waves to mamelon* hello mamelon its good to see you how are you? *hugs*
Well for a couple of days now i have been working on an old uwr landstill deck that is suited to do well in the current metagame but like all decks especially blue based control decks if you don't know the metagame its probably impossible to do well. Although landstill is still a pretty hard deck to use in legacy anyway even if your experienced with it. Thats why you don't see that many players thats first starting out with legacy play a blue based control except me of course and probably belgareth would fall into this category and im sure there are others as well.
Ill just go over matchups for this deck at least the most pravelent matchups.
Threshold: You probably have a favorable matchup against probably the most consistent deck in the format. You have engineered explosives that you can set at 1 to blow up their nimble mongooses and you can also set them at 2 to blow up their werebears, meddling mages, and tarmogoyfs. You also have wrath of god and swords to plowshares as well as countermagic to take care of their mystic enforcers if your playing the white version or fledgling dragon if your playing the red version of thresh.
The Epic Storm: You have a slightly unfavorable matchup preboard since you but preboard is still winnable since you have stifles, force of wills, and Engineered explosives to take care of their storm goblin tokens. Postboard gets alot better for you though since you have meddling mage and another stifle. There was one person who was playing with this deck in the tournament and he pretty much held a perfect record with the deck going into the top 8 in the same tournament i played in with wub landstill.
CRET Belcher: Probably the most consistent and fastest combo deck in legacy at the moment in my opinion. You have a favorable matchup in this as well especially after board were you can pithing needle their belchers and stifle their empty the warrens as well as meddling mage as probably the best anti-combo card ever printed in my opinion.
Goblins: You have a favorable matchup game 1 because of wraths, pyroclasms, bolts, and stps. I really think this deck is much better against aggro then the wub landstill list i previously used in the tournament. You also have disenchant/pithing needles against their aether vials so they can't create any sort of massive card advantage on you. Also Exalted angel can help alot in this matchup as well from my previous extensive testing with exalted in my good old uw control back in the old legacy days.
Landstill mirror: Your key here is to cycle decree of justice under their standstill. Also keeping a Crucible in play can help you win your landstill mirrors. Your pithing needles can help versus their nantuko monasteries and then exalted angels can also win you the game here from the board as well.
Well there is my uwr landstill i just thought it would be fun to bring back an old landstill deck back to life.
I SERIOUSLY hope that was some off-beat humor there Joyd. The thought of actually SAYING that to someone... *shudder* It'd be worth the look on their face though...
Breakups: I've never been great at them but I go with a more straightforward approach. If you don't like them as much as they like you I think the best route is to just get them on the porch with you sit down and just say what you gotta say and what. On the other hand, if you hate each other I don't think there is a best route for that so I go with the phone call dump on that one.... Yeah that's not a great one but it's not like face to face would necessarily work there.
Edit: And instead of it turning into an RC-like car, Sakura, it turns into a black popemobile.
Looking good, Sakuracon. Let's you and me go by Alpha Trion's for some smoothies.
Nice deck, Cecilia!
Breaking up: Yeah.. the more straightforward, the better, as long as it's not in public, and you're civil. Nothing's worse than a hissing fight in a crowded mall

Do it in person, in private, and with a light touch. Alternatively, kill them and preserve their corpse in a glass coffin in your attic. Either way, the "do it in private" part is fairly essential.
In all seriousness, make sure that closure is allowed. Allow questions, and have reasonable answers for them- none of this "I have stuff to figure out" or "it just didn't work" nonsense. Even if the relationship isn't that serious, the other person at least deserves that much for the investment of their time and emotional energy.
ALSO- avoid that whole "treat them to something they enjoy to soften the blow" thing. I'm sorry, that's like throwing someone a party to let them know Grandma died. It doesn't make the blow any softer, it just makes it seem more unexpected, and nothing makes a bad day feel worse than if it started out as a good day.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
Joshua put it well.
If you need to break up with someone, tell them in person. Talk to them in a situation in which will they will feel less vulnerable, preferably in private. Be open and clear about why you're breaking up with them and how you feel about it. Tell them what they need to know, in detail; don't give a blanket reason like "we just aren't compatible." Instead, try to say why you think you aren't compatible. And don't try to minimize it or make it seem like something casual.
As for wanting to remain friends, things like that . . . it may be best to bring all that up at a later time, after the break-up has had time to sink in.
Oh, and try to tell them about it before it comes to be a bad situation. Try to tell them as soon as you're sure, instead of waiting until it gets to be too hard to end the relationship without a lot of complications. Assure them that it isn't because they didn't something wrong, and if they had only acted differently you wouldn't have broken up.
Though, of course, it kind of depends on what the cause of the break-up is.
And Joshua is right, don't take them to do something fun and then break up with them in the middle of it. That will just make it impossible to enjoy any of it, and will probably make them feel humiliated for enjoying themselves with you before knowing where things were going. And don't put them in a situation in which they aren't able to leave and be by themself afterward.

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
I'd like to add something to what Mamelon said just simply as a reminder: Whatever you do remember to make it a two-way conversation as long as its calm and collected on both sides. I'm sure there's gonna be some questions from the other party involved.
And lastly about the before - well i talked with the person and resolved it of sorts. It more or less came down to me being afraid I'm gonna lose Dreia. I mean I KNOW I'm not at this point in the game but yet there was a part of convo that made me think silly, ridiculous, and stupid thoughts.
Wow, lots of people on for a Saturday night. And before anybody asks, I'll not be taking a Transformer avatar. Guchuko plans to destroy all you mini-cons with her laser beam and scythe then put you back together with masking tape. It's what she does.
@Arguas:
Yeah, cons can be scary, scary places, especially for the uninitiated. I can say without any equivocation that the absolute strangest things I've seen people do and wear, I've seen at cons.
And now for something more serious: I hate human emotion lately. Really because of something very small said I've got this pit in my stomach of fear that's really there for almost no reason at all (Logically there's no reason for it to be there that is - emotionally... that's another thing entirely). I mean in some ways I'm glad its there but I feel like an absolute dufus for having it because I know better. I just needed to get that off my chest...
Agreed 100%. I've always sort of felt this way. I don't know why - just my personality, I guess. Cynicysm and logic are an ingrained part of how I look at the world. It's why I'm an atheist, and why I don't value feelings sometimes as much as I should (although admittedly I am also very sensitive/emotional myself). It just seems like emotions are the source of all kinds of irrational and otherwise harmful actions, and most days we'd be better of thinking more logically. Although, taken to the extreme, a person with no emotions would have no incentive to take action of any kind, and would just sort of sit there and not respond to the world, which isn't good either.
Sigh... I've had a pretty great day today. I've not done much of anything besides watch anime. I finished the last ten episodes of Getbackers today, which made me happy since I'd been waiting to finish it for a while. I also finished the last four parts of Golden Boy. Heck if that wasn't one of the closest things to actual hentai that I've gotten ahold of yet... hehehe. Still, it was entertaining. Then I watched the second episode of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, first of Shigurui, and then got caught up on my spring shows with ep 14-15 of Seirei no Moribito, ep17 of Claymore, ep 15 of Lucky Star, and ep11 of Bokurano. Quite a day for anime watching.
Anime of the Week this week will be the one that my avatar's from. Points in advance if anyone knows or can figure out what it is.
The Rocket Summer - Do You Feel (2007)
This is a blinding album. Absolutley amazing. There is a variance in the tracks, but they're all so amazing, some sounding like his older stuff, some sounding new and amazing. His piano is amazing in this CD... words can't describe
Recommended Listening: High Life Scenery, A Song Is Not A Business Plan, Colors, Hold It Up, So, In This Hour...
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (2002)
Really cool stuff, really surreal. I love the bass on these tracks, and that some tracks are just totally screaming. So cool.
Recommended Listening: Fight Test, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots pt. 2, Do You Realize??
Mae - The Everglow (2005)

Recommended Listening: The Everglow, We're So Far Away, Suspension, Anything
Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006)

Tegan And Sara - The Con (2007)

OMG. I LOVE SHAWARMA. OMG. I know this is borderline spam, but I just can't help it. Shawarma is a beautiful food, up there with Lebanese and sushi on the list of most awesome food evar. (Lebanese is first, then sushi, then shawarma).
In case anyone was wondering where some white ass guy like me had Lebanese and shawarma, I've spent some time in the Middle East, and had it there (I miss the Mid. East actually, things made so much more SENSE over there). Figured I'd edit in some, you know, CONTENT.
looks like the otaku blood in us, mr. stuff and me is too powerful in teh face of trasnformer avvie standardization
i'll check my wallpapers and get an answer as to what anime it is
and in regards to cons...i usually go to the dealers table and amv contest than gtho. i may be an otaku, but i dont understand why ppl have to be so squirly. sometimes some of the things i see are just ugh....
@ Mr. stuff: Q. how long will it take for the raws to be up for LS 17? it comes out sometime today in japan. just curious
2) You're welcome, and 1) I have no idea what you're talking about.
Troll isn't as hot in Limited
So.. all the money spent on limited stuff could've pooled towards a cool constructed/casual collection, I see.
My point is, I could have just as much fun as you if we spent the same amount of cash on different crap, bud.
And, erm, have fun?
Wow, for the first time in a while, I happen to disagree with like, everything you said unless you weren't being serious if the face is implied.
Anyway, the first thing was in response to your response... you were saying something about how the shunning had nothing to do with beliefs. I was referring to a YouTube flick called Chaaaaarlie.
And Internets stack in the form of BloodyDoves gifts :-p So there are some bloodydoves gifts that are likely to still be ungiven. Maybe not internet. s. I understand this probably struck a nerve due to the slang factor, but you also know that I don't really overuse such things anyway. I just happened to think it was kind of funny
Troll is very good in limited
Also, you think I don't get a fun casual collection from my draft pics? Those are kind of high quality cards there... simply consider where I'm getting those remands from that I may be offering Limited is actually a fairly good opportunity to get a hold of decent cards, and afterwards, if you really wanted to, trade for the cards you need that others don't.

I'm curious, Charlie, how you feel about instrumentals? Have you heard the work of E.S. Posthumus? It's music I hopefully will get a chance to have in my possession in about a week, and I may collaborate with certain people to share a bit of it
I was being serious You and I will never see eye to eye in regards to Magic, Arguas.
Just kind of curious what brings about the points that you have said, particularly in response to mine. For example, why in your opinion is Troll bad in limited? Unless you don't wish to go into these things... I just happen to think that while it is true we will always disagree on some things, we do actually overlap in opinions more so than I believe you realize
It's not that we disagree, we just don't see things the same way. And no, I'm not inclined to discuss.
I see plenty of lurkers about. Expect Regular of the Week before I go to bed. Geek Mp3 will have to wait though.. got a quadruple size order incoming. (something like 12 mp3s)
Edit: Arguas.. you're using that smiley a bit much, ya think?

2 Wooded foothills
3 Volcanic Island
1 Academy Ruins
4 Mishra's Factory
Spells
3 Swords to plowshares
3 Wrath of god
3 Lightning Bolt
2 Stifle
3 Engineered Explosives
4 Force of will
2 Fact or fiction

2 Crucible of worlds
4 Counterspell
1 Stifle
2 Pyroclasm
4 Meddling Mage
2 Disenchant
2 Pithing Needle
2 Mana Leak
2 Exalted Angel
Ill just go over matchups for this deck at least the most pravelent matchups.
Threshold: You probably have a favorable matchup against probably the most consistent deck in the format. You have engineered explosives that you can set at 1 to blow up their nimble mongooses and you can also set them at 2 to blow up their werebears, meddling mages, and tarmogoyfs. You also have wrath of god and swords to plowshares as well as countermagic to take care of their mystic enforcers if your playing the white version or fledgling dragon if your playing the red version of thresh.

And yes, I was joking about breaking up with someone like that. It would be extremely difficult, because you'd really have to sell the 'Zing'.
Never having been involved in a breakup, I of course have no real advice to offer.
I'll go get the beatbox and the sheet of cardboard.
If you need to break up with someone, tell them in person. Talk to them in a situation in which will they will feel less vulnerable, preferably in private.
