...and now, on the umpteenth edition of MTGS Brigade. Evening, folks, and glad to see that we're still intact.
I'm not entirely into Winter, but I'm keeping up with what I can (aka Another, Nisemonogatari) each week as well as the old Fall shows (P4A, Guilty Crown, SnS Final). I'll probably post again shortly with some thoughts about where they're going as of now.
Update message going out shortly.
EDIT: Done. A lot harder than I thought, but two groups, since the list was quite extensive. Responses are appreciated in a week's time.
I picked up the latest Otaku USA yesterday and it had an ad for Break Blade. Since this coincided with a sighting of the BD I decided to check it out. It turned out to be much more of a Gundam throw down than I had anticipated, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The first three episodes were really bad and the last three were somewhat decent in spite of the cliches and errors. It LOOKS very nice... But that only gets you so far. Overall I'd give it 4/10. Anybody else seen this?
I know its been probably been read 1000 times or so, but I'm really getting into Hajime no Ippo.... Its a really interesting manga that I believed was first published in 1989 and is sitting somewhere close to 1000+ chapters (gut says 970 or so....)
Really recommend it if you like sports manga or underdog stories....
IIRC, the last thread was just the second one, so that makes this thread the third. Yeah, that means that the last thread had been up and running for more than three years. Crazy stuff, right?
Picked up Liar Game again. I feel so lucky that I still haven't read it to the ongoing arc, especially since my brother has already done that, and his suffering makes me hesitant about reading it. Well, it's still a great read, and I always have Kaiji in case I'd want more.
Hmm... *reads latest chapter of Naruto* better hurry up before Internet Fun-Time in the office ends and I end up hitting the company firewall or something...
*turns to everyone*
Ironically, there seems to be a trend of impending endings for a lot of manga I've been following. First Naruto, then Negima, and now... Air Gear. ._.
P.S.
Anyone read that last bit on this week's Savor the Flavor article? If you ask me, I've always wondered how I could make some homebrewed format that would let players themselves ping a bit of damage of their own (with a bit of self-equipping and aura enchanting on the side for cool effects).
I dislike the pace the new development promises to set.

Hey guys. I have actually been pretty busy the last couple of years, I'm finally settling into a new place (moved NY->AZ).
Although my anime watching dwindled a bit, I've also just gotten pretty picky. Waiting on Highschool of the Dead season 2 (I think...?), starting Stein's Gate (sometime this weekend), saw a few movies/series here and there. Nothing stands out that you guys haven't probably watched twice.
I've also been playing Magic and TF2, so you know how that is. Art the rest of the time.
I'll be checking in more as my schedule eases up and I start devouring it again. Breaking Bad/Mad Men/Game of Thrones took a good chunk of time away too...
Nice to see the clan is back alive. Peace everyone!
I dislike the pace the new development promises to set.
I actually agree. Anything that involves that psychotic emo bastard only promises ultimate shock, despair, all the while proving that he now solely exists to drag everyone into his misery.
meh the whole point of sasuke right now IS to hate him, his character has basically become the Mary Sue of Hate, the fact he is now gonna fight his 'immortal' brother is hilarious since it basically says his brother foresaw all this happening from the beginning.
Personally i want to Sasuke/Naruto fight to happen already, Naruto can give him a Hug-no-jutsu followed by some love-no-jutsu, everyone is happy sasuke kills himself due to emo nature, the series can end and we can forget there was ever an attempt at dragging things on with a DBZ type power up (whatever the hell they took from Orochimaru's 'hidden room')

It's like $35 extra for box, soundtrack, flimsy insert and a few postcards/stickers. And crunchyroll picked it up in 1080p so all my incentive to buy the BDs disappeared =|

Honestly look forward to that more than Nisemonogatari at this point (Shinbo's style is getting on my nerves again =.=).
Does this thread hold the chance to make me the Harem Devil? maybe not but highschool DxD certainly gives me the right to hope
I have never seen so many nipples in a show that's not 18+ O-o
It's getting quiet here again, this won't do, this won't do at all!
Finally, Mirai Nikki delivered my favorite Diary holder, 11th, and he sure doesn't disappoint. Too bad that he got overshadowed by Yuno once again. Well, he still has lots of time to do awesome stuff, not to mention the theme song of his that's going to be released next week.
I didn't realize how slow Nisemonogatari and PapaKiki are until I heard that the latter is still around the middle of Volume I, and the former spent seven episodes on a spirit that doesn't even exist. Well, at least it makes sense for Kaiki to do something like that, I love that guy. I'm kinda worried about PapaKiki, though: if you're going for an obvious second season, why not simply make your series two-cour long?
It's getting quiet here again, this won't do, this won't do at all!
Yes, it would seem that some sort of input from anyone seems due right now. However, I feel that my particular sort might not be well appreciated given that my focus is that of the mainstream.
On the other hand, recent (and surprisingly random) events have left me once more with a hankering for gothic lolitas, french maids, and Victorian-era fiction.
As such, I've been finishing off what I haven't read of Kaoru Mori's Emma. >_>;;
Hilariously enough i had just acquired and rewatched all 8 prior OVA's before checking my fav anime site and finding the new one up and ready to watch.
Highschool DxD is still awesome to me.
I started watching Another... i gotta admit i started watching because curiosity about the show made me look up the manga, i got hooked on the manga and then suddenly realized i needed to see the anime and was like OMG! this is like Grudge+Ring+Over 9000 worth of awesome/guro!
So yeah im now trying to figure out who is the extra one, im currently pinning it on the Substitute Teacher or on the Countermeasures girl, one thing though clearly the anime is gonna diverge a lot from the manga which is a sad thing already we can see a lot of subtle changes and extra stuff being added to the anime, also im sad the art style is not closer to the one in the manga, the anime looks too moe at times.

So many people are just getting into it because of the gore
The ratings on andib jumped after the umbrella scene even. I was kind of enjoying it already because of Takamori Natsumi in her role as Misaki Mei, and PA Works obnoxiously awesome production values. But I guess what it takes for some people is a violent death and buckets of blood and twitching ...

The original content is from a Novel so I'm not too worried =|
The thing making it moe is 99% Noizi Itou's character designs, but imo it still looks dark enough when it needs to.

Hey, lolis with katanas are awesome, and I don't care about their home country.
I'm enjoying the mystery aspect, but the gore just makes it over-the-top and spectacular. I had such a huge grin on my face after the beginning of episode 7; it was amazing. Like Higurashi, except I'm enjoying it more.
Im liking Symphogear actually, not because of the patchwork lore or because of the interactions between hibiki and the crew... no... im liking it because it basically reminds me of sailormoon.
Edit: Talking about memories Area no Kishi reminds me of tsubasa but without the DBZ aspects, so basically i more shounen Giant Killing.

Gyo - Just watched it a couple of days ago. It seems like the manga is more awesome, but it was still pretty good, if just for the land sharks. Friggin' land sharks, man. Watching the OVA, it felt like they tried to compress too much story into too little space, resulting in some scenes - like the carnival - feeling forced and out of place. I give it a 7/10.
Anybody else have comments on these? I'm still watching Another, but it seems like a lot of movies and OVAs have been coming out recently. I've been spending more time with those than with airing series.
Anyways, I've considered reading up/returning to the following series in light of my current reads on the verge of ending.
Ao no Exorcist
The story is catchy, but it's monthly so the going is sloooooow.
No action based manga should be monthly, you just end up waiting 28 days for 5 minutes of reading.
The lowdown: It's a 2 hour movie based on a war-romance light novel by Koroko Inumura. Madhouse and TMS did the animation. It's set in an alternate world that's an eclectic mix of past and future - fighter planes evoking a 1950s feel exist alongside electrolytic fuel cells that run on sea water.
The good: I was skeptical of the movie for the first twenty minutes or so. The strength of a romance story like this (a male and female lead on a long journey together) absolutely comes down to the successful development of the characters. Thankfully, I was not disappointed; there is plenty here to like. The female lead seems stereotypically helpless when we begin our journey, but - surprise - character development actually begins to happen once she's left familiar surroundings behind. She calls out the male lead for assuming she can't do things. She gets drunk - on purpose. Kudos to the writer for creating a strong female lead to fill a role that could so easily have been just another cliche damsel in distress. Likewise, the male character is relatable, and forced to deal with personal moral quandries other than which beer to swig before riding off into the sunset. The strong characters are what make this film work.
The not quite as good: The planes look great for what they are... and of course, what they are is CGI. If you don't mind CGI, it's great. I've never been a fan of it, so the animation lost a few points from me there. All told, though, it's a beautiful show. Another thing that I would have liked to see is more development of the backstory for the setting. We know the main character belongs to a racial group that is discriminated against, but the cause is not made especially clear, especially given that there aren't really any distinguishable visual cues for the viewer. I would have liked to learn more about the world, the technology, and the history of events that led up to the situation the movie presents.

I see. Well it can be worth the wait for me. I tend to be too busy to notice how much time passes by.
Well that pic sure looks pretty. Coincidentally enough, I just finished watching Origin: Spirits of the Past. It's been a while since I watched any anime movies before that. I may not like sci-fi but I certainly could use another addition to my anime movielist right about now (It's still pretty small and mostly dominated by either Studio Ghibli or movie spinoffs.)
P.S.
I've finally managed to watch all the recent episodes of the new Black Rock Shooter anime. Thank GOD! TwT
