Just got back from FNM.... Thought I built a pretty good deck.... went 1-3. Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. I played a RW sliver deck... was intriguing...
EDIT: What tournament, Dreia? Did you actually go to FNM? And Kevin, congrats on ze job!!
Awwwww I forgot to wish everyone some good rest and health/wellness.
Omna, I'm essentially running a bowling tournament for the youth in the city I bowl in. There are 13 volunteers (including me) running it as workers. The oldest is myself, and the rest are 12-18 years old. The tournament has 52 bowling teams, 89 doubles pairs, and 178 singles entries. The bowlers are 3-20 years old. It spans over 7 shifts (Friday/tonight @ 6pm, and then 9am, noon, and 3pm tomorrow and Sunday). I've been involved with working the tournament since I was 10 or so.
To put it simply, the whole thing is getting messed up because the woman in charge (in title only ) has no clue what she is doing.
I would absolutely suck at FNM. I still don't completely know what I'm doing and only play to learn on MWS with Crimson. I still haven't gotten down the basics, if they even exist. It's complicated stuff.
So, we're watching the Eragon movie.
Oh. My. Goodness. This is the most unintentionally funny movie I've ever seen. There's not a single line of dialogue that isn't incredibly painful to hear. This may be the worst movie I've ever seen. It's at least in the bottom five. I mean, the book was plagued by awkward dialogue, and the movie was very faithful in that regard, but the horrifying editing was brand new.
Sorry folks, but I don't have screenshots for this one. That's for a very good reason, too. This isn't a standard game. In fact, it's more a chat program than anything. But I'll get into that in a second.
Let's see... We're going to date my first encounter with this 'game' to about... 1999-2000ish. This was back when the ISP "Juno" was a big deal. You remember that one? The free internet service provider that let you surf the net, but cut you off if too many paid subscribers wanted access? Yes, that's the one. In any case, they were advertising this cool program called "Active World", which was some sort of 'virtual reality' game where you could do tons of stuff like create buildings and play virtually with other people. I was intrigued, and it was free. So I downloaded it, and so began an obsession that lasted until my first year of high school (about five years ago).
So what is Active World, you ask? Simply put, it's a 3d, interactive screen put on top of a chat window. What does this mean to you, the player? It means an mIRC-like chatroom where you can 'see' who you are talking to (by way of avatars) and chat in an environment of your choosing and, perhaps, making.
Because of the nature of the 'game', I have to rate this a different way. So let's start the thing off.
Graphics. Back then, they were pretty darn good. In fact, if you go to this page, you can get an idea of what we're talking about. Not that first picture, though. For those of you unwilling to look at their page, imagine the graphical capability of old PS2 games and, in some cases, N64 games. It's a bit pixelated, the environment is made of copy/pasted objects. But, then again, this is what it was made FOR. YOU chose the object and created the environment. And since you could get user-created objects, the graphics were almost infinitely varied. By today's standards, the graphics aren't that awesome. Still, you have plenty to look at.
Sounds are a bit of a no-show. There are some ready-made special effects for the game, but the majority of the stuff is user-input. You can upload your own sfx to the server to add to your objects, be it a 'boing' sound or the newest U2 song.
There's no storyline to this game, because it's not really a game. Just a program like I said before. But if you're an RPer, there's plenty of variety.
Down to gameplay and mechanics. This is where the place really shines.
See, you have a number of 'Worlds' that you can go to. These worlds may be run by Active Worlds (such as the Alpha World), or they may be user-owned. Each generally has a theme and X amount of square-footage to work off of.
Those owned by the company generally have limited free space for users to play with. Most of the space is taken up by the company-produced surroundings, such as a cafe, a place to play virtual bingo, etc. User-owned worlds can be anything, be open to public, or may be private. I remember one was a pretty darn good replica of the Kokiri Villlage from Ocarina of Time.
And when I say 'owned', I mean that you actually bought server space from Active Worlds. While the game is free for 'tourists', you DO have to pay for a majority of the services. It's sad, but you can't do anything about it.
One of the major draws of the game is the 'building' of virtual homes and planets. The game designers, and users, have put up a host of different shapes, items, and 'skins' for those shapes/items for you to play with. You just open up the world editor, name the coordinates (usually right in front of you), and name the item. Then you can duplicate, rotate, whatever you want. After several hours of work, you probably will have a working house. Longer than that and you'll have a working world.
The game might remind you a lot of the currently renowned program "Second Life". As far as I'm aware, SL actually came from the Active Worlds code. I haven't actually checked Second Life out (though I have been meaning to), but they do sound remarkably similar.
One of my only issues with the game is the cost. See, if you don't pay a monthly fee, you are a 'Tourist'. You have only two choices in avatars for each world you can access (usually only Company worlds, and a male or female avatar), anything you build can be deleted by anyone else (and generally are wiped after a few days by the game), and most of the commands in the game are closed off. For a price per month (currently $7, says the site), you become a 'citizen'. You have a registered name, can use any avatar you want, anything you make is permanent unless you get rid of it, and a host of other things like locating friends and inter-world telegrams (like email) are opened to you.
You can also own a World, which used to be fairly inexpensive (around $60 a year for a decent sized one, which is the cost of a video game for your own server). Now it's around $200, which is out of my price range for something I would only have for fun.
So we're talking a virtual chat room, which is rather fun. I haven't touched the place in years, since they were really against Tourists a while ago and I wasn't interested in paying anymore. However, all things considered, it was a stepping stone for virtual games, and will continue to be in history there, somewhere.
If you ignore what has been said about Second Life, the sequel (or perhaps just code) of Alpha World, you'll notice it's actually rather cool. You can go to virtual shopping malls which act like Amazon.com, but actually give you an idea of what you are buying. They constantly have store reps there to 'talk' to you. Sure, you can't check sizes of that dress, but you probably can read a few pages of a good book.
I can't really rate this like I rate others, since it's only a chat program. But I'll give it an A for effort, though only a C for customer service and pricing.
So, we're watching the Eragon movie.
Oh. My. Goodness. This is the most unintentionally funny movie I've ever seen. There's not a single line of dialogue that isn't incredibly painful to hear. This may be the worst movie I've ever seen. OMG, Eragon was so aweful...how can a movie with Malcovich be so bad, how can he be edited and directed in a way that makes him so painful. He wasn't a villain because of his evil plot, he was a villain for stealing my 10 bux and giving me brain cancer for it.
Congrats on the job Kevin. You should have fun and be a lot happier. Plus, everyone could use a little spending money.
Pampered Cher has some fantastic overpriced items. My personal favorite being the pizza stone. Their apple crisp recipe is absolutely delicious, too.
In other news, there is supposed to be a lunar eclipse tomorrow night. It'll be best seen in Europe but can be seen in the U.S. if the sky is clear enough.
Today was fine, but the tournament is a total disaster due to two stupid people. I could rant for hours, but I'll spare you all. Poor Crimson already had to hear it. Sorry babe!
That's it for now.
~Dreia
Pizza stones, while expensive, are also amazingly handy, in my opinion.

Haha, maybe, but in a vacuum that was just a terrible movie. I mean, I've seen a lot of movies that I liked a lot, but that movie was just soooooo awkward. It was really mostly the dialogue, but the second half was just all sliced together.
Photon, pizza stones are genius in my opinion. Definitely worth the money and they last for a long long time, until ya drop something on them and break them. Metal tenderizer and pizza stones do not mix.
Nai, that was an interesting review. It sort of reminded me of some sort of Sims, but you created the world. I could be totally off on that.
Have a good one everybody. I won't be here most of the weekend until nighttime.

They also make wonderfully inappropriate frisbees.
Well, not that it is of any particular note, I think I am off to bed for the night. We've been watching some Chrono Crusade to wind down, but instead of winding down, it's just left me with a desire to play Shadow Hearts 2 and a strong desire to ***** slap Aion until he dies from it.

Kraj: I challenge your deck vs my Patriot Angels. Hoo-ah.
If I had the slightest clue how to make MWS do something other than confuse me, I'd totally be in on that. Probably not the best matchup for ya, though, bud.
Incidentally, I went 2-1 which is one win better than my inaugural attempt. I did face the expected Dralnu deck, but the build was so akward and unfocused that it didn't really stand a chance. I will say, though, that Faceless Butcher and Trickbind are quite an annoying combination. I also faced monoblack aggro, which really doesn't have teeth right now. Dauthi Slayers and Hyppies are nasty but they couldn't keep pace with my Cloaked Ledgewalkers and Hierarchs.
I got my ass handed to me by a BW discard control deck, though. Stupors and Shrieking Grotesques recurred by Whitemane Lions kept my hand size down despite my Harmonizes. Wrath wiped out my early weenies and Cruel Edict kept any of my fatties from doing anything. The only thing that gave me a fighting chance at all were my Grave-Shell Scarabs, but he only needed to fend them off for a couple turns before his Racks and Grotesques killed me. Brutal.
Still I'm happy with how the deck worked. Definitely some tweaks to be made, but it was fun to play.
Last, but certainly not least, I don't want any of the big guns in there like Krashbot tearing my personal creative works apart and making me want to go mental.

You know, not a damn thing in the previews for that movie interested me in the slightest. ...Now I wanna see it! While I'm at it I'll rent Showgirls...

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
If you want to see a bad movie, go watch X-men 3. WHOOOAAA! Bah-zing!
Seriously, shame on the guy who made the first 2, and then went to go make the Superman movie. For shame.
It was ok in terms of action, though, I'm probably gonna start downloading some anime tomorrow, and then perhaps watch it. I'm gonna go watch some tv and got to bed. Night everyone!
@Eragon: Yeah, I heard the acting and editting was really bad. I wonder how the book was.
@X-Men 3: The action was entertaining, but the plot just seemed kind of stilted and rushed, and a little disappointing, because it was so grim.
Pampered Chef: My mom had some stuff from that line, and it wasn't bad. She had a breadmaker and a pizza stone. I liked the stone.

Too late.
*sigh* I know.

Games like that (the one in the lower paragraph) are just awful. I feel for you. I hate facing discard, more than countering, I think. I love drawing cards, and having an empty hand is so unnerving.
*whew* That's a relief.
Is it inordinate or weird that I feel insecure about that? I mean, traditionally, a person's masculinity is what feels threatened, not one's femininity. Though, I guess I am an unusual case . . .
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Okay, X-Men III is a bit campy, but it mostly looks okay and it has its moments. Eragon is worst-movie-of-all-time material.
Which of the male actors is cute? The main character looks like the Crocodile Hunter, only twelve years old and dopey, and neither of the villians were what I would expect would be called cute. I'm assuming they're talking about whoever it was that played Brom?
Photon: My group of friends constantly insults each other too. Just not quite to that extreme yet ;).
FL: You can keep talking to Omna. The rules on sliver decks say that you can't talk to the person any more if it wins a tournement :p.
I'm home alone until Sunday night . I'm gonna have fun using the computer a lot. But I'm also going to a friends house later :/. Mixed blessings can be annoying.

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
Same here. I mean taking it in a week, not the prep. I'm assuming your taking it on March 10? Because that's when I'm taking it. It's really bad, because I only just remembered about it yesterday, and I was like, "Oh crap, I should probably do some prep for that at some point". Luckily, though, I just got back my ACT results yesterday, and I got a 33, so even if I do badly on the SAT, I still have something good to use for college. Anyway, good luck with the prep class, Evan, I know how much those suck :).
I am leaving for a track meet in just a few minutes, so I guess I'll see you guys later. Wish me luck!!
Only thing I hate about Saturdays is I have to get up an hour early for work. Grumble...ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz
Looks like a queit day here though, and Saturdays are short days.
How is everyone?
Oh, and while X3 was not as good as the first two I still really enjoyed it. Eragon has a cozy seat next to Batman and Robin, where they can sit together and spawn even more attrocious films. Bad movies are like rabbits.
I love how people easily forget that Eragon was a book written for children and that adult sensibilities are probably going to fly right over it ¬_¬;;
I liked the third X-Men movie, personally. I thought it was a little too fast-paced and could've done with either a fourth movie or at least another half hour of run time, but it was still entertaining. Especially for someone who's a Kitty Pride fan *ahem*. Although the actor they got to play Warren Worthington...was a failure. I honestly saw David Boreanaz playing either him or Colossus. Thank GOD they didn't get him for either role, though...I'd never hear or see the end of it from Josh.
Ya know, I would join the FCC, Kraj, but I have the same reservations about it as I do most other contests and such on MTGS. I don't want the "heavyweights" coming in and telling me how much I suck. Not so much because it'd hurt my feelings, but because I tend to hurt people who tell me I suck. And I've come to find that I don't really care how important anyone is in this community. If they need to be told off, I'll do it.
*Sigh* Not even moved in for a full two days and we already have popcorn and candy wrappers all around the computer desk. Oy.

What, is everyone on here a genius, or something? You, me, Nai, and it seems like someone else all are over 30 on the thing? Who else did that I don't know about? I find it odd because I had the highest ACT score in my graduating class of about a hundred some odd people, 32. My genious best friend that got perfect grades in everything got a 31 (but beat me on the SAT), and another one of my friends got a 32 because he aced the science part. It surprises me that there are so many of us concentrated in the coffeehouse.
Anyway, I'm at work (my parents') right now, about to go and get myself some lunch. I'll be open to play Precon League games from noon 'till three. I'm curious to see if this strategy I'm trying out will work, so PM me if you want to play.
Seems some things finished downloading this week, including Yukikaze and Blood+. Love Hina's at 97%. After that, Nana will start downloading, followed by Samurai Deeper Kyo and then Najica Blitz Tactics and Haibane Renmei.

I'm considered the average reader for it and i still hate it
Yes, but you are also decidely sardonic and a touch jaded already, you Shelkin Brownie.
(Plus, don't you like Naruto?)
Okay, so check out this stanky business- Thursday it was warm with rain and thunderstorms. Yesterday was temperate with crystal blue skies and all sorts of sun. This morning? Freaking snow. And not just pansy-ass flurries, we're taking big old honking gobs of the stuff pouring down and turning everything white.
Stupid Ohio weather. It's like dating a manic-depressive.

Oh, and yeah - the Eragon movie did suck. A lot.
I got a 33 on my ACT and I take my SAT a week from today.
Childrens book/movie or not...its still horrid. Just because a movie has a lower age demographic is not an excuse to make trash. A movie can be aimed at children and still be really well made. Narnia, the Harry Potter movies. Some examples.
On another note, I finally named the new rat.
I know its not too original, but I named her Nezumi. I just find it a very pretty name. Plus when she runs around all over I can say "Zumi Zumi Zumi!!"

He was talking about the book, I'm sure. We haven't seen the movie. Also, he's just in a really bad mood because he pulled a muscle in his lower back last night, and he spent all last night moaning and groaning in his sleep.
So wait... you got a rat, and named it "rat", then? Or, to be more technical, you named it "mouse", but the general idea is there.
Sidenote: I've always wanted to get a hamster and name it Potato. Just fyi.

Thats really awesome and cute. And really it only seems unorigional becasue we all play Magic here.
I need more blank CD's. Damn you Freaks and Geeks needing 5 for 13 episodes.

My helpdesk should you need me.
OMG, Eragon was so aweful...how can a movie with Malcovich be so bad, how can he be edited and directed in a way that makes him so painful. He wasn't a villain because of his evil plot, he was a villain for stealing my 10 bux and giving me brain cancer for it.
Pizza stones, while expensive, are also amazingly handy, in my opinion.
Wow, you really are critical tonight!
~Dreia
They also make wonderfully inappropriate frisbees.
Well, not that it is of any particular note, I think I am off to bed for the night. We've been watching some Chrono Crusade to wind down, but instead of winding down, it's just left me with a desire to play Shadow Hearts 2 and a strong desire to ***** slap Aion until he dies from it.
Too late.
Try the FCC!
Oh... nevermind then.
*whew* That's a relief.
Pampered Cher? What's that, Cher's garage sale as a retail outlet? Like, when she gets a new platinum nail buffer she'll sell off her solid gold one?
You know, not a damn thing in the previews for that movie interested me in the slightest. ...Now I wanna see it! While I'm at it I'll rent Showgirls...
Current New Favorite Person™: Mallory Archer
She knows why.
Windmills do not work that way!
*sigh* I know.
Games like that (the one in the lower paragraph) are just awful. I feel for you. I hate facing discard, more than countering, I think. I love drawing cards, and having an empty hand is so unnerving.
Is it inordinate or weird that I feel insecure about that? I mean, traditionally, a person's masculinity is what feels threatened, not one's femininity. Though, I guess I am an unusual case . . .
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel.
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.

Which of the male actors is cute? The main character looks like the Crocodile Hunter, only twelve years old and dopey, and neither of the villians were what I would expect would be called cute. I'm assuming they're talking about whoever it was that played Brom?
Well anyhow goodnight everyone! Have a great weekend as well! See you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
Love,
Cecilia
(maybe ill finish dragon quest 7 this weekend i doubt it though. ;))
@KoolKoal: That doesn't sound like a mixed blessing. Sounds like you've got quite the weekend ahead of yourself.
I got SAT prep soon, I take it in a week.

If you like sports or sports betting and you want a chance to win free money, you will love it.
Oh, and yeah - the Eragon movie did suck. A lot.
You need to relax, pup. You are WAAAAY too grouchy and touchy today.
I got a 33 on my ACT and I take my SAT a week from today.
Oh and I agree. Eragon did suck.
Just fyi.
ZUMI!ZUMI!ZUMI!
Thats really awesome and cute. And really it only seems unorigional becasue we all play Magic here.
I need more blank CD's. Damn you Freaks and Geeks needing 5 for 13 episodes.
