Hello Clan Members and welcome to this year's second clan contest. This will be a card design contest. Here is an outline of the rules:
- Clans will have 1 week to sign up in the sign up thread (right here.) Please have your clan representative, or a proxy if the case may be, simply sign up in this thread. Your representative will also be the one posting submissions and judgings.
- For each round, the participating clans will be divided into two groups. Each clan will still be working on individual submissions. The groups will just determine what design challenge you receive each round.
- For each design round, each group will have a different task. At the end of each round, members from group A will grade group B's submissions, and vice versa (I am providing a rubric to follow to make grading pretty easy.) Based on their grades, each clan will present its top three picks (1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place for the round.)
- If providing a render, please refer to this post for forum guidelines regarding proper artist credits.
- Every 1st place ranking will receive a clan 3 points, every 2nd place ranking will receive a clan 2 points, and every 3rd place ranking will receive a clan 1 point. In addition, completing the rubric for each clan in the group you are judging and posting a top 3 will receive your clan 2 points. This is used as an incentive to get the clans actively grading each others submissions and providing feedback rather than just simply giving a top 3. Failing to post a top 3 will lose your clan 1 point.
- One round will last about 6 days, between designing and grading. 4 days for designing/submitting cards and 2 days for grading. Once the deadline for submitting a card has been reached, a clan may not submit a late entry for that round unless less than 5 entries have been submitted. Late entries will receive a -1 point penalty for each 24h period it is late. We will be going by time stamps, so be aware of this if you feel you need to edit your submission.
- If your clan misses a round for whatever reason, you are still allowed to grade the other team's submissions and post a top 3 to receive that 2 point incentive.
- After three rounds (roughly 18 days,) we'll be cutting to the two teams from each group with the highest point total for a semi-final match up (same format, same time limit.) The winners of that will be in the final match, ultimately determining the winner.
Design (/10): What goes into the initialization of the card. Suggested areas to judge: Elegance - Does it say a lot in a few words? Does the design just 'click' with the flavor? Creativity - Does it present an old mechanic with a wonderful new twist? Does it make you slam the table and shout "Damn! Why didn't I think of that?" Does it conform with the current color pie (not necessarily an uncreative thing)? Potential - Would this card be well-received by its target demographic (Timmy, Johnny, Spike?) Would you want to see this card in the [insert rarity] slot of a booster pack? Would this be a memorable card?
Development (/10): The connecting process between the concept and the final product. Suggested areas to judge: Viability - Does it work at all? Would it bend any current rules? Would it make baby Gottlieb cry? Balance - Would it break any format? Or a limited format of an imaginary block with that theme? Higher rarities would obviously impact constructed more so than limited, but if a card blatantly breaks a limited format, point it out. Usually Standard is the constructed format to be most considered, but again, if a card obviously breaks Extended/Legacy/Vintage, point it out. Creative Writing - I'm lumping Creative development here as well. Flavor text and name go under here.
Polish (/5): Deductions for spelling/grammar mistakes/incorrect wording, anything that doesn't fit into Design or Development. Also, there will be two bonus criteria per challenge. If they meet the bonus requirement(s), they get the point(s). If they don't, they don't.
Total /25
there are any other questions, please feel free to ask them or message me or whatever. Other than that, please sign up and get your clan excited! Good luck everyone!
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
Time to make up for last round... I'll ensure every clan member has the required software/information to place our entry, no last minute IT issues will keep us out this time...
Greetings Clan members! Don't forget to keep in mind the rules. Feel free to reference them frequently--they are there to help you!
Now, if you are ready for round 1, continue on.
Hundreds of years have passed since Kamahl reigned in the Pit. Ixidor's assault on the Cabal is little more than a distant memory, mostly just a tale recounted to entertain the children of Otaria. Even the Great Mending of Dominaria has been forgotten.
Pit fights are still quite popular, though the number of champions have declined over the years, so the current fighters are always eager to to take on fresh meat. Baru himself, an actual descendant of the great Kamahl, sends out a personal challenge to encourage new challengers to enter the pit fights.
And here you all are, standing at the gates of the coliseum, answering his call. What destiny awaits you in the Pit? Fortune? Glory? Death? It is yet unknown, but now is the time to take the first step in making a name for yourself.
This first challenge is for both groups:
Design a Legendary Creature card that would hail from your clan. This will sort of be your avatar throughout this competition. Group 1 bonus criteria: - Has a converted mana cost of 4 or less.
- Has an activated ability. Group 2 bonus criteria: - Has a converted mana cost of 4 or more.
- Has a triggered ability.
You have 4 days to design and submit your card, starting at the time stamp of this post. Following that, you will have 2 daysto review the other team submissions and post your critiques (feel free to split those up between other clan members so one person isn't completely swamped.) But remember, this thread is reserved for representatives only.
Also, if you have any questions or wish to discuss this contest, please post that in the Clan Council thread so as not to clutter this thread up (makes it easier when reviewing cards and what not.)

Apologies for posting here but there's been some infighting in my clan and I've gotten rid of ZDS and taken his place the clan rep is missing and we don't want to miss the deadline.
