I hate to bring down the Coffeehouse yet again with bad news, but I have more of it.
I guess it's not really news, as I suspected all along, but now that I'm seeing some real numbers on how much money it can take to start hormone replacement . . . I think it's not really possible for me. At least not anywhere in the near future, which is incredibly disappointing. Regular therapy for months with a gender identity specialist, alongside the hormone supplements themselves, then regular liver and endocrine tests, and more therapy visits - it just sounds like more than I can afford on my income.
I'd gladly spend every penny of my expendable income if that could make it work, but I'm not sure that'd even be enough. I'm trying to find out more right now, but at the moment it doesn't look hopeful.
Just had to get that of my chest.

PMS? I deal with that more than usual--I live with my mom and have only two sisters. I think it's helped me cope
Good--*checks clock*--erm, noon! I slept well! How it goes, Coffeebeans?
Mother, grandmother, and three sisters, not to mention most of my cousins are female. This, and the fact that all of them have female friends... Eek. I'd be, to quote Jeff Foxworthy, in an Estrogen Ocean, save for the fact that one's past Menopause and one's probably heading in. And that two of those three girls are pre-puberty, thank you Jesus.
Spoilered so people who don't care don't have to read it.
A little background: this is set after the City of the Spider Queen adventure, with the "main" character (yeah, there is one, sort of) being a Chosen of Kiaranselee. He traveled with a good-aligned party during CotSQ, by telling them he would show them to a minor artifact known as the Claw of the Revenancer. (geh, I hate that thing -_-) At the conclusion of that, when the party had to fight Irae (one party member died and got smacked with her Curse of the Revenancer ability; Yathrinshee= Tech), it was Necrotius who prevailed, especially after Irae tried to cast Miracle and got slapped down in favor of Necrotius. He rushed her dead body and grabbed the Claw, and his insane goddess was overly pleased with him- granting him Chosen status and turning him into a lich. Best line: "I TOLD you I'd show it to you!!" to the rest of the party.
Well, in the intervening three years since, he's been rebuilding the church, since one of his former party members used a Wish to blow the Undying Temple into nothing.
A group of dark elves have learned the secret of Elven High Magic from a few ancestral kiira gems, and they cast a spell designed to wipe the memory of Kiaranselee from the minds of all her worshippers. This comes from a novel. In the nivel, it was entirely successful. Here's where I go and modify stuff. I gave every worshipper of Kiaranselee with 15+ HD a Will save. Necrotius auto-passed. Now, his goddess has charged him with getting revenge against those who tried to erase her from existence (in the Realms, a god's power is directly proportionate to the number of worshippers he or she has) so she gave him a list of "People to Kill". He's NE, so he's all for it.
In comes the other two characters, one of which is a half-drow half moon elf ex-cleric of Vhaeraun, now worships Eilistraee. The other is a drow female assassin charged with finding said ex-cleric and returning him to his former group...though she saw him in combat and decided that "screw THAT, they don't PAY me enough". (He's two-weapon in a different way; he wields double weapons in each hand. Yes, there's a feat for that.)
The ex-cleric is charged with watching Necrotius by his church. Considering recent events outlined in the Lady Penitent series (which I took and ran with; I HAD to, it felt like) he is allowed to blend his arts of stealth with the arts of the sword dancer...and is actually pretty good at it, too.
Well, on Necrotius's list is a host of spellcasters. Included on this list is the caster who Wished away the Undying Temple. The one he went after last night is in Sshamath- the head of the College of Divination.
Diviners are nasty. VERY nasty. They see you coming two weeks before you come.
So he allowed himself to be "ambushed". The diviner steps from his carriage, smiling.
Necrotius throws Ray of Stupidity. Diviner smiles bigger and counters it. Oh, wait...he does have that one archmage level, Master of Counterspelling...
Ouchies.
Necrotius then tries an Energy Drain. Good thing liches are immune, huh, because it went sailing back at him.
Well, a rule was bent. The yathrinshee class states you have to be female. Well, I figure if you're in favor with your goddess enough to be Chosen, then you can damned well take the class. He's a yathrinshee himself (ewwww lichloved). He goes and uses his Keening ability. Acts like Wail of the Banshee. Ouchies.
Female assassin has to roll a natural 20 to pass. Fails. Epic reroll. Fails again.
Rogue/cleric is in the wagon, undetectable to anything short of metafaculty thanks to a third eye conceal. He's currently looking for spare change, since he's done his damnedest to act likea cold-blooded killer and has never actually killed any of those he claimed to. Keening has a 30ft radius, centered on the caster. It's freaking supernatural to boot. Rogue/cleric looks to see if he remembered to Death Ward himself. Nope.
Then he remembers that he was on the far side of the wagon. I gave percentage that he'd be just outside the radius. 25%. I roll...
18%.
My dice love my PCs. I swear it.
Diviner burns Moment of Prescience to gain +25 to his Fort save and passes.
He goes, use death touch ability (special ability granted by Chosen template). I roll...18, total of 38. DC was...37.
We had to stop the combat there, with one PC now zombified (Curse of the Revenancer) and one thankful that apprently his goddess smiled on him...and the diviner still breathing.
It's interesting, and I like running that world when my PCs actually roleplay.
Man, I'd LOVE to play in that session. That's the type of thing you bring stories from.

Well im using the price list from Starcitygames where sieze is at $24.75 a piece and blasts are $8.10 and admirers/profane are $5.75/$5.55 respectively i know this puts me down like $2.80 but i dont really mind that. i think i could always add a little something else but i dont want to be too demanding the guy is my friend after all and part of my magic play group.
I honestly have no use for the seize (only have one where as my friend already owns two), so i was trying to get the best possible trade which benefits both him and me (i want two more blasts to finish the set and the profane puts me in the 3 range which my deck kinda needs).
Only real concern i got is the price shift worlds is gonna bring down in the next couple of weeks.

If you go by ebay value (and adjusting for the differential in prices between the two sites) you're actually losing about 4 bucks on the deal. Magictraders has the Ca$h$eize going for about 18 while the Psi Blasts are 5.75 and the Profane is at 4 exactly (total recieved around 15).
Edit: Went by the weekly guide there.
If you think that's best for you I'd probably do it but I'd also ask for a throw-in rare or two or so uncommons to even things out cause 4 bucks is a good deal of a difference.
Good morning all just got up from bed had to sleep in more then 8 hours today. I am probably going to run the tredmill in a little bit as well its always good to get some excercise on days off. Have a good one everyone and talk to you all later.
Has anybody seen the commercial for "Tiny House" that turns out to be a commercial for Geico Auto Insurance, and Tiny House isn't a real show? I dislike that commercial quite a lot, because I really want to see Tiny House.
The worlds uwr landstill deck looks very similiar to my uwr landstill list except with some differences but other then that its the same deck pretty much here is my uwr landstill list that i just threw together for the mtgs legacy tournament a month or two back.
I normally would run exalted angels usually in landstill like I do with my uw landstill version however i just decided to go the more controlish approach with mine especially against the likes of threshold. Otherwise the two decks above look very similar to each other.
But here is my uw landstill list I used in a couple of tournaments awhile back that also does pretty well against threshold and gets better after sideboarding and probably can have at least a fairly good chance against other decks as well except goblins and possibly loam but goblins is fading pretty fast compared to other decks in the format but could be much more pravelent in some metagames.
At first I thought it was a cute gag, but now it just gets annoying.

At Worlds on Saturday before the Standard qualifier tournament, I saw Spinerocks at anywhere between $4-7. If Fooly goes on the low end of the scale and does sell each for 4 dollars, then he just made a profit of almost $150. Not bad.
Kev: I don't really like that second list, because I saw four thousand STP's at Worlds. It was in 3/4 of the decks played. If you weren't ready for that meta, then you scrubbed out hard.

I keep finding reasons to kick myself for spending all those years essentially wasting away into the pit of my own depression. To think, I could have had a lot of money saved up by now if I'd had a plan back then.
Then again, it doesn't really make sense to impute that onto my past self, since I wasn't even sure I wanted this then. Looking at things another way, all that's happened, internally and externally, over those years are still things which needed to happen and that have brought me where I am now.
If you have to, pepper the universities best known for this sort of medical research/treatment with inquiries, and get names and phone #s of people willing to help you at a reduced rate. GO USE THA INTERNETS, you aren't the only broke-ass trans in the world.

Thanks for the advice, Starr.
Now that I understand a bit more about it, and having a chance to reconsider, the medical costs of the initial phases and hormone replacement might not be too steep. I'd been asking about reassignment expenses, and someone projected to me an end figure of approximately $30,000. Which pretty much killed my determination.
Later, I realized that was intended to include the costs for everything, includingsurgeries, which would be the majority of the expense. And since I currently am not planning any surgeries, that changes things pretty dramatically.
Taking surgery out of the picture, the most expensive thing would be sessions with therapists who have a gender identity specialization and visits with physicians to obtain the prescription, and to have check-ups with both every few months. As I understand it, the actual price of the hormone prescriptions itself is fairly cheap. Some products may even be gained for free in a number of cases.
I'm talking with someone who's been through the process, and she's telling me now that while the whole thing is pretty expensive in the end, it's not impossible for someone with a lower income, but it would require some budgetting. The other things that require a lot of money are all the non-medical changes, i.e. wardrobe, etc.
I already knew about most of that, and had been considering what it would take to get back into psychotherapy (since it's required by the standards of care to get prescribed hormone replacement). I guess it just hadn't hit me as to how much money it could really take to even go that far.
I think it would be easier if I had some health insurance, as that would help pay for therapy sessions. I don't know a whole lot about insurance, though.
Anyone know much about Blue Cross, Blue Shield?

There is some good news, too. I did find a good gender identity specialist that has a program here in Ohio, and relatively close by. It's called the Gender Dysphoria Program of Central Ohio, and it's located in Columbus. I found her via a list of specialists created by members of the forum I joined, and her services come very highly recommended.
Money's still the big barrier, though, since I have no idea how much it could cost me to visit her. The thing that really gets me is that I don't know how long I have to wait to, well, to do anything. I'm sure it's on a scale of months - which is natural - but it could take years, which I'm terrified of having to face anymore.
It's hard not having health insurance, and I'd probably have to greatly postpone any plans I had for college if I want to get involved in this. Now, the more I think about it, the more okay of a choice that seems. I am worried, though, that that would be considered some kind of complication in the therapeutic process.
I'm pretty new to the idea of having autonomous control over my own choices, behavior, and appearance. As I said to another friend, I've always felt like my body was a containment cell, under someone else's power, rather than a vessel through which I could live and express myself according to my own wishes. So it's not like hormones are going to right out "fix" me, anyway. A slow process is probably best, even though I'd have to be able to afford it.
I still have to think about it and go over my options. My financial situation isn't very good but it's not hopeless, either. I think it may be the first time I seriously started planning something like this - that in itself has got to be something good, right?

First off i don't really appreciate negative criticism of any kind(which is why I don't share my decks in the legacy forums anymore) and second I have played landstill and build landstill for more then a couple of years in legacy. Also thats why this deck plays counterspells to take care of stp. Anyhow, i do have decree of justice in the sideboard if one in the main isn't enough and besides any good landstill player can get around any type of hate with a limited resource landstill deck. I have even seen a 4c landstill build without any meddling mages in the sideboard and it only wins with 2 nantuko monasteries and 4 mishra's factories get 2nd place at the german legacy champs and that had more then 140 players.
Oh well at least an high calibur landstill player from germany said my uwr landstill looks very solid and he playtests and builds landstill decks quite alot with his teammate who has more then 3 top 8s in 120+ player tournaments with landstill.
ohh cool i just saw a uw landstill build that did pretty well at legacy worlds too it had enlightened tutors and counterbalance with top though which can wreck threshold and combo. So I think even my version of uw landstill could do well at worlds too. Although the worlds one is very techy and i thought about making a uwb landstill with tutors as well like with the abyss and humility.

Edit: Went by the weekly guide there.
If you think that's best for you I'd probably do it but I'd also ask for a throw-in rare or two or so uncommons to even things out cause 4 bucks is a good deal of a difference.

I normally would run exalted angels usually in landstill like I do with my uw landstill version however i just decided to go the more controlish approach with mine especially against the likes of threshold. Otherwise the two decks above look very similar to each other.
But here is my uw landstill list I used in a couple of tournaments awhile back that also does pretty well against threshold and gets better after sideboarding and probably can have at least a fairly good chance against other decks as well except goblins and possibly loam but goblins is fading pretty fast compared to other decks in the format but could be much more pravelent in some metagames.

i always do this when i think a card is going to rise for trade bait/ebay sales
i did it with goyf, bfb, flash, aeon chronicler, mistbind clique, vesuvan shapeshifter, and now this
Kev: I don't really like that second list, because I saw four thousand STP's at Worlds. It was in 3/4 of the decks played. If you weren't ready for that meta, then you scrubbed out hard.
Check out the H/W List playa:

It's a great way to get in touch with me for trades, or just chattin'. Just don't stalk me please.
Then again, it doesn't really make sense to impute that onto my past self, since I wasn't even sure I wanted this then. Looking at things another way, all that's happened, internally and externally, over those years are still things which needed to happen and that have brought me where I am now.
Later, I realized that was intended to include the costs for everything, including surgeries, which would be the majority of the expense.
Well, it's good to know that it's such a little problem.
Thanks, anyway.
I've often tried to, but I have yet to see you online. What times do you tend to be on?
Oh, yeah? Do you wanna talk about it?
