To be fair, R_E did it for years and years, with no sense of remorse. Matignon showed the godbook to a single person that he thought that he could trust. His was an honest mistake, R_E's was a continual effort to spit in WOTC's face.
I'm not saying that their action against him was appropriate(though he also should have expected it to happen eventually, as I said then), but the circumstances really aren't the same.
I guess since he was the only face of leaked information they decided to go after him, probably as harshly as they could think so as to send a message.
It does sound like this new guy just got a slap on the wrist, but then I don't know how valuable he is to WOTC.
For some reason I like that robot song in the credits of Portal 2. Maybe I should play that game since my roommate has it.
Roomate's friend came over to watch some TV, "Dr. Who." Apparently he watched for 18 hours strait. Now thats stamina....
I poked my head in some discussions and debates outside of clans (another vegetarian one...for some reason I like those), first time in years...now I remember why I avoided them. I tend to get snarky and sarcastic at times....as a moderator that's probably a bad thing. On the bright side I figured out that most folks don't read an entire discussion...so I can play both sides of the argument at different points in the discussion and nobodies the wiser.
I did talk to Blod about that the other day...clear up some stuff on veganism. I told him I eat mostly Ramen with Subway being the largest infusion of vegetables. Apparently he has previous conversations neatly categorized and easily retrievable...cause his response was a quote from me in Feb 2010...where I told him I eat mostly ramen with some subway. At least I'm consistent?
I accepted that three month job for the summer. I was astonished that it provided some benefits that I'm not very familiar with. Something called overtime. Seriously, most my jobs didn't have that, I mean how do you figure overtime when I'm camping in the field weeks at a time? I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the idea of overtime associated with field work. I mean we're out there until the job gets done. Like when I was prescribed burning 12+ hours a day. Thats the nature of the job. If you start worrying about overtime then you start restricting my time in the field which restricts my ability to get the job done. However, if it doesn't restrict my ability to do my job I can definitely see some advantages to it.
Cheers,

Edit: Hmmm....I just got nostalgic and skimmed a few of our threads back in 2005. Remarkable how things change over time. Back then I was struggling with debt and complaining about the difficulty of finding jobs.
Let me ask a question to ya'll....was there ever a point in my life that I didn't complain about debt and job searches?

In my mind I see the whole "godbook" issue like this...
The release of the godbook was done by someone who brings a lot of $$$ to Wizards. He was player of the year and widely regarded as an overall "niceguy". While he signed a NDA, he asked a friend of his for some advice and "made a one-time mistake". As a result the list was leaked. Why non of this can be proven as a one-time offense I can see Nick's point here.
R_E made it point of being the "one with all the info" on THE rumor site for MTG. He was the goto guy. He got ahold of future-future information and released it to the public. He knew what he was doing...don't be fooled that he didn't. I'm sure he thought..."Well, these might be real so I'll post them. What can they do, right?" Well, he found out they were real and paid the consequences.
New Phyrexia was going to be released in a month. The set was completed and ready for distribution.
I think the bigger deal is that this pro got the list of cards months in advance. I'm pretty sure he wasn't the first and only pro to get this info. I shines a bad light on Wizards that they provide players with this information.
That's the bigger issue to me.

I'm itchin for the new crack aboot to be released onto the streets.
It's all black and gooey. Dripping with the poison I've been looking for for years!
On that track...I think that the Phyrexia mana is going to help bring some new people to Legacy...but not for long. I also believe it's going to melt the color pie when it comes to deck building. So much splash...but better than Shards block!
sorry...lost track there....
As for R_E...he got a raw deal, I truly believe that. But he wasn't real in a sense that the Guillume's are real people. Seen by many at events worldwide. It isn't fair....but they have to keep everyone happy.

Do you have a buffer to hold you over, or are you sailing into dire straits earlier rather than later?
Hard times world round, good luck ria.
Nice renders by the way. Good stuff.
How is Daron doing nowadays anyway? I lost track of him when he removed himself from facebook. Last I heard he seemed to be getting better from the downward spiral he was stuck in. A little more optimistic with the world and less caustic to friends. Still obsessed with gold though, posting that every time it had record highs (Which happened again last week).
I'm tempted with going to this prerelease. I need a break from reality...if thats what you call this. Heh, I'm not sure what that is anymore....I mean with respect to social norms and expectations. Been feeling my mind slipping, breaking down for no reason, getting antsy and angsty as well. I need to get out, change of venue, change of scene. Soon...very soon...but until then I think it couldn't hurt to enjoy an evening of magic. Haven't played since the last prerelease but it was fun then. Sets looking good.

Love to get a box/go to this pre-release/play magical cards but I am so broke now. . . & so very glad there are folks out there who want me to paint for them. Dt, if you go, get me a PR card! I still want that PR Glissa, am I remembering that right? She was a promo?
numbers are due for the clan contest soon :tumbleweed:
I'm seriously broke. I put the last $21 in the gas tank and will get 3 trips to and from work with that. That means....one trip to work today, one trip home tonight and one more trip to work tomorrow. I get paid on Friday, but unless I get some cash today, I'm not making it here again. Catching up on back bills from when I was unemployed 2 years ago is a long and agonizing process. It took 4 months to fall seriously behind and more than 2 years to get back ontrack. Something isn't right in the math there.
What's the talk about numbers and soforth? I thought the contest was over!?!

People don't realize it much, but, being employeed and not getting anywhere is much more difficult than being unemployed. When you're unemployed, ultimately, you're still just sitting around your house doing whatever you feel like doing(you obviously don't spend all day every day looking for work). When you're working 40-50 hours/week every week and just managing to pay bills, it is extremely demoralizing. Especially if you were previously unemployed, and owe money to ☺☺☺☺ing everyone, and constantly have to put them off/give them less than you planned/etc etc. Sometimes it just seems like existence in general is miserable.

Eh, just tell your relatives you love them, and anyone who isn't flippantly materialistic and petty should understand. Holidays aren't about presents.
There was a general federal election up here in Canadastan today. Conservative majority for the next four years, after 4 of a conservative minority. God damn it Canada... our politics are turning american. The canadian equivelant to the democrats collapsed because the Conservative party has been running non-stop attack ads for years, and now the left-wing NDP is the opposition.
At least the Green Party got a seat, and the Quebec seperatist party is nearly dead...
I don't like living paycheck to paycheck. So I tend to pay minimums on bills so I can build up a surplus to hold my own when I'm unemployed. Never get ahead that way...just minimums while wracking up more debt. I've consoled myself that as long as I break even then everything's good. Specially since I have it easy, just taking care of myself so to speak. I can't imagine the stress involved if I had to take care of a family. I have it easy because if i have to go camping for a bit I can just make a trip of it, have fun with it, ignore the necessity of it and just enjoy myself. I don't think you could do that very easily with a family.
Na, we're supposed to vote. Dt is the only person to actually do the numbers, though.
Numbers that don't matter when things are averaged. Voting is due tomorrow. I'm changing my vote slightly since ob nixis had some render problems and I should have nicked them for that.

Edit: Talore, are the Canadian republican and democrats similar to America's? Are they as divided as our or are there more compromises and stuff?
At the moment it seems the republicans are dedicating everything to make Obama fail....which was the rhetoric used by them from the beginning of his election.

Before this election, we had 4 major political parties. One was just from quebec, and their platform was "separate quebec from canada". Other than that they were pretty socialist. They went from 54 seats to 3-4.
We have the Conservative party, which used to be two right-of-centre parties that merged because they were splitting the right vote. They won. It's a majority too so they can push through all their extreme policies. I can't wait to see what they do with health care! Boo. They hate democracy etc. They went from ~130 seats to ~160
We have the Liberal party, which is left-centre. They have had the most time ruling the country (I think). They fell hard, going from about 100 seats to 35
And we have the NDP. They are leftists. They have the most likable leader, and this is not just my opinion, he polls the highest nationally as a leader. It has never had more than about 10% of the seats in the house of commons and today they about tripled that; most of the gain was from the Bloc.
It's been 3 days since he was killed and people are starting to clammer around for proof. I don't care one way or another if they release the pictures of his dead corpse. Of course I would look it them...but I feel like he's been killed. The thing is....I don't feel like he was as big a factor as he was 10 years ago. I do feel the bigger item that we got from all this are the computers and files they collected from the compound.
How does everyone else feel?

I feel that Obama is a secret kenyan muslim...from Kenya. Trump was getting close, so in a panic Obama tried mis-direction by starting a war in Libya. But we are already desensitized by being entrenched in two wars so it didn't work. Obama then tried his hand in presenting a long form birth certificate, but it was so realistic as to be an obvious forgery. Finally, in a desperate move, Obama mis-directed the entire world as he fabricated the death of Osama bin Laden. Where's the proof Obama? The body? Like anyone will believe DNA evidence. You see JJ....it was a plot, mis-direction within mis-direction, to twist reality. Wont work....we know the truth.
So basically with the four votes it looks like the overall standing from us is:
I adjusted the ranking to better reflect that. If there are no additional inputs from the rest of the clan, I recommend submitting this before tonight's deadline.
Ramirez of the Deep (24) Ob Nixilis, the Rekindled (20) Doran, The Surveyor (22) Niv Mizzet the Prodigal 21 Braids, Exiled in Insanity (20) Volrath, Returned (18)
Volrath, Returned (18)
Power level: Too High (6). The first ability alone is a game breaker with huge card advantage. Sure there’s the drawback of discarding, but black thrives in that. I would actually rather see the first and second ability reversed. The ultimate is powerful but fair, especially considering that you probably had to draw six cards and take six damage for that.
Creativity:
Planeswalker Design (3): Very different from the original legend, but the story explains this well. I feel the first ability is too strong, but other than that the card is well made.
Story Design: Good story (4). I like volrath and a revival into a new envincar is pretty cool.
Legend Choice: Good choice (5).
Niv Mizzet the Prodigal 21
Power level: High (9). I’m thinking that overall this planeswalker might be a bit too powerful. Still, if you untapped with niv mizzet the legend you had a serious advantage, so I suppose you’d expect the planeswalker to be more powerful.
Creativity:
Planeswalker Design (4): The first ability is classic Izzet and fits Niv Mizzet decently. Not sure the second and third abilities are as closely in sync with that theme, but it’s not far off.
Story Design: Good story(4). I liked the idea of Niv Mizzet going against the Nephilim in battle.
Legend Choice: (4) Well for an Izzet style choice I suppose this one basically picks itself.
Ob Nixilis, the Rekindled (20)
Power level: Medium (8). First ability is a bit weak, but not horrible. The second ability gives some good acceleration, but is still underpowered as a -2. The ultimate is game breaking, but since it normally takes 4 turns to go off I don’t see it as broken.
Creativity:
Planeswalker Design: (3) The story is needed to understand how a Black Legend Demon was a Druidish planeswalker. The only real connection to your legend is the first ability, but the story ties things in decently.
I took into consideration that they didn’t have the loyalty number on the render, no set symbol, and no rarity color.
Story Design: (4) Oh thank the gods that this was a short story. *cough* I mean… Interesting story. Since it hints at a feeling of corruption I suppose this takes place before he becomes Ob Nixilis, the fallen.
Legend Choice: (5) Odd choice and perhaps symbolic acknowledgement that Mono-blue isn’t the way to go? Choosing a Black legend and making it into a loosely connected Red/Green planeswalker. Quite telling.
Doran, The Surveyor (22)
Power level: High, Perhaps too High (9). Overall this card is restricted to a specific type of deck. However in that deck it is an overwhelming and can break opponents down.
Creativity:
Planeswalker Design (4): My biggest criticism of this card is that I don’t know what any of the abilities have to do with Doran the Legend. Each ability is color relative and good in its own right, but Doran was a 0/5 that made everything deal damage with toughness instead of power, a card that worked very well with other treefolk. How the design concept went from that to search for forest, make a treefolk, kill any non-land, and a change life total ultimatum is difficult for me to understand.
Story Design (4): Good story, Interesting take on Doran’s personality and struggles with the blight.
Legend Choice (4): Good pick.
Ramirez of the Deep (24)
Power level: High, but not broken (9). Terminate on a stick is a bit much, but only cause it doesn’t strike me as a black/blue ability. Still, black does kill creatures and at 2UBB it is not over the top. I can see this as being a very fun card that many people would play casually.
Planeswalker Design: (5) Very well designed. The first and second abilities complement each other to deal with most threats while the third ability brings in a monstrosity of its own to fight. Perhaps the best part of this design is that it fits perfectly with the story. A skilled fighter killing opponents, a pirate hording riches, and a tortures soul creating abominations for nefarious purposes.
Story Design: (5) A very very detailed account of the creation of this pirate king. For the most part well written and informative.
Legend Choice: (5) Risky choice since it depended a lot on creative ability to make work. Good work.
Braids, Exiled in Insanity (20)
First I’m not sure this submission is legal. Black Braids isn’t on the EDH list. Blue Braids is, but this planeswalker has nothing to do with the blue braids.
Power level: low (7). She’s simply not playable in most situations. First ability is really dependant on other people’s actions and how well you’ve designed the deck around her. Second ability is meh, opponents will only discard when it suits them. The third ability can be dangerous, but very dependant. In the right situation she can be a game breaker, but I’m not sure how often that would happen. Overall restrictive game play, useless early game, mid-late game limited potential.
Creativity:
Planeswalker Design (4): Fun. The card fits the name. She’s a very counter intuitive card that can build up loyalty fast for repeatable damage. She’s also less likely to be targeted since she seems useless until fatal…like your average insane person. I don’t like the design of the second ability. It fits the insanity, but is overall useless.
Story Design (5): Chaotic. I’ve no idea what the story has to do with braids getting a spark. But, perhaps, that was the intention. The insanity involved in the story is well written and entertaining. Good read.
Legend Choice: (4) If Black Braids is legal then good choice. If not and this is designed after Blue Braids, well I don’t see the resemblance.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

Are you trying a 'new' font & font color, or does my memory fail me? I am not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic with your debt management strategy. Either way, here is a suggestion: take that surplus you have saved up and invest it in Thruns. Right now he retails at most online stores for $7, and will be jumping soon with the prevalence of Beast Within over the next few months.
rianalnn, I like your Alice in Wonderland. Do you use sponges?
rianalnn, I like your Alice in Wonderland. Do you use sponges?
Thanks again. It was a relief to make after squinting at little cards for a year. re: spongy – I don't usually, if I do it's just to soak up & throw paint in splatter arcs. Mainly Alice was done with my fingers, which is my usual MO. I like to get messy

Investing in a tanking card doesn't seem like a good idea at all. Besides, we have no idea what Innistrad will bring, so speculating at this early point is pretty pointless. Don't get me wrong, Thrun is awesome and I have a Japanese copy sitting around for when I make him an EDH general, but there's no reason to assume he'll skyrocket in price, especially if the Titans come back in M12.
If you want to make money in MTG, invest in dual lands or foil EDH staples. I bought a foil Bribery for 15$, and a month later they were going for 40+ on Ebay.
I'm glad he's dead. I know the conspiracy theorists always need to spike their Kool-Aid with the flavor of the month conspiracy, but there is absolutely no chance that Osama is still alive.
Are you trying a 'new' font & font color, or does my memory fail me? I am not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic with your debt management strategy.
I'm trying out a new font. So far I'm not the biggest fan of it though. I think its a little hard to read. I'll probably change it to something else later.
My debt management strategy changes depending on my incoming finances. Most of the time it is geared towards minimum payments and saving for inevitable occupational hiatuses. If I have sufficient funds coming in, which in my life hasn't happened very often, my strategy changes to paying the premium down on my credit cards as much as possible...and having more steak dinners.
2011 is not going to be easy. Not financially depressed mind you, more interesting financial tactics. I'll be unemployed by August, I need to make sure my cost of living is minimal enough to allow for the savings to carry over till the 2012 summer season. Most likely I wont have any large influx of funds till at least then.
As for investing in magic cards. I'm not too keen on that. Though I do have a few original duels that I think will stay decent in price, and I'm always looking out for more. I've not kept track of my other cards though and am never really good in building up a folder of money cards for investment.
I do have a play set timespirals that I just discovered have gone up in price. Also have a play set of tarmagoyf that haven't been properly used. Basically they are in my elf warrior deck, so I usually sideboard them out.
Is there a list out there of money cards that are almost guaranteed to always go up? Like those original duels?

Dt, if you go, get me a PR card! I still want that PR Glissa, am I remembering that right? She was a promo?
I'll see what I can do....but I need your address. You did move recently.
I did go to the prerelease....discovered that I still suck at magic. My sealed had some decent stuff, but mostly in the Red/Black which is somewhat preferred. It wasn't an overly powerful deck. I even left out some solid cards like Ogre Menial, Razor Swine, and Grafted Exoskeleton because of an aversion to infect that in hindsight was overly stupid. Still, I had a fair assortment of critters and removal with bombs being Etched Champion, Praetor's grasp, and hoard-smelter Dragon.
Round 1:
Game 1: 20 turns in and the strongest critter between the two of us ever cast throughout the game was a 2/2. Yeah, it was that lame. Finally he topdecks a Swamp and plays Phyrexian Obliterator. I had Artilerize in my hand, but in our petty exchanges I had run out of critters and artifacts at that point. So, I died.
Game 2: He kept a 1 swamp hand. I kept a hand with two land and loads of high cost critters. I drew land...he didn't. Around turn 10 I victorious destruction'ed his only land...with his permission...before finally being able to finish him off.
Game 3: Got my Dragon out turn 5. He had no responses, I even played it wrong because I didn't realize it got +x/+o for the artifacts destroyed. But it was enough to win.
Round 2:
Played against some Green/Blue/White deck. Some good removal, first game lasted forever and when I finally pulled off the victory we only had about ten minutes left. He complained constantly though, even criticized that I table shuffled twice between games. In the end I won 2-0.
Round 3:
Game 1 I was mana-screwed and got crushed hard. Game two he hit his curve something aweful, we're talking turn 2,3,4 hit a decent flier each. I somehow had the removal to deal with that and was able to pull off winning that and the next match.
Round 4:
Game 1: So I'm playing against a B/W deck. I kept a hand with 5 land and a praetor's grasp. I was worried, specially when I kept drawing land, but turn 3 I grasped and found a Sheoldred, Whispering One. Eventually I was able to cast it, and though my opponent was able to keep it tapped and eventually kill it, it did cost him four cards. That swing was enough for me to forge through my mana pocket for the win.
Game 2: I kept another hand of a lot of land. And kept drawing indefinitely. Eventually he casts a mindslaver and sacks it...but the joke was on him because I still has four land in my hand...except he top decks Caress of Phyrexia and casts it on himself. My next few draws were land and he finishes me off soon after.
Round 5:
Mirror Match. I mean right down to the Hoard-Smelter Dragon.
First game we just traded back and fourth, dishing damage and whittling at each other. Finally he knocks me down to 5 and Artilerizes me to the face.
Game 2 I get out my dragon. He smelters it and we continue to trade damage. I made a play mistake early by smeltering his wall, hoping to get more damage in early. I praetor's gasp his dragon and play it. His next attack comes in hard but I can block all except a silly mana myr. knocks me down to 5 life. I ask if he has Artilerize...he does...game.
So I went 3-2....bah....barely got into the to six where the prize payout was, and only cause of tie breakers. I did win three packs, netting me a Batterskull and Urabrask the Hidden and soul conduit. So not the worst and fun.
I also went to a draft. Put together what I thought was a good Green/White splash Blue infect deck. I got slaughtered hard there. Last opponent ran a very aggressive mirran deck that I played a dozen times for fun and won once.
Overall good night.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

Thats the nature of the job. If you start worrying about overtime then you start restricting my time in the field which restricts my ability to get the job done. However, if it doesn't restrict my ability to do my job I can definitely see some advantages to it.

That's the bigger issue to me.
re: the Real Issue; I've said as much everywhere I post, but people have short memories & WotC sells tasty hot crack

Here's an abstract I picked at for the last three months.
What's the talk about numbers and soforth? I thought the contest was over!?!
I hate living paycheck to paycheck. . . especially when there's no paycheck
Living paycheck to paycheck is the american dream! the only issue with that is that Halmark and society put extra little things in the way each freakin' month. Birthdays, mother's day, valentines day, easter, cinco de mayo, flag day....WTF!?!?
Eh, just tell your relatives you love them, and anyone who isn't flippantly materialistic and petty should understand. Holidays aren't about presents.
There was a general federal election up here in Canadastan today. Conservative majority for the next four years, after 4 of a conservative minority. God damn it Canada... our politics are turning american. The canadian equivelant to the democrats collapsed because the Conservative party has been running non-stop attack ads for years, and now the left-wing NDP is the opposition.
At least the Green Party got a seat, and the Quebec seperatist party is nearly dead...
Numbers that don't matter when things are averaged. Voting is due tomorrow. I'm changing my vote slightly since ob nixis had some render problems and I should have nicked them for that.
me:
1: Dimir
2: Crafters
3: Izzet
Ria:
1: Dimir
2: Crafters
3: Izzet
Aqua:
1: Crafters
2: Dimir
3: Izzet
Cyan:
1: Izzet
2: Dimir
3: Crafters
I think this is it so far. Does that list look right and does anyone want to change their stance? Anyone else going to chime in?
Cheers,
Daggertooth
Edit: Talore, are the Canadian republican and democrats similar to America's? Are they as divided as our or are there more compromises and stuff?
At the moment it seems the republicans are dedicating everything to make Obama fail....which was the rhetoric used by them from the beginning of his election.

from GG's Pol-thread, re: Canuck Politic;
1: Dimir (1,1,2,2)
2: Crafters (1,2,2,3)
3: Izzet (1,3,3,3)
I adjusted the ranking to better reflect that. If there are no additional inputs from the rest of the clan, I recommend submitting this before tonight's deadline.
Ramirez of the Deep (24)
Ob Nixilis, the Rekindled (20)
Doran, The Surveyor (22)
Niv Mizzet the Prodigal 21
Braids, Exiled in Insanity (20)
Volrath, Returned (18)
Cheers,
Daggertooth

Great job on your Azusa planeswalker render; very professional-looking.
P.S. I love your thread title.
Yes Xanth, I called you out on your most un-mono Blue entry. Laughed all the way to the bank on that one.
Game 3: I came out strong, but turn 7 he casts Sheoldred, Whispering One and I couldn't compete.
Cheers,
Daggertooth
