Make the NPC a doppelganger, then when he leaves the party randomly take one of them aside and have the doppleganger gank him. From that point on the PC is your pawn. Mwahahaha.
If the pc wins the fight with the doppelganger, bend the rules a little and have the doppelganger escape and reappear from time to time as an ongoing villain. You can have various NPC's be the doppelganger, and eventually the party will be stuck questioning their loyalties.
AoK: Does it have to be a race in a book? Because otherwise you might just have more fun making one up. Personally I don't even know where to begin. I look in the wrong book and start reading, and get hooked on reading it. I hate it when that happens.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

I suppose it's true. Though the logistics implied in a human/Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon pairing makes me shudder.
...Something tells me that even should all arcane casters in the world unite, that the Grease spell would NOT be sufficient.
That'll work. The doppelganger idea is fun, too.......
Hehe, that's the beauty of being DM. Oftentimes I've had to just pop things in that I've made 'just in case' beforehand, but had no place in the actual campaign, because the party made a turn or a move that I didn't expect (which is frequent, knowing my players)
Good morning folks! Life is good, today is my old teacher's retirement party and there's going to be tons of generations of alumni there, its gonna be a bbq kind of thing so that's going to be awesome...
I'm excited about it.. but after I grab a shower I need to eat and make my coffee, respond to a PM then maybe I can read and play Pokemon for a bit before I leave have a great day folks, I'll catch y'all soon!! Probably will check in before I leave!
AoK - A Grimalkin has moderate charisma and can change its shape, but it's kind of an animal, so it might not be appropriate.
A Sirene can cast Polymorph Self and has a high charisma, but may not be what you want. (It's shy and not very threatening.)
I used to read Dresden Kodak, but I fell away from it for some reason. It's really very good.
wow thats great news, sorry the deck didnt perform better but at least you got some great cards.
So last night i was watching tv, its near 2am and my arm is killing me (wife is laying down on my arm), i gently try to move her and she kinda wakes up, asking me for lechon (hunter's favorite im sure :p), for those who dont know lechon is a big fat pig skewered and roasted in fire, im not a pork guy im already unhealthy enough without eating that, anyways the wife wants lechon at 2am and i really dont know what to do, she knows i cant get so she conforms to just making herself some chocolate milk.
Early this morning wife wakes me up saying she still wants lechon :p, she went out to her lola's house (filipino word for grandma :p), took me money and forgot to leave me anything :p.
Pregnancy man I had forgotten how crappy this can be
regarding DnD, does anyone know a site where i can find the ebooks? preferably free? i have a few but i cant find the ones i really need
This coincides with seeing a baby last night in my house (relative of a friend that was over) crying and throwing up and all that. It makes me wonder why I want to be a dad so much. I know the entire experience will be awesome, but it makes me think all dads are insane to like it.
You probably have absolutely nothing to worry about here. I already did my end of that about a year and a half ago and it really wasn't that bad. Of course, I got lucky and the guy pled but I hear that happens in most cases. Plus, and a disclaimer on not knowing how it works in your state, but once you get it over you wont have to do it again for AT LEAST seven more years.
@Sepiriel: I honestly think you got damn lucky that she made herself do with the chocolate milk last night. If it were me, with my luck, I'd be forced to go out in the middle of the night to go get her what she wanted...
And about the D&D books - well that'd be illegal to my knowledge so lets just ignore that question here on the boards...
Anyway I spent a few quick minutes on the following. I hope a few people get it!
AoK - A Grimalkin has moderate charisma and can change its shape, but it's kind of an animal, so it might not be appropriate.

This is making me want to play something like Oblivion and go kill things. Especially the Shivering Isles expansion, though I'm not sure why.
Looks like my funkbrew partner went 13-2 in rounds at the comic con with the legacy funkbrew deck that me and him worked on for awhile now. I must say funkbrew definetly kicks alot of butt in legacy and he happened to do top 4 at the last 4 or 5 legacy tournaments he plays weekly in san diego pretty impressive if you ask me. Anyway there isnt any deck in the format that Funkbrew can not beat in legacy at least in my opinion with playtesting the deck.

It's time for... Game of the Week! Pokemon edition!
Can you believe the Pokémon games have been going on for over nine years in America? That’s right, the first games launched in America in 1998 with Red and Blue. And now, nine years later, we’re on the fourth generation of games with Diamond and Pearl. And that’s where this review is going.
Pokémon is one of the series that breaks the mold. It’s a series that, even though it has four different generations of games, a bunch of spin-offs, a trading card game, an anime, almost ten movies, and a plethora of other media, it still hasn’t allowed its fame to go to its head. The designers have stuck to the basics and not monkeyed with the base formula. That formula? Capturing monsters + training + odd evolutions + community interactions = good game. This formula has worked for 9 years, and, thankfully, the designers have stuck to it.
For those who haven’t played Pokémon, the premise is simple. You, a trainer, use Pokémon to battle, trying to be the top trainer. How do you do this? By going out, catching Pokémon to use in your party, then toughening them up by battling wild Pokémon or other trainers. Simple, eh?
This could get a little long, since this game is so in depth, so let’s talk the basics. Namely, Graphics, Sound, Storyline.
Graphics. It has long been that Pokémon has not been a particularly graphical game. Mostly because it started back on the original Gameboy, before color, before 3d, before much of anything. Back when things were blocky and fairly ugly. We’re talking about the following:
With all the work being done on the game itself, not much work has been done on the graphics. We gained color in generation two, and the sprites and surroundings have been cleaned up with each succeeding generation. But we’re still talking about sprites and static surroundings. Not too bad, but not particularly good, either. It’s certainly not the best the Gameboy has to offer by any means. Luckily, Pokémon has never been about the graphics. Graphics get a 5/10.
Sound? Also not particularly important. What many critics have noted, and something I will comment on as well, as that the old Pokémon from former generations that are in this game still use the ‘growls’ from their generations. The Pokémon from Generation One sound very odd if you compare them to the newest Pokémon. The music is still the mostly lighthearted fare, and music in battle hasn’t changed much. So, to sum it up, not much has changed on the sound front in the games. Then again, Pokémon isn’t about the sound, either. Sound gets a 4/10.
Storyline? Pokémon has always been very light on it. The storyline you get in this game, like all the others, is a story of the latest bad guys, Team Galactic, who you beat down. There’s also a light smattering of supposed storyline about your rise to be the best trainer in Sinnoh, the region this game takes place in. But this storyline is very light. It’s the creamy topping to the actual cake itself. It gives you something to do while you climb the ladder of Gyms towards your ultimate battling goal. So, in other words, not very important. 3/10.
Okay, now that I’ve gotten through the basics, let’s talk gaming. Pokémon is mainly about three things: Capturing Pokémon, training Pokémon, and battling Pokémon Trainers. In addition, there is also breeding, super contests, and filling out the Pokedex. And those activities are what I’m going to talk about, because this is what Pokémon has always been about.
One of the main parts of the game is capturing Pokémon. You, as a trainer, run around in grass, caves, swim across seas and oceans, fish in ponds, and generally get your hands dirty checking every available habitat for Pokémon. With Pokémon included from all four generations of the game, we now have a whopping list of 493 Pokémon (including Pokémon only available from sanctioned Nintendo events) to capture and raise. That’s no mean feat, believe you me. While capturing Pokémon can be hard, it’s also rather fun. You take your Pokémon, fight a Pokémon until it’s weakened, then toss a Pokeball, which may capture it for you if you’ve weakened it enough. One of your ultimate goals is to capture all 493, so you really get to get cracking. Not much has changed on this front, but that’s just fine. Capturing is still just as fun as it used to be, and there’s plenty to see and do between your captures. But, if you don’t want to bother, capturing can be skipped after you snag five Pokémon to fill your party.
Training Pokémon is another of the three main pillars of the game. To do this, you battle wild Pokémon as well as Trainers to gain experience, much like an RPG. This really makes Pokémon the RPG of the masses, letting them know what everything is. With six stats to watch, the ability to fight certain Pokémon to upgrade certain stats, and learn moves to use in battle. With 467 moves to use (and you can only use four per Pokémon), training a Pokémon involves a lot of customization. This has just grown and grown since the original games, and now you can enjoy hours and hour, if you so choose, of customizing your Pokémon. Of course, this is not required, but it’s something to do that makes Pokémon a very deep game.
Battling trainers is one of the primary activities in Pokémon, almost more-so than any other. Using your Pokémon, up to six, against an opponent’s Pokémon, you duke it out to see who has the strongest monsters. As you travel through the world you will encounter countless trainers to fight and beat. Each bested trainer supplies you with cash to continue your journey, as well as experience for your Pokémon to make them stronger. And should you prove strong enough, you can challenge the Pokémon League, which involve eight of the strongest trainers, Gym Leaders, waiting for you to best them so you can go and fight the Elite Four, four stronger. And if you battle them… the strongest trainer, the Champion, awaits you. Heavy titles for people for you to beat, and they hold up to their namesakes. And should that not prove enough, you can link up with friends around the world and battle them using your Pokémon and the internet. There will always be someone stronger to beat, and you can always enjoy these high aspirations.
You can also breed Pokémon to pass their traits down through generations, trying to breed your ultimate super soldier. You can spend hours, days, just attempting to do so. Personalities are given to your newly born (hatched) Pokémon that govern their stats, abilities that are used in battle, and moves passed down from their parents. Not particularly an important part of the game, but it’s just one more thing for you to do.
And what about Super Contests? They’re contests that don’t involve battling that you can take part in. They’re almost like Beauty Contests (and, in fact, one is a beauty contest) where you show off your Pokémon, have them strut their stuff and show off their moves, and then eagerly await a Judge’s decision. Just another minigame for you to partake of in this game.
As for the Pokedex? There are 493 Pokémon for you to catch, and each one fills a single entry in your Pokedex. One of the challenges in Pokémon has been to fill your Pokedex up completely. This not only involves catching every Pokémon in your own game, you also have to trade with others to get Pokémon not available in your version. This helps to make Pokémon a social game, along with battling with other Trainers around the world.
And I’ve only touched on a fraction of the things you can do. Of course, I’ll let you figure out on your own what else can be done.
As much as my marks for the basics are low for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the basics aren’t what this game is about. Pokémon is always about the gameplay, about being able to give you 200+ hours of gaming for cheap amounts of money. Not many games, even RPGs, can boast numbers like that when you’re talking completion rates. With the ability to play with others, there’s always something to do, and Pokémon is a franchise that keeps growing, meaning your games you’ve completed will still be usable later. The games just never really get old. They’re made for everyone. And that’s why I can happily give Pokémon a 9/10. There’s very little they can improve here, and that really involves graphics and sound. Nintendo has found an excellent game here, a game more popular than the Legend of Zelda or Donkey Kong, second only to Mario himself. And the games just keep getting better every time.
I don't know. The original pokemon kicked butt, yes. After that, I just got tired of it. I gave some of the later incarnations a shot, but I got bored with them. I felt like I'd already played the game before, and not enough changed to make it new and interesting for me. That, and the continuation of names like girafarig (haha, let's make a palindrome out of part of "giraffe" :B:) and sudowoodo (psuedo-wood: it's a tree that's made of rock. Get it?) irked me.
Even though it's late, I'll try to put up AotW today. Other than that, I'll just be relaxing and enjoying my two-day weekend.
About Pokemon.... it was fun for the first two sets of games (up until Crystal). At that point, it was still fun to do the same repetitive stuff over and over again till you caught everything, and traded with other folks for those pokemon you didn't have/couldn't get. Once they upped the number past 250-300 (a big enough number, thanks), it got old. I do still fire up my original cartridge of Red every now and then though. Fun times. (I was the first guy in my school to level to 100... naturally! *Sigh* 1998 was a simpler age. To be 11 again... :xd:)
