@Nem: If you don't mind my asking, what on earth did you do to deserve that?
You know that snowstorm I mentioned a couple of posts back? It's kind of outside the building right now. I think there're about 2-3 inches already. Yikes. I'm still gonna stick it out and leave at 4pm, but I'm gonna have to move at a dead crawl, or risk sliding off the road. I hope I make it home alright.
@shin: Hello shin! Yeah that was a really good game last night the 2nd game could of easily went either way imo. I was glad i was able to keep up for most of the match even when you armageddon me the first time when I had only the swords of fire and ice and meddling mage(naming survival) in play. ;)While you have that crucible of worlds and zuran orb in play to keep recurring lands and keep gaining life. I know i should've sideboarded in those 4 force of wills then it would've even been a better game and still could went either way but oh well.
Well I am sure your geddon survival deck has alot of potential to do really well in the legacy format.
Lets first talk about the most popular 3 decks of the legacy format.
Against goblins: This could be a problematic matchup for you if you can't get survival of the fittest in play in the first couple of turns and bring out creatures as fast as possible like you did in game 1 against me. Goblins can usually outrun any other non-goblin creature deck in its tracks via aether vial, goblin lackey, goblin ringleader, and goblin warchief. I just worry about the goblin matchup the most out of the 3 considering goblins can always find a way to do 30-40 damage in one turn. Also their wasteland/port lock can also cause huge problems unless you draw a crucible and mox diamonds in the first begining turns of the match. However with correct sideboarding cards I am sure the match can highly be in your favor.
Against threshold: This can be a easy match for you or a hard one. For starters lets start out with the easy you can play out creatures alot faster then threshold can. Your creatures also are usually bigger and better in a one on one standpoint like the rootwallas and exalted angels. As long as you can resolve the survival and as long as the enchantment doesn't get pithing needled you should be able to win the match with ease. You also have armageddon which tends to hurt the 18 land manabase of threshold quite alot.
Now let me talk about the hard aspect of the threshold match for you. I would be honest and say the first 2-3 turns of this match will most likely determine the match. Threshold can be one of those decks that can probably outplay any other deck in the field especially in the first 3 turns. Why you ask? Its because of the dazes, force of wills, and counter spells also their incredible fast clock with cantrips + nimble mongoose, meddling mages, and werebears. However I am sure you still will have a good game versus threshold overall especially after boarding.
Against Solidarity: Especially afterboarding you have orim's chant and rule of law to take care of their lightning fast combo. You also have potential to play rule of law a turn earlier via mox diamonds which will be a great leeway for you to win against the likes of high tide. I would however watch out for the remands if I were you. Remands basically makes solidarity a more hate resistent deck which is one of the reasons on why its a more consistent deck then without remand. The great side to this matchup though is your able to get out creatures lightning quick via the madness mechanic and survival of the fittest. Providing a lightning quick clock can often bring the solidarity player to his/her knees. Your meddling mages can also make quick work of solidarity as well.
Other then those top 3 I don't think you will have any trouble versus the rest of the field it seems like the deck you created should do fine for the most part. Probably will depend alot on playskill though since survival of the fittest decks generally need alot of playskill to get it far in any big tournament event.
Although any black splash deck with hymn to tourach, duresses, cabal therapy, and extirpates could give you trouble though but you still have the chance to win though considering with the very high creature count you have in your survival deck. I hope i helped some shin.
Thats very nice of you to say shin. I am sure if you play legacy more you could be an amazing player as well! Well see you around and we can playtest more tonight if you want Ill play goblins and threshold.
*hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
Love,
Cecilia
Thanks for the rundown Cecilia, helps alot. I thought alot of that out already actually. Threshold is the only match I am unsure of.
@Kraj, Arguas - I agree with Kraj, Transgression is the best name I've heard yet. It has the whole "crossing lines that shouldn't be crossed" vibe while still sounding more or less like a set name.
This week is going to be -crazy-. I don't know if it's come up, but I'm part of a computer science research group that's been working for about a year to try to {BORING NETWORK THEORY BABBLE GOES HERE}. Anyway, we're trying to get everything we've done into publishible form. By this Monday. Yeah, so not happening, but still, we're going to do our best.
Your welcome shin! Well thats good that you have been thinking about those very important matchups. I am very glad that you been doing that it shows that your dedicated to play in legacy. I always like to see new people get in the format makes the format alot more fun. I have no doubt you have quite alot of potential to be an amazing player in legacy once you get more experience by playing in the format. You could basically apply the same cards that you just named to the threshold matchup as well from goblins.
Well I am going to take off for awhile. See you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
More skippage of Magic talk. I'll get into it eventually.
After transferring almost 10 gigs of music off my computer to my hard drive, plus having three new complete discographies to listen to, I have to let iTunes re-library all of the items, plus the new ones. This could take HOURS. It didn't, but it could have. Now I have to go and... Oh god... I have doubles of all songs. I feel... Ugh. Going to go shoot my computer now.
But seriously though...
Alacar: Reading that entry (especially the bit about me?) gave me warm fuzzies. Aw...
That's the nicest blog post ever! I'll be sure to make myslef more avilable for some chat time
And wow did Cecilia ever just lay the legacy smackdown! I don't know a lot about it, but she sure as heck just proved she does.
Thanks kraj! I really like helping people get into the format makes the format more diverse and more fun. Its about time someone brings back survival into the format I was starting to get really bored with threshold, gobins, and/or solidarity appearing in the top 8 at literally every legacy tournament which has been going on for more then a year now.
Here's something I'm not used to - this morning I was called and told not to come into work because it was too cold outside.
Any of you remember that feeling when you first joined MTGS, and felt weird about posting in different threads, or was nervous joining in on any debates (well, I remember teh latter, anyway).
That's how I've felt lately, and am not sure why.

Regarding "Drama" - I don't want to burst open an old would of a conversation, so ignore this if the topic is closed.
While conflict with others is a part of everyone's life and working out conflict is, I agree, better than letting it roil inside, but a lot of "drama" that occurs in everyone's lives (I am not exempt by any means) is caused by three things -
I liked this post, Joyd, it was very insightful and constructive.

@girlfriends: I just want to say that you have to be very careful spending too much time with your girlfriend or boyfriend. Although I understand that that is kind of the point of having one, is to spend time with him/her, you have to remember that it can be hard for all the rest of your friends if you just ditch them for someone else. That has happened numerous times to be, and every time it hurt my feelings that my good friend would just stop hanging out with me that easily. Yeah, so I don't know the whole situation, but that's my 2 cents on the subject.
Strongbad makes a good point - this is something to remember. It seems to be more common during the beginning of a relationship.
Oh, now I understand why you like my custom :-). It's actually from H*R, but it's pretty funny on its own also.
Really? That's rich.

Anyways, I almost got arrested today, because my teacher thinks im a terrorist (long story, but ended up with me getting a long speech with admins thinking i could blow up the school with soda bottles or become the next Unabomer).
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
Of the Twilight Princess bosses/dungeons... I loved the Goron Mines, Temple of Time, the Colosseum (Gerudo Valley), the Sky City, and Hyrule Castle. Of the bosses... The one in the Temple of Time, the Colosseum, the Sky City, and Ganondorf, of course. All were really fun to play against.
Ganondorf, as it has been said, was the greatest Legend of Zelda battle to date, methinks. It was just epic as hell. Especially the horseback bits, and the sword battle.
I've got to say, though, that the Wind Waker sword battle with Ganondorf was awesome too.
Howdy folks..... Ninja_Pirate you just got put on the Casual List... For now, anyway... stick around a bit longer and just keep postin' like you usually do and you'll get Regulars status in nooo time
I'm really wishing Arguas luck with his big project thing that's due today/tonight...
I'm excited about Friday night, its going to be a nice relaxing evening- a friend of mine is having a birthday party and Ryan and I are going to go.. its gonna be called a "Plaid Tie Party" with wine-and-cheese tasting! Woohoo! Found out that my roommate and her boyfriend are going, in addition to me and Ryan, so that's going to be a lot of fun!
Well anyways I want to get some work done before my meeting tonight at around 7, so I'll go do that now I think
Thanks for the cool entry Alacar, and I'll post a bit more later
Its about time someone brings back survival into the format I was starting to get really bored with threshold, gobins, and/or solidarity appearing in the top 8 at literally every legacy tournament which has been going on for more then a year now.
This kinda makes me curious... how often does a new archetype emerge in legacy? It seems that it would be very hard for anything other than a variation on an existing deck to break in. Even the pure evil of affinity apparently didn't pull it off.

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
I'd say my favorite LoZ temple was the Water Temple. Mainly, because everyone hates it. Its not that difficult once you get the hang of it. And, I love water!
@Magic: I've become really disinterested in it lately. Heck, I've stopped reading the articles on Wizard's site, which I used to do almost everyday.
Mamelon: I do get breaks, but my breaks usually consist of me doing stuff other than being on this site...as for why I usually have time whenever something big happens to post here, I honestly dont know.
And after searching four stores for it, I did pick up FF6 for GBA today (but don't feel like playing it now, just had some coupons that expire on the weekend i felt compelled to actually use).
Ok, now for the whole reason why people think im a terrorist (and by people I mean my teacher and one of the school administrators).
The new semester started off well a few weeks ago. I sort of ignored the first day, just anxious to see people who I know in my classes, get to know those who I dont, etc. Anything but doing actual work. On the first night of my modern US History class (MUSH for short), we were given a sheet to fill out about ourselves, like pretty much a short life story. I sort of saw this assignment as complete BS (and still do to be honest), and wrote the first things that came to mind. Then we get to one question. It said "what are three hobbies/things you do with your friends?". Of course, I put down programming and video games, the first two hobbies that come to mind (looking back im surprised i didn't actually write magic/cards.), and then while doing this asked my friend what are things we do together frequently besides video games (not sure why i asked, i guess i really didnt feel like thinking this day. So he replys "well, we explode soda cans and bottles". I then start writing the answer down, and get distracted after "Exploding things such as ". Being the last question, I never bothered to check to see if I actually finished the sheet, and I turned it in.
Flash forward to today. I am sitting in first period class (Programming 2), and the teacher tells me to go to the office in the other building after class. Thinking it was just normal course selection for next year (well...it was, after this whole first incident), I didnt even think that it could be possibly something else.
I make it to the office, and to my surprise when I walk in, my counseler, teacher, and two administrators are all there waiting for me. Now I sort of get a bit...confused/concerned? Then they start explaining everything.
"Russ, we have a problem with one of your so called "hobbies"".
I am completly confused and ask to see the paper, where I notice that my statement is infact, incomplete, and they took it as "exploding stuff such as M80s and C4s in the school".
"****!" is all that is going through my mind.
I then explain myself, and say that I meant to put soda bottles down, but never finished my statement, and that I have no intention to actually blow stuff up inside the school, just enjoy occassionally throwing a bottle at the ground and/or hitting full cans (of soda, mind you) with a baseball bat for the hell of it.
They bought it, and said that they apologize for the problem, and say they will forget about it, and I pretty much did as well, but my history teacher later today in class kept staring at me with the look that sort of meant ("You are on a tight rope, watch yourself")...which I am not sure how to interpret.
@Alacar/NP/TP: Oh! I almost forgot about that. Yeah, the City In The Sky ranks high too. Especially 'cause it makes me feel like Spiderman. Of the dungeon bosses, I also think Argorock's the best fun to fight. Morpheel's second form is awesome too. Ganondorf, one on one, is, of course, the best battle overall.
The blog is great! But, *sniff*, I'm not there! Ah well, as I said in the blog, I am on and off here.
@NP: Well, yes and no. It wasn't locked, but it was right outside my window of my house, in a secluded estate, behind a tree, down a driveway, at 9 pm ish.
'Fox.
Yes I agree nothing can compare to the epic ending battle of Ocarina, but then again, that game was beautiful from start to finish. Even the early dungeons were hard. I love LoZ <33
Howdy folks..... Ninja_Pirate you just got put on the Casual List... For now, anyway... stick around a bit longer and just keep postin' like you usually do and you'll get Regulars status in nooo time
Thank you love. I just wasn't even on that list before and honestly felt a little left out is all. *totally non-romantic hug and kiss*
@shin: I am going to be honest i really like your survival geddon deck it reminds me of the good old days when legacy was actually alot more diverse. I mean you will see landstill wining a big tournament one week then like 2-3 weeks later you would see ATS or UG madness winning the other tournament. Thats probably one of the reasons why i stopped playing competitively because all you would see in major tournaments is threshold, goblins, and solidarity just dominating and filling up the top 8 lists. So yeah i am very glad you revived an old powerful deck idea back into the format.
@Kraj: Yeah it doesnt happen that often but I DID see a affinity deck make top 4 out of 108 players at the mana leak open and its one of those recent big legacy events too. Quite a few people don't realize its actually the player that's playing the deck that matters and NOT the actual deck itself. Just like with BW homebrew pioneered by Chris Pikula himself he basically almost won the GP Philly with more then 400 players. While when other people play with his exact deck they only would make the 2nd day and appear in the top 50-100 at the GP in lille which happened shortly after GP philly ended.
See you all soon! *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
Love,
Cecilia
EVERYBODY HELP ALACAR HE'S GOING TO THE DENTIST AHHHHHHH!!!! EVERYBODY PRAY FOR HIM TOO!
@Cecilia: I've been trying to get into Legacy, just too dang expensive :(. I do know about it though and I agree that the format has just been getting way too bland, kinda like when RAfinnity was all that there was in Standard 3 years ago. Magic gets that way sometimes, just chin up. I'm sure something will change soon enough.
not a problem, Evan *Tight hug back!** I can definitely sympathize with feeling left out
Did you ever open that box of Urza's Saga, btw??
And howdy Kevin, Crimson, and Shin'!
I just got suckered into a nice long convo w/ my roomie-- she kind of disappeared off with her boyfriend for a while, so I didn't have much of a chance to talk to her until today.. So I'm a bit behind on the deadline I set for myself... So I really should get back into working on that... since I want to get some actual cleaning done around here tonight.. the room's an absolute mess and laundry needs to be done...
Help me focus?? Seriously, I am sooo bad at focusing!
EDIT: Will be back around The Magic Hour (6pm EST)
I am all about Rogue decks and diverse choices. Legacy has too many cards available to be so limited. I honestly think in general Legacy players are either just lazy, or are overloaded with "too many choices" syndrome. It isn't like Vintage, because in Legacy half the Staples are banned, and loads of cards which are practically useless in Vintage are suddenly playable. Legacy actually has a greater card pool than Vintage thanks to the lack of Power.
Oolong has a very complex and delectable flavor that I don't taste often. It's really hard for me to pick a tea that is my favorite, though, since they all have so many good things going for them.
@Alacar: Here's hoping you fare well at the dentist!

My favorite in Legend of Zelda (of any of the legend of zelda games really) was level 4 in the second go around of the original NES game. (You could beat the game and start over with all the levels and weapons moved around or you could just type your name as Zelda and start in the second phase.)
Level 4 definately... and Chiron. Get the master sword in Chiron....and the boomerang.... -_- I'll stop.

Goblins: Maindeck 2x False Prophet, 3x Swords to Plowshares, 1x Solitary Confinement. Adding a Paralax Wave, should have had that in there before but forgot it. It is awesome with Eternal Witness anyways. Sideboard adds 3x Orim's Chant.
Solidarity: Maindeck Solitary Confinement w/ 3x Squee, Goblin Nabob. 3x Survival and 4x Enlightened Tutor, 2x Meddling Mage and 3x Living Wish (extra Meddling Mage and Squee in side) make game one seriously in my favor. After side, the mentioned Chants and Rule of Laws mess them up even more.
Either way, making some tweaks.
