Books...Lemme see, *stirs memory with a blunt but freshly scrubbed wooden spoon*
I had a friend who made me read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy series because going into high school, I was a total sci-fi virgin and had only had the Narnia books read to me in class. (Which I enjoyed, but in general our family weren't readers. Few books in the house + regular and significant chaos = you can't own anything nice, or for very long.) So, in no particular order, some of the more memorable ones, either for their adventurous spirit, or genius, or just plain having to wade through them all to get to the interesting part:
The Belgariad by David Eddings
The Foundation multilogy by Isaac Asimov
the original Dune trilogy by Frank Herbert
All the Deryni books up through Camber the Heretic by Katherine Kurtz, after which I could take no more
The Xanth books by Piers Anthony
ugh, can't remember them all...I think I started several other trilogies and sagas but got too busy with other things and left them, never to return.
Lately my fiance is making me read the better parts of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. A refreshing world full of interesting characters that's always better, and yet worse, than any thing you can see in real life.
I admit I have not been doing as much reading the last few years as I normally do.
What I have read in the last year;
Secret wars (reprint of the original Marvel series in Graphic novel form)
The Physics of Superheroes (a really good book on physics in relation to Comicbook heroes, written by james Kakalios)
Various comics, and even then have not read as much as I usually do.
On my desk at work I have the following waiting for me to read ;
Stranger in a Strange land (one of my fav novels ever), Waldo & Magic Inc., and Revolt in 2100. Heinlein is among my favorites.
At home I have a book on gender roles and a copy of Paradise lost I mean to read sometime this summer.
I have gone from 2-3 books a week to maybe one every 2-3 months, this kind of disturbs me.
My favorites growing up.
My Side of the Mountain (with my need to get away from everything, I found I related to this one very well)
Robert Aspirin's Myth series (cannot get into them so much anymore, but loved them in Highschool)
The Hobbit (I devoured this one, but didn't like LoTR so much as a youth)
I didn't read as much as I wanted in Highschool, my Dad made a point of telling me everything I read was garbage. We had a huge argument once about how a book like the Hobbit was not a novel. he seemed to think that for a book to be a novel it has to be recognized as one of the greats, and everything else is junk. Mind you, he reads Louis Lamour books like they are water.
Man, it's been a while since I've watched any Gravitation. I'm not sure why - maybe it was the focus on music and the industry or maybe it was because I really identify with Shuichi - but I love that series.
Before the anime was localized (back when we were still fretting about them turning Shuichi into a girl for the dub), a good friend of mine sent me the whole thing on fansubbed V-CDs. I watched it every single day, at least two episodes a day. "Glaring Dream" has become a song that defines me, mostly because I got into Gravi just as Josh and I met and began courting =)
Speed Racer movie? *Ears perk* I gotta check out that thread!
EDIT: Oh lord, comic books. I used to read so many series religiously. Iron Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Wolverine, X-Calibur, Ghost Rider, Avengers, Generation X. Never was very into DC comics but I did really like Green Arrow and Batman.
@hunter: Have a great night hunter. I am glad you like my primer in the MGA thread about Mono green aggro evasion.
@sakura: i like ramen too.
@ether: by the way ether i beat hellcloud with ease which is at the great fane in dragon quest 7. I had to turn off all of my classes that i had to learn though so i can get my maximum hit points and magic points back for each character and that sure made a big difference. He was a fairly hard boss though since he kept summoning his little goons to cast sleep and attack your entire party.
Well just wanted to stop by and say good morning or goodnight to everyone. I have a pretty long day ahead of me since i work from 1:30pm to 10pm today but after that i have an easy shift tommorrow then i have friday off wohoo! Well ill probably post another time later tonight when i get back from work then probably head to bed. See you all soon and have a great day or night everyone. *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
Love,
Cecilia

I cought myself doing something I hadn'y done in ages.
First i made myself dinnner. i nice bowl of Ramen (decent stuff from th asian grocer) prepared with fried egg and baby corn. Huge bowl, chopsticks.
Then I loaded up an episode of Gravitation.
It has been years since I ate a bowl of Ramen and watched anime at the same time. I knd of lost intrest in anime for a while...not sure why.
Makes me feel like my life is back on track.
* Sakura is Hyped for the Speed Racer movie (See the entertainment section) The cast looks awesome, and the Brothas gonna work it out.
Heh, Ramen and Gravitation, eh? One of these days, I really gotta sit down and watch the anime. I have it, but never really got into watching it. I did read all the manga though.
Funny story: A friend of mine, who is aware I'm bi, is a bit homophobic. He can't really stand to see anything gay. Another friend of mine, a girl from DDR club who I was fairly good friends with, came over with the first disc of Gravitation for us to watch. While watching, I remembered a character, K, has a huge collection of guns. My friend loves guns. We pause the movie and I yell for him to come over to see the huge sniper rifle K has (which he actually does have in later episodes). He comes over, sees the paused image of Shuichi and his boyfriend kissing in an elevator, and quickly runs off and either does a really good imitation of being sick in the bathroom, or... I asked my other friend over, he looked, made fun of the first friend by screaming, "OH GOD!" and ran around the room like a chicken with his head cut off.

Foundation is awesome. I just finished the 'canon' Foundation novels, the ones where they are generally short stories, and now I'm onto the single-character revolving ones. Just past the Gaea bit. I'm loving it. I'm going back to read some of the other novels that lead up to it, like the Caves of Steel books.
I've finished reading the first two Dune books. I have to say... The second one just flew over my head for the majority of it. I don't know why, but it went by so fast and so fluidly, I didn't retain much. Or maybe I did and not much happened. I bought the third one and am getting ready to read it.
Pratchett is a genius, I think. I use that term liberally for anyone able to be extremely creative or good at what they do, but I think he truly is one. He's able to satire so much of real life. I think I've read all but one of the books he has out, and that final book, Good Omens, is in my possession. I just had to wait for it to be in paperback. Can't wait for it. I'd advise reading any of the Sam Vimes books, since they tend to be REALLY good. Some good standalones in the group are Moving Pictures, Jingo, and Monstrous Regiment (a Discworld version of the Mulan story).

I LOVE Stranger in a Strange Land. I read it once every 3-4 months. And there's always something new I find in it, to be honest. Read it initially when I was... 14 or so, and never fail to enjoy the read. I've got to say, Jubal is my favorite character, almost of all time.
I have gone from 2-3 books a week to maybe one every 2-3 months, this kind of disturbs me.
I know how you feel. I used to be the same. I still have a voracious appetite for books, but I take my time now to get everything, instead of speed reading like I used to.
The Hobbit (I devoured this one, but didn't like LoTR so much as a youth)
I remember, so long ago, when I was 6, I read this alone. My dad had previously read it to me at age 5. I was so excited, I pulled down my leather-bound copy (which has gone missing, sadly) and read it through on my own. I was so proud of myself.
Man, it's been a while since I've watched any Gravitation. I'm not sure why - maybe it was the focus on music and the industry or maybe it was because I really identify with Shuichi - but I love that series.

You know, I DO see you as a Shuichi. And that amazes me that they were going to turn Shuichi into a girl. That'd ruin the whole anime, I think. Ick.
I've never been able to get into comic books. I think it's mainly how spread out they are, and that you have to buy each one in turn. I'd rather settle down with a novel, because you generally get the whole story in one go.
Like I said before, I don't read a lot but at the moment I'm halfway through "The Devil in the White City". It is an extremely fascinating book. It is a non-fiction book, that amazingly reads like fiction, which tells two stories. One is the story surrounding the 1892 Columbian Exposition (ie., World's Fair) in Chicago. It describes the city as it was in that time, what the political and social climate was, etc. It's a fascinating slice of history told as if the author was writting narrative memoirs.
The other story the book tells, is the life of Dr. H. H. Holmes, one of the most prolific serial killers in the history of the western world. Holmes built his operation at the same time the World's Fair was being built, and he used it as a method of attracting victims.
The thing I like best about the book is the two stories are both parallels and polar opposites. One is about rising above the poverty, depravation and vulgarity of turn-of-the-century Chicago to produce a grande acheivement in art, to showcase the very best of humanity. The other is about unleashing the very worst of humanity. The two stories play of each other and intertwine amazingly to create the rollercoaster of mood swings. When Chicago triumphs, it is exhillerating; when Holmes triumphs it is horrifying. Every obstacle Chicago overcomes is a hope-filled testament to human potential; everyobstacle Holmes overcomes is a dread-filled testament to human depravity.
And I'm only half-way through the book. Yes, it is gather grim but (so far) not graphically gruesome. I highly reccommend it.

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
Good morning everyone... wonderful to hear about the different books that formulated people's lives growing up.... and I must say, before I pick up where I'm going right now.. congratulations to Crimson Avatar for the 400th post!! :cookie:!! Been a while since you've gotten one of those my man!
Ally, do RotW and fix up those Geek Mp3s! I just downloaded the four volumes of the Waffle-Iron Chronicles, so I'm eager for more to add to the list I just imported the two discs of the CD that Ryan created for his friend's campaign last year.. Wonderful to listen to, varying music from Safety Dance, Animal I have become, various Chronotrigger medleys, various KGNE songs, various FF songs... Great blend I'd say, with a total of 49 songs combined... iTunes was nasty last night, it ate three of the songs on the 2nd CD... but I re-imported and fixed that pretty well... so now everything is the way it ought to be...
A friend of mine burned Knights of the Old Republic for me to play... I burned it... didn't require any fancy-schmancy codes or whatnot.. which was good, cuz the dude forgot to give me a security code- but apparently I don't have the Play Disc... which is a problem, if I actually wnat to PLAY the damn game.... Does anyone have any suggestions about this? The game is actually downloaded onto my computer... the menu comes up, but when I click "Game," it gives me a message saying "Please insert Play Disc - Disc 1" which I tried, Disc 1, (I actually tried all 4 discs that i had!) but to no avail... so i think its more likely that he forgot to burn the right CD or...something. Any suggestions??? Crimson already suggested uTorrent for getting it, but its enormously complicated as I don't have all the software at this point... and it would take all night to download Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I've been getting kinda excited about playing this particular game, but now I can't
Thank you to everyone who commented on their books... I remember a Wrinkle in Time quite fondly as well.. I've never read anything by David Eddings or Terry Pratchett or anyone of the sort.... I ADORED the Xanth series by Piers Anthony though, I grinned so big when I read that on your list Starr.... Wonderful series! Also, this is a series I still love to this day, but the Thursday Next (main character's name) series by Jasper Fforde..is amazing, especially for literary fans... It takes place in ....dammit.. what's the name of the town you're from Tanthalas? I know it, but have spaced on the name.... OH! Swindon!! I didn't realize that was an actual town, but yeah, the Thursday Next series (first book of which is the Jane Eyre Affair ...great book, about Jane Eyre being stolen out of her own book...from the original manuscript, and since Jane Eyre is a first-person narrative, it causes all the books country-wide to simply disappear.. become blank, after Jane Eyre has been "introduced" or not so, in the version of the book where she's been kidnapped... and Thursday's adventures of getting her back, and the books that follow are along similar veins, in that they're involved with the "Book World" in some way... for instance, the Cheshire Cat is the Librarian for the Well of Lost Plots, the place where all books go when they were either discarded by their authors, or never published, or some other terrible tragedy occurred. Its just a great series.
Let me see....The Hobbit was great, but I notice a recurring trend amongst the Regulars.... Not many enjoyed the Lord of the Rings set as a whole.... I confess, I have never read past the first half of Fellowship... I gave up on it after the excruciatingly boring part, in I believe Rivendell.... before they meet Bilbo.. it was just so SLOW!! I could be wrong about the part, but it was around there... I was in the 7th grade My teacher also forced me to read Lord of the Flies when I was in 7th grade as well..... Gah, I hated that book!!! There have been overall very few books where I have given up on reading... Lord of the Flies, Will of the World (a book about Shakespeare's life), and the Emily Dickinson Biography.....a few others, to be sure, but those are the ones that stand out, especially recently... (Will of the World and the Emily Dickinson one were last summer)... Honestly, when I find myself entertaining myself reading it as if I was narrating.... that's when its time to stop.... Its aggravating because I simply HATE to NOT finish a book.... Its aggravating. But anyway... let me see..what other comments to be made... Narnia, naturally... I've never heard about the series you were talking about Mamelon, that makes you say still that you are a Christian today... Remind me the title?
Nai, its wonderful to see you back! And Hunter, please don't forget about the backwards time zones of the United States versus the Phillipines... I was asleep when you were IMing me...
Speaking of sleep.... Every single morning, I've found myself awakening naturally at 10am.... and then half an hour to an hour later, I've felt as though I wanted to sleep some more... so sometimes I end up curling up on the circle armchair thingie i have and taking a nap for 3-5 hours... Its annoying when I want to wake up and start my day... Today, fortunately, I don't feel that way too much... I fell asleep around, I think 11 or 12, when I was done w/ the 2nd to last chapter in my book, and then woke up again at 2am, moving to my bed (I was in the living room conked out on the circle armchair) and slept until 10.. perhaps the extra two or three (or so) hours of sleep helped.... Lets see how I feel the rest of the day today.... I do feel somewhat more awake though.. and I feel like getting some things done here...... Law & Order is from 10-1 though... So I want to go watch that... I love that show
Next Monday there's going to be a marathon of the Law & Order shows, from 1-...? 10 or 12 episodes in a row, I believe... Should be fun
Let me see here... Comic Books... I read all sorts when I was a kid... not many superhero ones though... I liked the IDEA of reading superhero ones, but I never liked the graphicity of it too well... for instance I read some of the old Superman ones, and they were too... unnecessarily violent I felt. But I did LOOOOVE the Disney comic books.. My dad would always give me a couple bucks to buy 'em from the store.... I don't see them there nearly as much anymore, which makes me sad... and recently, a beloved favorite of mine, the typical Archie & Jughead, Betty & Veronica series...... I looked on the Double Digest shelf at my local grocery store, and my eyes bugged out to notice that instead of the cute and innocent attire that Betty and Veronica used to wear (well, more Betty than Veronica.. Veronica was alwyas such a *****), there was now more......BUSTY... clothing on them.. halter tops and clear cleavage...... It just made me .... I don't know, sad, I guess.....
and on an entirely unrelated subject, (which was sparked in my memory by "cleavage") Ryan and I were discussing a few days ago, some weaponry for his system, OGS, and we were trying to determine what sorts of weapons would be necessarily classified as "cleaving" ? Axes, obviously, and he finally decided on Saws, but that REALLY is a stretch...... can you all think of any weapons that decisively do "cleaving"? I'll be happy to report back to him what you think.... I think its worth considering, and I believe definitely worth asking the 'House members cuz so many of you are active D&D players and other tabletop RPG system players..... That'd be awesome if you guys could think of some...
Referring to RPG systems and back to my original (well, one of them) point about KotOR, do any of you guys know of a GOOD computer game that employs RPG elements and isn't too insanely difficult for a newer RPG'er like myself?? Just a thought
Let me see.. what else.. .I have a cut on my wrist, I have absolutely no idea where it came from.. I'm assuming it looks old enough to have possibly occurred in NYC at one point.. I'm not sure how or what happened, but thats a possibility.
Lately I haven't felt very motivated to do very much but right now I'm feeling much more motivated and I love talking to you guys.. It really helps me to kind of get my motor running and also, my friend just informed me that she and her mom will be allowing me to use their old TV for the summer, so that I can play games on it without needing to pester Mom for the TV, and also I can watch the movies that I will be needing to analyze for my Senior Thesis....
This would be as good a place to ask as any I suppose... Do any of you have any books by the scholar Joseph Campbell? He wrote extensively on Myth and the Hero/Quest narrative mythological concepts... If anybody would have any books on that general concept or even books written by him, it would save my life Let me know !! Drop me a PM or an IM if you have my contact info... Its all in my sidebar under contact stuff if you need it
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough.... I should probably go watch Law & Order and make myself some breakfast and then either hook up my PS2 or do some sorting and reviewing of the books I do have about that subject... Also! Fairly recent books about the history of animation would help TREMENDOUSLY....I can mail these books back to you, most definitely... it would most likely be by the end of the summer, or at latest end of October, or you can copy articles you find, if you can, send them my way.. anything at all, with sources, would really help.
Anyway, I'm going to head out, like I said in the last paragraph, make myself some breakfast, watch the next hour and a half of Law & Order and then figure out what I feel most motivated to do... hopefully I will remain feeling this positive motivated mindset... I will be... I feel a lot better today.. Just kind of been down in the dumps recently so yeah... its a bit difficult to adjust back to being home for the summer...
By the way, just in case you all didn't know, or didn't pay attention the last time I mentioned it, I am home in Oregon state for the summer, so that means that "Omna-time" is now Pacific Standard Time which means right now it is 10:42 over here, and for all of you East-Coasters it is now 1:42..
Have a good day everyone!! I hope you enjoyed my rather lengthy post, I realize it was rather long!!
EDIT: Right now, I'm reading, as I've mentioned before, the Child That Books Built..... the chapter I read last night was about The Little House on the Prairie series... Great series, and Spufford does a great job of detailing his impressions, and how they changed his life growing up..... Same as with the Narnia books... the next chapter is the last chapter of the book.. I'm really quite interested to see what he features this time......and then, hmm, the book will be finished, and I will need to figure out which book to read next ... I'm nto entirely sure.... hmmm. I also need to make some time to read up and do the homework for my online class, Communicating in Business... So yea, that oughta be fun, but I need to motivate myself to do that too But yea, I'm thinking I may go for a much lighter book this time around, because that book in itself took me a LONG time to read.. the first couple chapters were slow going because of how much psychology and, well, quite frankly, how wordy and flowery his style was.. it just took me a while to get through. The introduction was absolutely amazing... I would recommend reading the introduction, to anyone... Who knows, perhaps I'll have to transcribe it for you all to read... he talks about how hes a book addict, and truly, I would love to be like that.. I can really see myself being like that, reading everyday, having books in every single room of my house.... though that would reqiure me to be alone and single for a while, which is, yes, the goal eventually, but at this point, that hurts me to consider... Honestly, I loooooooove the concept of being alone to just focus on my work, reading a book every day, developing a wonderful bookshelf of books that truly define oneself..... That's my dream, I think.. to really be able to live on my own like that.. come home from work, talk online for a bit, make a cup of coffee, pull a book off my shelf or side table, and curl up to read it for a few hours until bed... Yet, doing that means a separation from the one I love so tremendously... Ryan.. how I know we need the time to separate eventually but just the sheer thought of that makes me dread that part of my life, while the other half of me is so excited by it... I'm not sure...... Its kind of strange, I suppose. Have you all ever felt that way? (sorry for the super-long edit lol)
I'm playing Kingdom Hearts (the original) on Expert mode, and I have to say, it's VERY hard. Harder than all of Kingdom Hearts II, and several other games I've played. Getting one-shotted at full health by minor enemies is irritating.
Good morning everyone... wonderful to hear about the different books that formulated people's lives growing up.... and I must say, before I pick up where I'm going right now.. congratulations to Crimson Avatar for the 400th post!! :cookie:!! Been a while since you've gotten one of those my man!

(sorry for the super-long edit lol)
wow omna that sounds like your been having a pretty busy day everyday sounds alot more detailed then my days when i dont have work then since i usually just play dragon quest 7 all day and thats about it when i dont have work and i should finish ff12 soon too been putting off finishing the game for too long. You have a good day as well omna.
I'm playing Kingdom Hearts (the original) on Expert mode, and I have to say, it's VERY hard. Harder than all of Kingdom Hearts II, and several other games I've played. Getting one-shotted at full health by minor enemies is irritating.
Sounds as hard as golden eye on the hardest mode which i hardly played the game but it was very hard to me but i am not very good at the game anyway.
Well i am going to take off soon see you all soon and have a great day everyone. I also hope the cavaliers win their first game against the spurs and also win the whole thing they have a chance i think.
See you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses*

Hahha.. I can DEFINITELY imagine how that game would be annoying and even more difficult on Expert Level... I would never even TRY that, because of how newish to the gaming world I am... for Gods sake, speaking of FF12, I was so frustrated by the battle system.... graphics were cool, but the battle system, GRRRRR.... all those blue lines and red lines and argh.. I always accidentally ended up canceling my actions when I did that... cuz I'm used to KH style immediate action when you press the button kinda thing, not the wait-for-it-to-load kinda thing....
Ooh ooh, did i ever tell you guys I finished FF1 on the DS?!? I was sooo proud of myself!! That was my first ever RPG completed!!! . ....well, game completed Still, I felt really amazed that I finished a game, finally... and the best part was, Arguas was there with me that night when I finished it.... I was very happy to have him there seeing me finish my first game ever...

Nice job omna! *claps* Yeah thats definetly not an easy game to finish i remember ff1 being one of the hardest final fantasies ever made in my opinion. I am proud of you too.
oh yeah and silklash spider is one of the coolest green creatures ever printed in magic.
Well i am really going to go now see you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses* Have a good day and/or a goodnight everyone. Thank goodness its only 72 degrees today considering its usually around 90 degrees at this time during the year and it gets to be around 106 an hour later.

The FFXII style is hard to comprehend, I know. It helps if you play FF11, which the game is based on. To be honest, the first time I played it, I immediately thought, "Wow! This is just like an offline Final Fantasy 11!"
As for Kingdom Hearts... I've beaten both, know all the tricks. It's just DOING it.
Ally, do RotW and fix up those Geek Mp3s! I just downloaded the four volumes of the Waffle-Iron Chronicles, so I'm eager for more to add to the list
Let me see....The Hobbit was great, but I notice a recurring trend amongst the Regulars.... Not many enjoyed the Lord of the Rings set as a whole....
Okay.. #1. I will. Today hopefully.
#2. I LOVE LotR. I just thought reading it in the 8th grade wasn't 'the books of my youth'. I guess now it is though. I read Lord of the Rings four times from 8th grade to 10th grade. And I STILL say you should give it a chance.
#3. It won't work because KOTOR is smart. Burned copies won't load because the game knows they're burned copies. You gotta get a CD crack or a full copy of the game or something.
I'm playing Kingdom Hearts (the original) on Expert mode, and I have to say, it's VERY hard. Harder than all of Kingdom Hearts II, and several other games I've played. Getting one-shotted at full health by minor enemies is irritating.
I honestly dunno what you mean there, Nai--I played it on Expert mode and while I agree that it is harder, it is not nearly as back-breaking hard as you say. The only thing that truly irritated me was the boss battles (Cerebus, I hate you)
Well, that's what I mean. Some of the bosses are just hard. It's really the minor enemies that fight WITH them that give me troubles. I thought Cerberus was easy, though.
LoTR is great, especially the movies. I loved Return of the King! And I don't know who's with me here but Starcraft 2 is coming out!!!!!!!! Oh my god!! It looks so good. The graphics are amazing.
-"Hybrid units" are coming out that will count as land and air.
-Protoss Stalkers can do some teleporting
- New jungle Planet-Bel Shir
There's a video of the first gameplay of it on youtube.com and it looks amazing.
God, I hated Cerberus and that was just on normal status! Took me forever to beat him lol...
I just finished watching a couple episodes of the Golden Girls.. I love that show.. and then sifted through some of my old papers, for my senior thesis... finished one folder's worth... quite happy about that heh... now there's only three left to go
About Knights of the Old Republic... Is there really no other way I can get the game?? I don't want to get it if I don't like it.. that's the only problem I see with it... I did find a good copy of it on Amazon.com Used-Like New for 9.50... plus 3.99 for shipping, isn't tooooo bad, I guess. how much does it go for in the stores, anybody??
I'm considering getting the PS2 out of my luggage and hooking it up...and on the other hand I'm considering sorting through my second folder of papers... I've got way too many papers laying around.... I may also finish reading The Child That Books Built, or start looking through the Joseph Campbell literature that I picked up over the weekend... Got a few new ones to look at and stuff.. waiting for The Hero with a Thousand Faces to come in the mail though.
Anyway, a friend just launched me on a search.... So I should go do that..
Just kidding. I know you guys were agonizing in pain and despair every second that I wasn't there, and your souls are only half of what they were without me. That's okay, I'm here now, at least for the next week or so :D. How is everyone? Tell me what happened when I was gone. Anything super crazy awesome happen?
God, I hated Cerberus and that was just on normal status! Took me forever to beat him lol...

Well.. as for KH, I found the bosses to be exceptionally more difficult. But the regular enemies.. meh. Just reach the Coliseum and grind there for 5 hours. It's boring as hell but it helps.
As for KOTOR.. I bought my copy for $10 at the store. So.. yeah. But I DO recommend it. It uses the Star Wars d20 System, which is the same system used in D&D, for the most part. It's a great open-ended RPG.
Welcome back, Strongbad!! *huggles*
edit: I LOST THE MTGS TOURNAMENT I made it to the finals, and got my ass handed to me on a silver platter thanks to Snow White. I friggin' HATE COLDSNAP.
*Hugs**** to Alacar... you're still our champion here.... *hug hug hug** I understand you just lost the MTGS tournament, but why else do you hate Coldsnap? I understand, and remember, it was never your favorite set, but now after some time has passed, why don't you particularly enjoy it? I'm not its greatest fan either, but just asking your honest opinion...
And to Strongbad, a hearty welcome back hug goes out to you as well!
Ooh, about KOTOR.. perhaps I will buy that in the store, if I can find it.. where is it found, typically? game section of which store? Target, Wal-Mart, what? Just so I can find it fairly easily... and what are some of the other good PC games that I can look up that are good either RPGs or just games in general, I suppose... Also, what does RTS mean???
RTS = Real-Time Strategy. Games like Civilization, Warcraft, Heroes of Might & Magic, Age of Empires, etc. fall into this category.
KOTOR is a PC game, so.. try an electronics store or a game shop.
As for my unmitigated hatred of Coldsnap? It is very inclusive in its design. Snow is such a limited mechanic (or at least, what they printed of it) that it just aggrivates me to no end. Coldsnap is an insult to what Ice Age and Alliances were. I grew up learning to play thanks to Ice Age, and Coldsnap does absolutely nothing for me in regards of bringing that back. Not to mention Scrying Sheets being broken as hell.
Hmmm I've never heard of Heroes of Might & Magic... what's that one about??
Hmm, for KotOR... An electronics store... hmm not sure where I could find that.. maybe Circuit City? Hmm.....
And yes, I do know what you mean by Snow being a limited mechanic... eh, doesn't it fit in with some other things nowadays though?? Oooh..I can see how Scrying Sheets could screw you over.. I'm sorry my man.. *hug** but how about those Geek Mp3s? maybe that'd cheer you up
Well anyway Ive just came home, Im exhausted. I envy Sakura-chan for the ramen..Im freakin starvin.

Im kinda tired too. See you guys tomorrow.

What I have read in the last year;
Secret wars (reprint of the original Marvel series in Graphic novel form)
The Physics of Superheroes (a really good book on physics in relation to Comicbook heroes, written by james Kakalios)
Various comics, and even then have not read as much as I usually do.
On my desk at work I have the following waiting for me to read ;
Speaking of reading, has anyone read the Wheel of Time series? If so, what do you think about it?
Also, after reading Sakura's post, I must add comics to my childhood reading. I loved the X-men and Avengers back then.
@sakura: i like ramen too.
Love,
Cecilia

I know how you feel. I used to be the same. I still have a voracious appetite for books, but I take my time now to get everything, instead of speed reading like I used to.
I remember, so long ago, when I was 6, I read this alone. My dad had previously read it to me at age 5. I was so excited, I pulled down my leather-bound copy (which has gone missing, sadly) and read it through on my own. I was so proud of myself.
My helpdesk should you need me.

Nice job omna! *claps* Yeah thats definetly not an easy game to finish i remember ff1 being one of the hardest final fantasies ever made in my opinion. I am proud of you too.

As for Kingdom Hearts... I've beaten both, know all the tricks. It's just DOING it.

I honestly dunno what you mean there, Nai--I played it on Expert mode and while I agree that it is harder, it is not nearly as back-breaking hard as you say. The only thing that truly irritated me was the boss battles (Cerebus, I hate you)

Who else is psyched for SC2?
EDIT: SC2? what's that?

As for KOTOR.. I bought my copy for $10 at the store. So.. yeah. But I DO recommend it. It uses the Star Wars d20 System, which is the same system used in D&D, for the most part. It's a great open-ended RPG.
Welcome back, Strongbad!! *huggles*
edit: I LOST THE MTGS TOURNAMENT I made it to the finals, and got my ass handed to me on a silver platter thanks to Snow White. I friggin' HATE COLDSNAP.

KOTOR is a PC game, so.. try an electronics store or a game shop.
As for my unmitigated hatred of Coldsnap? It is very inclusive in its design. Snow is such a limited mechanic (or at least, what they printed of it) that it just aggrivates me to no end. Coldsnap is an insult to what Ice Age and Alliances were. I grew up learning to play thanks to Ice Age, and Coldsnap does absolutely nothing for me in regards of bringing that back. Not to mention Scrying Sheets being broken as hell.
