Actually meeting would be a big endeavor.. we'd have to all agree on a centralized location, plan to get the money to go, decide on the schedule of events, how long we'd be there, and what to do, and plan it at least a year or 2 in advance.
Speaking of which--Holiday avatar! You should totally get one with Yomiko in a santa hat.

Heheh that's very true.... In other words, please Santa Tim?
As for the meeting up, yes indeed it would be quite the endeavor... Of course not everyone would, but I would strongly suggest we start thinking about doing that, starting it in the planning process at least... I'm thinking after I get a job, depending on where that job is, I'd be able to think about something like that.... I'd like to meet at least a few of you guys, at least... Photon, Mamelon, Josh, Alacar, Crimson, Mr. Stuff... Others of you too, of COURSE, but definitely the people who've been around the longest.
We would probably have to plan it like some sort of big Magic event or something.. CoffeeCon or something. With constructed games and a tournament and other, non-Magic stuff, like RPGs and whatnot.
As for Santa Yomiko.. I'll get to work on it when I get home.
Sadly that is true, for those who live in European countries... but at least someone should bring like a camera or videocamera or something and post it on here for everyone to see
A friend of mine actually suggested when I told him about my thoughts on this kind of thing, he does it for his WoW playgroup, and what they do is they choose a different place every year, with the condition that at least one of the people in the group lives in that city, so that every year, someone doesn't need to move...
For me, logically I think the first place to go would be Ohio, because Stuff, Mamelon, Josh, Photon all live there, plus I'm sure some other of you guys live there too??
I know Ally's in Tennessee, and I'm going to be in Oregon until after Christmas, but that's not going to count, because I'm getting a job somewhere out here for the new year on
And I'm glad you think the Helix is hip, Zaphod
Any ideas for a cool holiday custom for me? I'm sick of the Happy 1 1/2 Years to the CoffeeHouse
EDIT: CoffeeCon! That's awesome!!! And oh yea, how are you online, Ally my man? Are you at school? I tried to IM you when I had a question about H-L but you didn't respond... you in a lab or something?
Zaphod: That Jhoira + Paradox Haze one doesn't look bad at all. The focus of the Jhoira art (IMO) was always her hair and her face/eyes, so cropping out the shoulder the way you did looks good still.
While we're talking about banners, I just had a little idea, partially taken from Alacar. Honestly, the only reason I thought of this was because he mentioned a collage. Here's my idea: Take the art for Lightning Helix (or any art deemed more appropriate) and make it into one of those mosaic collages. I know a while back I found more than one site where you could convert ANY image into a mosaic collage the problem is I forgot where those sites are.
As for text of it maybe something along the lines of "Magic Coffeehouse" and "It's not just for us... it's for everyone."
If everyone digs the idea, I'll try and dig up one of those sites and get it done (it should be something even I can do).
@Omna: I can help a little with the banner provided I'm not too swamped in homework...
@Coffeecon: Do we have any clue when/where nats 08 or 09 is? that seems to be an ideal place to meet.
another idea, that I have to ask: how many of you have a facebook account?

....aaaand you're gone. lol.
I was in a computer lab in the library, but now I am home. As for Ohio, it makes perfect sense.
And a holiday custom? Not sure. 'Happy Holidays Coffeehouse' might work.
Meh, Jhoira isn't really bannerable. Paradox Haze is.
Here are my attempts so far:
Both look great, but I like the first one a lot more, since Haze and Jhoira are really cornerstones of the deck. I should probably try to tweak it to slip a playset of Hazes in.. but that Timebug is always so efficient at times.
Great jorb, Zaphod! Here's another of my favorite decks:

Comment #1: Anything you can donate would be awesome
Comment #2: That might work.... Not sure how many of us are still actively playing in tourneys, that's the only problem I can see w/ that suggestion!
Comment #3: Indeed a great many of us do! There's actually a MTGSalvation CoffeeHouse group on Facebook.. that's where you can find most of us I'm Danica Rice- from the RIT Alum '07 and Daytona Beach network
I didn't purposely set out to make a completely banner-oriented post, but that's what this turned out to be. So, if you're not interested in banners and/or my critiques and suggestions of Zaphod's banners, you likely won't find this post very interest. Just thought I'd save you guys the effort.
Good idea Krash. Isn't it great to have a photoshop critic in here
And now, without further hestitation,
Legacy Banner #7:
I love both of those. The first one we've already gone over, so I won't comment on it again past saying that the border may look better if the light blue strip was white to make it stand out a little more (not sure though, really up to you).
I really like the second one as well. I think the angel looks a little washed out, and the banner could use a little more contrast and maybe be a tad darker (not much though), and I like the color effect. Overall another great banner. Your work just keeps getting better man.
That banner is very interesting. I think the way you have the colors the Ichorid blends into the background too much and is just too difficult to see. I think I'd lighten the background a bit and maybe blur it to really draw your eyes to the creature in the front.
Also, for some reason that border doesn't seem to work on that banner. As much as I like that border (and I use it all the time), it just seems a little off there. I feel like that would be a perfect banner to put on a border with about 5-6 pixels wide with a black edge around the outside. The pixel just inside the black edge and the inner pixel on the border would be white, and the middle 3-4 pixels would have white scan lines on them. Also, the entire border (not including the edge) would be set to overlay. It creates a really interesting effect that I think would fit really well (though you may need to duplicate the border to make the overlay more prominent if it's too weak).
A good example of that type of border is the banner portion of my entry all the way back in week 50 of the Weekly Contest (here). Note that I did put a shadow to make it look like the banner was set back a little and I brightened the colors on the border, but both of those are optional.
Also, feel free to play around with fancy borders. That's how I generated a lot of mine. Some of them turn out well, some of them don't, but you'll never know until you try it.
On the subject of a CoffeeHouse banner, I'm both don't really have any suggestions and don't think I'm really qualified to give suggestions on content as I haven't really been a CoffeeHouse member for very long (almost exactly 2 weeks I think). That said, I'm happy to critique the technical aspects of the banner once someone (probably Zaphod) makes it.
Thershold seems pretty big but complicated to play idk. also I have an alien ware and havent had a laptop crash on me yet specially with my 1 terrabyte of memory;p
Threshold isnt really that hard to play cast cantrips, counter spells that are the most threats and attack with goose, goyfs, and quirion dryads.
Anyway I am going to possibly take a nap in a few since im dead tired ill talk to you all soon though. Have a good one everyone! Of course i am probably going to playtest with allin a bit.

thresh is actually pretty easy to play, you just need to know what hte MUST coutner spells are in each matchup, if you know that you should play it like a breeze/

i was aiming that at allin, sorry for the confusion
By the way nice banners that you made zaphod i like the cunning wish landstill banner the best though. Im also glad i didnt have a long day today at work it was sort of a breeze compared to usual probably because my store gets pretty busy on the holidays.
Tryin' to think of a good custom to go along with it:)
I also put up a new profile photo for anyone who wants to check that out:)
I like the Santa hat (or should I say "Satan hat"? They're only different by the placement of one "N". :sneaky:)...both on the avatar and in the profile picture.
As for a custom, I can't think of anything specific, but it should definitely have to do with books, libraries, Santa, Christmas, and/or holidays.

Is this anime character Rider from Fate Stay Night?? I really enjoy that anime, and I think I know the type of chain spike you're talking about, even if I've barely played D&D at all
Sorry Danica i have an older anime as an inspiration, its the chain from Shun from Saint Seiya Alacar agreed to help me with it so now lets see what we can do about it

That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange eons even death may die.
I would participate in a Coffeehouse banner thingy except for one thing; I don't go about making banners the same way other people do. Instead of pulling masterful photoshop stuff I always try to focus on a particularly poignant image and bring out its inherent qualities by messing with it as little as possible. Because of that, my images always look a lot more pedestrian than other people's, even if they do have the same impact.
Well, we had a definitely okay day here in the house of Ether. A friend of ours came over today and we went out to the Chinese restaurant for dinner. Contrary to Josh's and my inclinations we got seated in the VERY MIDDLE of every other patron's area, so our conversation was up for scrutiny. We were discussing everything from horrible baby names to Lifetime movies to God's forgotten son Carl. Needless to say the local yokels started glaring. But if they didn't they just wouldn't be locals, so we took it in stride.
And now I'm still craving stuffed fried mushrooms.
My way of making banners isn't that challenging, I'm just not creative and unmotivated (the same reason its hard for me to program on my own, even though I feel I am quite skilled at doing so).
Today was meh...2 random tests on stuff I didn't do, and then I went out for a few hours with friends.
Now it's 11:20, I'm still deciding if I want to go to a PTQ tomorrow, but I'm probably not, because I hate Lorwyn Sealed right now, and none of the people I wanted to visit while going there are going to be free (the ptq is right across from the college where a bunch of friends that graduated this year went to, so I wanted to try and see them as I don't too often). That, or just take this weekend to chill and relax. First time in 2-3 months I haven't had an 8 hour shift on Saturday or Sunday. Yet part of me really wants to work right now.
That, and I think I might have hurt my ankle tonight, pretty badly.
