Good morning everybody! Last night I went to sleep at around 8:30 PST, which is REALLY early for me.. most times I go to bed anytime between 12 and 4 am .. so yea, early! Probably had something to do w/ the Margarita I had with dinner last night.... Dinner was good, I had an enchilada and a tamale along with a blackberry margarita... Quite good.. no salt on the rim tho, sadly.. I wonder how old I look, though since the guy was asking me how old I was before he gave it to me.. Dad said "Oh around 16, 17.." I wanted to glare at him because I'm over 22 1/2 years old! I can't believe I'm going to be 23 this October... I feel so old...
So yea, I woke up around 7:30 this morning wide awake, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed with nearly 12 hours of sleep... Feels good!:) And its a good thing too, as I need to be awake/alert enough to receive Mom's UPS package when the guy comes... The UPS guy came yesterday, and left a slip on our door so I need to make sure I'm aware of it when he comes...
Also, my friend Stacey is going to come by at some point today to help me fix the TV... apparently the problem with it is the Universal remotes.. they apparently need a code to be inputted once they have new batteries in 'em after not being used for a long time.
Alacar, I must say... That was quite the comprehensive review, and I must strongly commend you on the organizational skills, now that I know precisely why you placed each individual song in the W-I-C, and I'm proud of your accomplishment, and honored to call this the continuing theme OST(Official SoundTrack) of the [Magic CoffeeHouse].. Geeks in Love, I remember showing you all, but it wasn't one of my particular chosen songs, I don't believe... But it definitely still is a worthy addition So no complaints/arguments here on that count! Personally now that I've read that, I feel like listening to the Waffle-Iron-Chronicles again... another quick note, Sanctuary is actually Arguas' and my "song," and we actually performed it together for a class... I wish someone had taped it so that I could show it to you guys... Ah well, someday!
Tanthalas.. I haven't read any of the Kamigawa books, but I don't particularly enjoy bloody novels.. Some of the stuff in Time Spiral was eyebrow raising, as was some of Ravnica and Guildpact.. I don't know tho, maybe I'm just too sensitive.. I never really liked that kind of stuff, so I'm not too certain how enjoyable I'd find them... Sorry to ramble there...
Speaking of goriness and bloody stuff.... I was a huge fan of Star Wars as a kid because when I was growing up, I hated the goriness of the typical action/horror/scifi films, so having laserblasts in the film's repertoire wasn't so bad, as they were never horribly bloody, or even bloody at all, just a bit of a scorch mark and in the case of the stormtroopers, a bit of a flame within the hole... and even then, when people (or other creatures) were shot, there was rarely a closeup of the injury even when the person was sharing their dying words/gestures with another... That was one thing I truly admired about the Star Wars films.... I also enjoyed how well, and ground-breaking they were able to convey special effects within the films well before the time of the entrance of the ultimate computer animation frontier.. I personally was saddened when they revamped Star Wars to include all those brand-new monsters in Mos Eisley Cantina.. I felt as though it nearly ruined the "real" feel of the place, because you could obviously tell that the monsters had been pasted in after the fact. I'm not sure what people seeing the film for the first time, thought... But personally ,as a huge huge huge fan of the ORIGINAL Star Wars Trilogy, I just didn't like it...and while the new (well, the prequel) films have some stellar CGI, I just felt that the focus was much too narrow, almost showing off what ILM (Industrial Light & Magic - Lucas' established Special FX company, run by Lucasfilms) has accomplished over the last 20 years. I am 22 years old, and the last film (Return of the Jedi) was originally released a year before my birth, in 1983 (I was born in 1984) but yet I am one of the most hard-core fans that I know of, and if you choose to narrow it down to the female population, that cuts it down even further! I loved going to see the Special Editions on the big screen, and also remember seeing every one of the prequels on the big screen as well, but I also remember not being especially impressed by the prequels, because as I believe I just mentioned, I feel as though they placed far too much of an emphasis on the special effects, and a theory I have for that is this, Harrison Ford was a very conscious actor, (one of my favorites, actually) one who works closely with the directors and producers of his films, and I have read in several places that he was credited with bugging Lucas, to ensure that he, the other actors, and their acting as a whole, was the real focus of the films, and that the special effects were not detracting from the acting in any way... I believe that this is the reason why the prequels were of a bit shoddier quality than the originals, that the actors in the prequels had become accustomed to the modern-day age of technological advances, that none of the actors had confidence in their skill, or were afraid of being overshadowed by the special effects, so they never had the, pardon me for saying it like this, but the "balls" to stand up to the legendary George Lucas and do the same thing Harrison Ford did at one time, making SURE that the story did not get overshadowed by the special effects.
Whew. That's my ramble about Star Wars.... I don't know how many Star Wars fans we have in the 'House, but I hope, if we have any, this might provoke some discussion, which I welcome.. Again, this is a theory, which stems from my personal opinion regarding the films and the prequels. However, I will state that Revenge of the Sith is indeed a better film than the first two.... I abhorred Phantom Menace... However, the one saving grace of that film was, well, the special effects, but mostly, Qui-Gon Jinn, as magnificantly played by Liam Neeson. Of course you can disagree with me, I just personally believe that these films were much less extraordinary than the originals, which were truly pioneering in the science-fiction field in their time.
I have many more stories to tell about Harrison Ford and his family, his background, some funny stories and bloopers from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones series.... Feel free to ask if you're curious about more
Wow, that was quite a Star Wars rant. If you want to talk about feeling old, I was born the year the original Star Wars was released (1978). I think it's pretty much a general rule that the updated versions were a bad idea. About the only thing I can say I liked about them were the added cityscapes of places like Mos Eisely. Those were nice. Everything else either made the film worse (wtf was with that lame Jabba the Hut scene in the original?) or was just uneccessarily different (oh, ah... Han runs into a room with two dozen stormtroopers instead of six... the stormtroopers on Tatooine ride banthas now... yippie). To add insult to injury, Lucas didn't bother to update those terrible, terrible graphics on the Millenium Flacon targeting computers, which I personally find jarring and hilarious and might have actually been something worth improving effects-wise.
I hated Phantom Menace at first, but after I got used to Jar-Jar I enjoyed it much more. Overall the prequals are certainly inferior to the originals, but I still enjoy them for what they are.

I advise that chocolate fudge cake I had the other day instead- but then again, if you want to pretend it's a healthier option there is some strawberry cheesecake over there in the fridge cabinet.... it has fruit on - so must be more healthy!

It is shaping up as a good day today. I got up early today, and yet did not lose my keys or wind up late as a result (bonus)
I took care of my back rent, bought some groceries to carry me to sunday, and squeezed in a game of magic all before work.

I have to say, I'm not a sweets person, nor am I really into healthy food. But, thanks for the offer.

You forget, Omna, the scene of the bloody arm of the wanted man in Mos Eisley.

Okay.. a lot going on in this quote, but I gotta say this about the Special Editions: I never really thought they 'added' or 'took away' from the movies at all. I agree that the true original films are the best, but in all honesty, the movies as a whole are untouched. Plus, we got to see a better ending to RotJ than a creepy Ewok musical.

That.. or the prequels were poorly written enough and the actors didn't have any legs to stand on. It's hard to mess with the plot when it's already determined. The prequels could have been done so much better.

I am a huge, HUGE Star Wars fan--bigger than you, I'm willing to bet. As for the prequels, they were all crap, but I gotta say, Sith was the best of the three. Not even the magnificent Liam Neeson could save Phantom Menace. And not even a flying badass Yoda could save Attack of the Clones.

1) The original Star Wars was released on May 25th, 1977. You were not born yet. My mom did manage to see it on opening day--all her friends were ga-ga over Luke or Han, and she loved Chewbacca
2) Again, I say that the Special Edition versions do not detract or REALLY add to the movies. Sometimes we get goodies, like the extra Jabba scene (it wasn't bad; got more face time with Solo), the Wampa actually being SEEN in Empire, and again the Ewok song being cut out for a better ending.
Congrats on the EXTREME post count! (In comparison to mine that is...)

Fair enough... Me, I'm sitting here with a cuppa tea (in true English style) trying to concentrate on my dissertation report due in on Monday... 60 pages in three days....possible? We shall see...

Hey folks, just wanted to put a minor plug in here: if any of you have a Facebook.com account, add me, Sean Kamp to your friends/join my Sean Kamp, dictator of Svalbard group. If you don't, don't be afraid to get one.
Good for you, Shah. I'm feeling I'm needing a new computer myself. I got my current one as a graduation gift from highschool, which was around five years ago. The processor is just not up to snuff enough to run some of the new .h264 codec encodes I want at decent speed.
@Star Wars:
Wow, was I ever a huge Star Wars geek back in the day. My friends and I played the Star Wars D6 setting a LOT in highschool. I could name every musician in the Modal Nodes, all the characters in Jabba's palace, and the knew the backstory on most anyone you could name. I do appreciate Omna's sentiment that they removed some of the focus of the movies when they updated them. The movie works because it is GRITTY. Things are dirty, torn, and otherwise not bright and shiny, and most of the spaceships looked like something out of a scrap heap that could fall apart at any moment. Not to mention they all had lots of square edges and protruding parts. A big part of what ruined Episode 1 for me was the introduction of flowing and curving spaceships and buildings that looked like they were out of a more traditional sci-fi movie.
I'm going to ColossalCon in Cleveland tomorrow. In preparation, I:
1. Checked all the fluids in my car and put a fresh quart of oil and a full tank of gas in it.
2. Took out cash for the trip.
3. Got a haircut. (ie, shaved completely, so I look like my user card again)
I've still got to:
4. Stop by a convenience store on the way home and pick up enough food, beverages, and supplies to last me all day tomorrow.
5. Stuff all that stuff in my backpack and my things packed up.
6. Take a shower / get clothes and things ready for tomorrow.
7. Set the alarm clock for 5:30am so I can get up there by 10:00am.
This is the longest I've ever had to drive to get to a convention, and getting up at 5:30am so as to leave by 6:00am is gonna suck. I won't be able to stay as long as I'd like either, since it's a four hour drive back home, meaning even if I leave at 8:00pm (way early for a con) I'll get home at midnight. Ah well. I'll enjoy every bit of it while it lasts.
@Ophina:
60 pages in three days? Holy snikes. I'd call ahead for an extension if at all possible, unless about thirty of those pages are sources/graphs/documentation.
@Photon:
Well... that sucks about the MP3 player. I've noticed I've quit using mine quite as much, so I suppose it is possible to get used to being without one... Then again, I was rather distressed when the radio went out in the vehicle I was driving some time ago, and I had to be without it for a few weeks. I hope it doesn't wear on you too much.
@ Coffee:
I don't like coffee, but I have a rather unhealthily strong addiction to soda. When I was in college I could go through a 24-pack of Dr. Pepper in a week. Dr. Pepper keeps me fueled regularly from day to day, and Mountain Dew is for when I need something a bit stronger to keep me awake.
Well, Shah, your Champloo is done, and I'm burning it to disc right now to take home and rip the MP3 from. See you all soon.
Things are still quite disastrous but I think it's calmed down enough to post again.
First and foremost, welcome to the House new people!!
Congrats to Photon and Ether...you two definitely deserved it!!!!
Mams, Ether, and Photon...good luck with music and a fourth housemate. Hang in there.
Alacar, I downloaded the mp3s and have listened to them but my truck is programmed to random so I'm not sure how they sound CD-wise. Pretty good music for everyone that picked the songs. Thanks for putting it together.
Starr, I seriously hope your luck turns around soon. It seems like it is one thing after another. *hugs*
Kraj...I know the house/apartment hunting isn't until October but I still want to wish you good luck. A good one at a decent price is difficult to find.
Sakura, glad to hear things seem to be getting better for you.
Omna..continued good luck on your thesis. About keeping in touch with the distance, Mr. Stuff's idea about letters was really good. If you're not the type to write it out and mail it, even an email may suffice. Sending a simple note or card generally brings joy to someone. A cute message here and there can't hurt either.
Shazzy, congrats on the kitchen being nearly done. I'm sure you'll be happy when it's finished. Also, job well done at regionals (if I read correctly).
Hunter and Myta...good luck at university/college.
As for me, things have been quite rough in the past few weeks. My father lost his job so we're trying to squeeze blood from turnips to pay the bills. The health insurance runs out at the end of July at both of my parents are diabetic, so I'm pretty worried. Finding a job around here is nearly impossible, so they're considering moving out of the area and possible all the way to Wyoming. While I don't really like living at home still, I'd have to get an apartment by myself or something. I get along incredibly well with my dad so WY is a bit far away if it gets that bad. Also, things are still really rough with my great grandmother. We're taking it one hour at a time. Then last Friday morning, my uncle rolled his semi and it took over an hour to get him out of the cab. He's living but incredibly sore. At work, I'm doing the work of three people and it's eating at me. I like keeping busy but I'm over-stressed more than usual. And lastly, I was in three car accidents this week. One with two deer, one with a single deer, and one with a semi. I'm fine but a bit shaken and my truck has something wrong with the headlight area but nothing major. I just need some good news to come my way I suppose.

Thats sad Dreia, dont worry, God maybe has some good plans to come. Take care and goodluck to everythin. Btw my Grandfather and brother are diabetic too. They are like, pumping insulin and stuff..
@dreia: sorry to hear about your father losing his job. I really hope everything works out for the best for you. Ill be praying and like always wishing you the best to you and the people that are close to you.
Well i just got back from work and i am going to eat dinner soon and probably relax for the rest of the night but i will post later tonight though in here. See you all soon and i hope all of you had a good day today. Take care and see you all later tonight. *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*

Hey everyone! It's the weekend and I have things to do, and to start a good Saturday I'm going to greet all of you a happy Hello!
I've had my first 12-hour long sleep in two weeks, and boy was it great! I woke up refreshed and raring to go, but then I got hungry and cooked myself up some ham and egg sandwich.
Today I'm going to a bookstore (call me weird, but I really love going to bookstores and hobby shops because the aura there is very calming) to buy several stacks of paper for research, and some of my school books. I might be going to the hobby store later on to buy some cards. My U-W deck hasn't seen daylight yet, but it's almost done so it's going to see daylight soon enough.
Tomorrow I'm going to attend a wedding... *orders hot chocolate with whipped cream, chocolate syrup and a :cookie:* here's to the happy couple... whoever they are! Seriously, I don't know whose wedding I'm going to.
Right now I'm going to make an outline of my homework in Lit.
---
@Dreia: Thanks for that! I'm just starting off... It's okay so far.
Well i am going to call it for the night. Ill talk to you all tommorrow hehe only a 4 hour shift tommorrow not that bad then ill be officially working 32 hours this week. See you all soon though and have a great weekend everyone. Goodnight and sweetdreams. *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
Sleep, and work tomorrow. Today, was the day from hell for me. Firstly, I had to go in at 9:30, which meant I had to get up early, which I hate. Then, it basically got into a normal day, but I think the lack of sleep and whatnot got me frazzled early on.

Yeah, sleep sounds good to me. With my lack of it last night, and my semi-early shift tomorrow, I'm probably headed to bed soon too. Tomorrow is one of the other people's birthdays, so I switched shifts with him, and now I'm working 8 hours tomorrow instead of 4. I'm sure to be tired out again tomorrow, but I have Sunday and Monday off, so I'm going to sleep late and relax.
I've actually gotten back to playing Tales of Symphonia again. Spoiler for a reason:
OMG, Kratos = Lloyd's dad? I totally didn't see that coming. I chose to get Kratos instead of Zelos, but I'll probably play through the game again, just to get all the different stuff and do things differently. That damn Sword Dancer was tough as nails. Took me a long while to whittle that 99,999 HP down. Unlike the last few matches with him, everyone was alive at the end of the battle. (I reset the game when they died in the first and second battles so they got the XP
Anywho, I'm gonna go get less clothed and watch some TV before bed. Night everyone!
Edit: Oooo, another 7 posts until I get my custom thing-y!
I actually like doing my assignments and reviewing for quizzes. I'm not a school geek or anything, but I love studying! And the stuff that I study (ghosts, demons and other paranormal stuff) are actually appreciated in college.
In lit class yesterday we read this story about a guy who killed his five wives in five months, and I thought of Jack the Ripper killing all those girls, and poof! Everyone started asking me what my other interests are.
For the first time I feel good about being me, not like in high school... I was considered the weird kid.
I never knew college would be so fun and liberating!
@Hunter: You going to sleep soon? I'm going offline in a while, but I'll surf for a few more minutes.
As for me, I've been a bit busy. We just started school last Wednesday, and it's been abit hectic since I don't have much time anymore. I also met Myta last... Thursday? I think.
I'm still undecided on going to Regionals (we're having it next week.) If I do, the deck I'm most likely to run is Red Deck Wins - the undecided thing so far is the build considering there's so many out there. I'm lacking Char, but I can cover any of the builds. The deck right now is in Gargadon mode, though.
@Archy: Hey yeah. I visited CSA cause I needed to get my alumni ID, and I saw my dear old (but she's young) physics teacher, Mrs. Padlan. I miss you guys a lot! When does your activity hour start? I'm going to visit the seniors and play a good round of magic with them one day.
Get ready for cheering ha? What's your theme now? Hope it's Pirates! I hear the seniors are making 300 their theme this year. Beat the crap out of them okay? I'm voting for you guys to win!

Anyone have plans for the weekend?
It is shaping up as a good day today. I got up early today, and yet did not lose my keys or wind up late as a result (bonus)
I took care of my back rent, bought some groceries to carry me to sunday, and squeezed in a game of magic all before work.
Would you like that in a cup, a thermos, or I.V.?

I have to say, I'm not a sweets person, nor am I really into healthy food. But, thanks for the offer.
I.V., definately.

Fair enough... Me, I'm sitting here with a cuppa tea (in true English style) trying to concentrate on my dissertation report due in on Monday... 60 pages in three days....possible? We shall see...

@Star Wars:
@Ophina:
60 pages in three days? Holy snikes. I'd call ahead for an extension if at all possible, unless about thirty of those pages are sources/graphs/documentation.
@Photon:
Well... that sucks about the MP3 player.
Thanks Kevin! yay! first page of MGA comes with me! FInally!
Damn Alacar thats alot of posts..well my current one's not so bad..^_^

I hope all is well for everyone!

@Dreia: Thanks for that! I'm just starting off... It's okay so far.

Anywho, I'm gonna go get less clothed and watch some TV before bed. Night everyone!
Edit: Oooo, another 7 posts until I get my custom thing-y!
Windmills do not work that way!
Good luck on your thesis. Try not to go insane, okay? It's bad for you. ^^

Get ready for cheering ha? What's your theme now? Hope it's Pirates! I hear the seniors are making 300 their theme this year. Beat the crap out of them okay? I'm voting for you guys to win!
