@GoC and Digi - thanks for the congratulatory words. As it happens, Goblins are quite mortal at times. After my 3-0-1 at FNM, I went 1-3 at Games Day, losing to MBC, U/B control, and Naya Pod. It was demoralizing, but such is life.
I'll send a bio to you sometime tonight or tomorrow, GoC.
So no more swinging for 18 on turn 4, eh? Sorry to hear. Who won it? Really wish I could have gone.

Most of the regulars play at two stores on LI: Mark's Comics in Valley Stream and Comic Book Depot in (I think) Bellmore. I know a few other guys play in Manhattan, but I'll leave it to them to tell you where.
Also, congrats on the teaching gig (saw your thread in Special Occasions).

Comic Book Depot....I've been there. My parents live in Wantagh, and it's very close to them.
DMX and Fetts are regulars over at Depot... Mikey and I (and whoever tags along) usually drop by Depot after Mark's FNM is over.
Mark usually ends at 9:30-10 and holds drafts after; Depot's usually done around 11 - Depot usually is 5 rounds plus one round of top 8; Mark generally does 4 rounds.
Let us know if you ever swing through!

Not sure. I left when they were in the top 4. I know Jesse and both Leshens were left, and the Mule twosome were knocked out during top 8. Not sure of any other results, although I can definitely find out tonight.
Digi, would your envy change any if I told you most of the regulars were friends IRL prior to their joining the clan? We do a fair amount of "recruiting," as it were, from our friends who are also MTGS members. The clan's formation was even brewed offline, once a number of us realized we were all on MTGS already anyway. I had pitched the idea during my former clan's (the original [499] clan, if you care) "beginning of the end" time.
We do have people from outside that circle in the clan, but most of them only post occasionally, if at all... And a few of those guys managed to progress to IRL friends as well. But those are the exceptions to the rule, for the most part. It has been nice to meet your forum friends IRL. Oddly enough, we've hosted one of my former clan members - Sene - during a trip he took to NYC, and we'll soon be hosting rianalnn (hopefully) while he's here in NYC. I know I enjoy these kinds of things, maybe it's just me... I feel like MTGS's ambassador in NYC!
Another added benefit to all this is that we can deal with clan issues offline. I've joked with the mods that I'm the only clan leader who can deal with clan issues with smacks to the back of the head. Not that I've ever had to do it, but...
EDIT: I'd like some of those clan members who aren't in the circle to get in there and join the conversation... Especially our newest member, ljossberir, wherever he's been, since he lives on LI as well. But I can't force anyone...
@GoC, not at all. I have a few irl friends I have roped into joining [House Dimir], but they are only semi-active at best. The cordination of contests has to be much easier when you can see everyone. It would make cordination of anything smoother, really. I was really trying to organize a clan get together For the r2r prerelease, but some of us live acrossed the world from each other.

We actually don't participate in the Clan Contests. We did a few of them when we first started up, but interest in them waned mightily. It wasn't as easy organizing as you might think; people don't seem to want to hear about Internet forums all the time when you're chilling IRL, I've learned.
We do have "get-togethers," but usually they just happen, aside from our post-FNM hangouts. We used to organize a bit for prere's when they were run by our local big time TO, but with the local stores running them and lower prize payouts, that's fallen off some as well. We did organize a few things early on out of my house, but I don't have the time, money, or space at the moment to do so.
@GoC, I have learned that people don't want to talk about forum stuff in real life as well, haha! I do, but I guess I'm just a weirdo.
I think we have had this very same conversation before....
Who's ready for football?
Digi, I'm so ready, I got tix to the Giants-Jets preseason game! I'm very eager to see how this tag-team QB situation is sussing out for my Jets.
(Cue Samoht reminding me it won't matter because the Patriots are going to win the division anyway )
Also, congrats to our friend Etched Chester on becoming a moderator!
I don't have to remind you. Besides, it does actually matter if the Jets make the playoffs. They're one of the few teams with a defense that can check the Patriots.
I'm actually going to all of the important home NYJ games this year. Have tickets to Jets-Giants pre, Jets-Car pre(week 3 so starters), Jets-Hou, and Jets-Pats. I like a lot of what Tebow did in Denver, and hope that by the time I go to some of the later games he is starting over the Dirty One.

Seriously looking forward to that! It's my last weekend in town, so it would make for a fantastic sendoff
I am, as some of you may know, a huge Pittsburgh sports fan. I think our line has gotten better, and we've got a few new fresh faces we'll probably be seeing on d..
As for tickets, gosh. So expensive. I was only able to afford to go to one game this year, vs the eagles.
I'm excited.
Anyone play fantasy in here?
I don't have to remind you. Besides, it does actually matter if the Jets make the playoffs. They're one of the few teams with a defense that can check the Patriots.
This is true. Interesting that Belichick is looking at a possible annual random pickup in Plaxico...

Maybe in a year or two, after I get a few seasons of full-time football watching in. I've worked too many Sundays. A lot of people at my job play; I'll have to pay more attention.
Kind of happy that the Commander's Arsenal is just a renamed From the Vault, especially after seeing the price tag. Means I can avoid it.
Question now is, what is pimper, English Legends Sylvan Library or Foil? I'm inclined to say Legends.
Hahaha yeah, that price tag is epic, especially if there's a bunch of the new commanders from last year's decks amongst those 18(!) foils. Unless there are some epic foils in there, I'm definitely passing.
As far as what's more pimp... Probably the English Legends.

@GoC, I did horribly last year with the weight of the wife's pregnancy. It was super hard to keep up each week, even barely. It's fun, though.
I'd be down for a fantasy league. If you get one organized, let me know.
Also, very jealous that you got to go to the cross-state game. I'm a huge Eagles fan and my mom is a Steelers fan. One day I will get to attend one of those games.....Hell, at this point, I'd settle for attending any Eagles game. I've never seen an NFL game live. Only ever on TV.
So, they really made up for the **** FTV: (Last Three Years of) Legends with this ****ing pile. Rancid.
Ancient Tomb - good, glad I have four already.
Boseiju, Who Shelters All - meh.
Cephalid Coliseum - OK, but originally an uncommon.
Desert - ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME, WIZARDS??? DESERT??? It was in Time Spiral. There's an FNM version, too. Seriously, we needed to open our box and get me card that we can just ****ing burn because it's useless and widely available? ****ing ****, man.
Dryad Arbor - cute, but, another uncommon.
Forbidden Orchard - was this decided before they changed the rule about who owns those tokens? Mediocre at best.
Glacial Chasm - decent.
Grove of the Burn Willows - nice, but not "making up for FTV Legends" nice.
High Market - decent, EDH fodder really.
Maze of Ith - the one decent card.
Murmuring Bosk - cute, more EDH fodder
Shivan Gorge - only useful to me because I want one for my stack. But, seriously, this could have been Rishadan Port... or, ****, a lot of other, better lands. Polluted Delta... etc.
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth - only expensive because of EDH. Not all that excited. Actually already have a playset of foils.
Vesuva - Epic, five lands from Tme Spiral. Best of the five by far.
Windbrisk Heights - Seriously, again. Windbrisk Heights? Puke.
I can only hope that those missing cards are a joke... Wow, FTV: Realms of Time Spiral... WTF, this is not making up for last year's poop. I'm more convinced than ever that Sylvan Library is going to be the best card in that stupid Commander box.
Vile. Return to Ravnica better be sick.

So, Wizards said they made a mistake with FTV: Legends, and they'd make this the nuts. Epic fail.
I'm beginning to think they don't market to guys like me at all anymore - I'm invested in the game for a decade now, I've maintained a competitive collection, and I play as often as I have time for.
Apparently, this isn't good enough for Wizards. This set could have appealed to guys like me AND the players with less investment in the game. I guess I'm the chump for being a long-time customer.
I'm serious, if RTR is clownish, I might take some time out. That Golgari mechanic looks pathetic. Seriously, are they punishing GB because they gave it a deck-defining mechanic last time?
We CONSTANTLY pay for Wizards' mistakes. Whether it's the idiotic reserve list, the "no more mythic rare prerelease promos" rule, or Standard bannings, the final screw is always turned on the consumer...

Yes, dumb question. I, too, don't spew that information out on the interweb.
