Happy birthday, gerg. And hello again, TheInfamousBearAssassin! It's nice to see both you and erimir in here. I always enjoy your presence in Debate, and that goes for the both of you.
@Soulforce: checked out the site, seemed interesting. I'm for anything that might help bridge the gap that exists between gender-atypical people (by which I mean to include homosexual, bisexual, transgender, and otherwise intersexed people) with religious groups. Atypical gender and sexual characteristics tend to conflict ideologically with the rigid and often simply idealistic notions that religious systems usually seem to have concerning sex and gender, but I think this friction is basically unnecessary, and hope that eventually it will be ameliorated altogether.

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
I played Magic for the first time in like 3 months on Friday. It was so weird. I played with a deck I call Brains! and it did alot better than I thought it would. I put a bunch of Black rares I have in a deck with Zombies for the creature base and called it done. *lol* Curse of The Cabal is pretty damned funny. I lost bad to Goblinstorm but won my other games. I made 2 people scoop after I Persecuted away their monocolored hand away. Monocolors are making a comeback in my meta and so maining Persecute actually worked for me. I'm sad that Mirri isn't a Zombie. But she's a Vamp and Vamps are cool with Zombies. If there were more Eyes I'd make a Beholder deck. I've missed Magic more than I thought. Yu-Gi-Oh's new banned list sorta makes my deck impotent and so I'm just going to gather materials for a deck based off creatures from the set after the next set, which is out next week. So I have 3 months from next week of pure Magic playage and pure Yu-Gi-Oh deck buildage. My current deck is still pretty good but then again about 90% of all Yu-Gi-Oh players in my town stink. There are alot of good Magic players but many don't like playing Standard. The furthest back I go in Magic is Extended and these guys play Vintage and Legacy. It seems like all those older decktypes rely on counters and I absolutely hate counters. My best friend and I once had an argument about which was better to play against: counters or LD. I said LD because there's no one side mass land skill so I couldn't possibly destroy all his lands. He said that he can't possibly counter every spells and that LD prevents you from playing spells. This argument came about because he'd been mana screwed for several turns, finally drew and played a Dimir Aqueduct, and then I played Reap and Sow(entwined of course) on it. I knew he had counters in the deck and was just trying to hamper his ability to stop any of my spells. It turned out he only had 5 counter and I had only 6 LD(3 Reap and Sow and 3 Creeping Mold) but we ended up not speaking to each other for 3 months.
m3h. I have to go make my brother his lunch now. His Majesty, Troy I, has requested tacos and the Queen Mama hath granted his request.
Grand Prix Dallas was smashing. Just ... smashing Since I didn't play anything but mental magic I can't comment on the gaming outside of that.
I know they had almost 750 people (that played) but there was well more than that in the room.
It was awesome. I got to meet so many people (and didn't realize I was meeting a pro magic player until after someone else told me.)
Lessee. I got to the GP around 11 AM. I greeted as many people as I knew as I walked past scads of crowds of people. I finally sat down with my friend Adam and played some DC10 Mental Magic. That's when I met Olivier and Antoine Ruel and Guillaume Wafo-Tapa. They had sat down while the first three rounds of byes passed playtesting (balancing act). I only spoke to them because they were all speaking french and I guess I hadn't realized how many people would be coming out to Dallas for this thing. So interest piqued I introduced myself and got their names. Cool stuff. Nice people.
I met Julien Nuijten and I think the first thing I said to him was "My friends thought it would be funny if I came over here and told you the only dutch I know which is...." and so I did. Heh. He laughed and then I walked away after he told me how to pronounce it correctly lol.
This kid Kendall was playing with someone so I sat down next to him and started chatting (it was a casual game. You could tell because there was no way Kendall had made it to the end of Day 1.) His opponent's name was Yoshihiko Okazaki. Man I'm glad he's good humored. I guess it's kinda my fault because I asked him to teach me some japanese. Kendall, and eventually my friend Sean, decided to start asking him how to say some pretty dumb things. So basically all I learned was, "Nice to meet you." and then a slew of things on the level of "I'm going to kill you in your sleep, ugly prostitute."
But! and I know Mikey would approve, I learned the most important thing I could in Japanese. "You're cute. Let's have the sex!" and variations on things to "Suck". Yoshihiko was hilarious. (Oh, and he had the most awesome pair of pants! I wish I had a picture of them, you all would have loved them. Well, some of you would.)
I finally wandered out of there around 12:40AM. It was a LONG Day but I met some awesome people (one in particular was amazing and not even a pro magic player.)
Day 2 got there around Noon. They had a PTQ and a JSS event and the top 8 played.
I watched a lot of drafts and draft matches go down. I got to see Neil Reeves team draft and he signed my pro player card. I got to meat Billy Moreno and just had a whole lot of fun. Is it sad that I'm that excited about this weekend?
This doesn't pertain to many people. But there were two games back to back that I just really enjoyed. So here's basically the breakdown of the games.
I was playing against my friend Caleb. I called firsties with no joust and we played for about 20 minutes. I drew a 4UU and rather than cast Opportunity I decided to test him out a little. I cast it as Upheaval and then laid a Molten Slagheap as a Library of Alexandria, discarded a card for the end of turn and said go.
I started drawing cards with the library and kept countering/destroying the things he played. Eventually he had out a Mishra's Workshop and a Weatherseed Totem but he was tapped out other than that. At this point he had 6 lands on the board again. I was at 15 from a swing from that totem.
Well I dunno why I did what I did next, but I am glad I did. I played Bubbling Muck and let all my lands tap for an extra black mana. Then I cast Peregrine Drake floating some mana. Then I cast Sakashima, the Impostor untapping 5 more lands and floating even more mana. Then I cast Cloudstone Curio I played an Izzet Guildmage and bounced my Sakashima. Then I recast it as Turnabout and started fresh. I played Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII and tapped it to make a token. I bounced my Peregrine Drake, tapped two lands, and then bounced them to my hand to play Gush. At this point I had 12 mana floating with just my Library untapped. I decided to go a little crazy. I played Eladamri's Call and searched for Deep-Sea Kraken. With the remaining 10 mana played Myojin of Seeing Winds and popped the counter to draw 9 cards. At first I was going to pass the turn and discard down to 7 but Caleb said, "Pass the turn? You'll have to discard. You'll live next turn though."
So obviously I had to win this turn or die next turn -_-.
So I won. I removed a 2G card from my hand as an Elvish Spirit Guide and used it and my library to play Summer Bloom. I Dropped 3 more lands in play. And with the new grip I played High Tide and Heartbeat of Spring. After that I played Time Spiral and he scooped. I had access to over 22 mana and a full grip so it was just a matter of finding a 2BB spell or just finding a way to kill him with burn spells. Before we shuffled he showed me the cards in his hand. He was going to Price of Progress the next turn and Fireblast to finish me off.
Game 2, a lot shorter. He went first turn Exploration (since fastbond is banned in this format.) and laid a second land. My turn 1 I played Simplify to get rid of the Enchantment. Next he played Crucible of Worlds which was a nice touch if you ask me. I forgot how good it was in this format. And if he's up to shenanigans I'm gonna try to get in some of my own. I played Copy Artifact and played a card from my yard as a land. I played Jilt on a Plague Sliver and kicked it to kill his Eternal Witness Eventually I played Summer Bloom and played three cards from my yard. Then I played Azusa and played two more lands from my yard. I was happy to use his Crucible against him... until he played Price of Progress :(. I was at 20 but with 11 lands it was lethal damage. I wish I had one more mana open. In my hand I had a GW so I could have gained 7 life, lived, and killed him next turn.
Gr.
The next game he played Price of Progress but this time I was ready with Honorable Passage
Happy B-Day Gerg! It's belated, but that's the best flavor of
And let me also say welcome TIBA! Let me mix you a drink. I feel I may have slightly better chances trying to argue with a sedated bear assassin
Anyways...
YAY! I AM FINALLY OVER MY STUPID SICKNESS!!(for the most part) Go go antibiotics!
I played Magic for the first time in like 3 months on Friday. It was so weird.
I know the feeling. I threw together a random u/r madness deck together on friday and played it. I lost alot at first, but got the rhythm back and started doing better later on.
@ Guild Wars: I've owned this game for a while now, and decided to give it a go. I went and got nightfall and factions and tried it out. The game is a blast, but I don't know if I'll be able to commit enough for hardcore pvp. I'm torn between playing my mesmer/necro or my dervish/doesn'treallymattercausei'madervishanddon'thaveroomfornon-dervishstuff.
@blue: I absolutely LOVE mental magic, me and my friends played it for hours as we drank ourselves into a stupor on saturday.

I U Dio GAYMERS, the cause of, and solution to, all life's problems.
On the Magic note -- may have mentioned this, but I'm interested in playing again. However, I don't want to go even remotely past Casual; basically, my personal restrictions would be [a] Commons Only!, [b] Type II Only!, and [c] One Deck Only! ... sorta... and this said, I'm thinking that my safest or easiest bet would be a straight up Burn / Direct Damage deck of some sort. Mono-Red? ... but I'm not even remotely close to being informed on today's metagame (in any area). Any ideas?
That said... blue... ya "spoilers" made me re-click almost every Magic card you mention. yeah, apparently, I haven't played in a while, and even my memory has been shot further. Oy!
-------
On the news of the friend -- well, no answers or hints or information or anything . . . however, did find out a co-worker is bisexual. Importance? Well, I usually provide playful flirts or jest taps and whatnot (if I'm "acting" it, I exaggerate it), and for a very very rare couple of folk that I've actually had semi-bonding with, we have actual 'arms over shoulders' or even a hug.
*Note: I tend to be extra cautious about that whole "sexual harassment" thing, so I literally don't even joke or anything unless it is actually invited or acted upon first, etc. Reaction versus anything.*
... well, this particular guy reached said "hug status," and over a conversation, he whispered to me something about being halfway out of the closet? And confused, he said: "There's a reason why I'm -very- comfortable with ya touching and holding me." Then a conversation later, basically told me some things, etc., and . . . yeah. @_@
-------
Been using mySpace a bit more lately as well; now that I've touched up my page, I'm actually gettin' some responses and new adds. Which is kinda nice? But I guess I just wanted the attention. I admit it!
On a related note (sorta?) -- wanna go to Vans Warped Tour; both Bad Religion and Coheed & Cambria will be there. Date for mine would probably be July 1st, for San Francisco, CA. Doubt I could arrange a subsequent meet / hang-out / get-together with anyone here, but figured I'd throw out the info and try.

Trying to get a raise at work. I can't really expand on this, 'cause I've never really been in this situation before. Essentially, I made minimum wage, and then got a raise last year -- this year, they raised minimum wage for the state to (just about) my current wage... without raising mine? ... so even after 1 yr. 9 mo., I once again make minimum wage. Am I justified in any manner to request a raise, on these grounds alone?
... or should I go with the "here's why I deserve a raise," and expose a lot of my lazy arse co-workers with actual photographs / evidence? (And I'd only do this, 'cause this laziness has made it a PAIN for me, more than often, at work -- since I'm 98% of the time, in charge of all 'closing duties' and stuff.)
Or should I be on a constant attempt for a new job?
-------
I'm thinking that maybe MUSIC is [not] what I want to do for a living / career / etc. So now, I don't know why I'm going to college. Is there anything at all I can get without specializing, that will help me along the road of life? Or should I just stick it out till a Bachelor's Degree, and then go back and find something else? ... it really sucks to debate this, three (almost four) years into college... but so far, I'm down almost $2k, and haven't excelled in almost anything...

Sorry for turning this into a LiveJournal entry! >_<
Well, Nevermore, it sounds like your work buddy is either looking for a comrade to discuss gay issues with, or he's got the hots for ya (I'm leaning toward the latter).
As far as the raise, I don't think you're out of line in asking. I'd suggest focusing on your tenure and what you do well rather than pointing out why everyone else sucks.

I like LJ. You have one?
As far as the raise goes: how long have you been working there? almost two years, i think you said. I don't think you'd be out of line in asking for a raise. I wouldn't pull the "LOL MY COWORKERS SUCK" card right away...but it IS worth mentioning, if you feel like they're not doing their share. Good luck with that!
As far as college: it's okay. I mean, you're further in college than I am [i'm in second semester of my freshman year. :p], but I have NO clue at all what to major in. I was a theater major. but i dropped it. You could always go to the advising center at your college.
In other news, I ****ing hate dorm life.

Thanks for the replies; yeah, I'll probably look to talk with the Store Team Lead ("head honcho"?) about it in a week or two's time. I'm currently also up for promotion / transfer to either a Cash Office Specialist (also read as: part manager) or to 'Protection Services' (also read as: security that stands around for hours on end and makes more than me). Or something like that; just waiting for the appropriate interviews...

I wish I lived in a dorm, or at least, away from here, or at least... on my own, in some sense of the word? It's one thing, to clean up an apartment by yourself, it's another to know none of the mess is actually yours.

And yet you want to live in a dorm?
I lived in a dorm. It was the grossest experience of my life, and I'm not even overly concerned about cleaning. It was like living in a sewer with nightly keggers.

I meant a catholic dorm. 'Cause then all I gotta watch out for are the--
*zing*
Something about independance, I guess. That, and I don't know, maybe the dorm circumstances are different; I recall being to a friend's who had separate rooms for everyone, and the mess was everywhere except in his room. I don't know if that varies from a normal dorm.
Hah. I don't think I could live in a dorm. I could barely live with my family and roommates. Dunno how I'd fare sharing a room with someone.
Nevermore: I quit magic a few weeks back but the Grand Prix stirred some emotion in me. I met so many cool people that play magic differently than the people around here (some of which get paid to play magic.) Kinda wanna play but .... fighting it so hard!
Epock: Yeah I love mental magic. It's the only thing I usually play. (This week though I did draft a little but it was for a good cause!) Not enough people I know play it. And mostly because they're competitive and don't play it to have fun. So the entire game is lost on them. (They don't want to play cuz I win a lot)
Help has come in the form of a bit of basic algebra. I feel that it'll shed some light on your problem here.
Basically:
S + T = W
...S in this case stands for 'spam' and the T stands for 'light trolling'. And the W? That stands for 'Warning'. I love math. -- {mikeyG}

Cool, do you care if I add you? i would be inaliel, on LJ. I'd link you, but it's friends-only, so that doesn't get you anywhere, haha.
Just out of curiosity, where do you work?
Dorm life....is interesting. Mikey is right, it's pretty much a sewer [see the girls' bathroom on this floor for reference, all the shower drains backed up, water is everywhere] with nightly keggers. Except here at Parkside, no one bothers with the kegs, they just drink cans and bottles. Usually Miller Lite, but you can tell when they're short on cash, then they get the cheaper stuff.
My roommate'll be trashed later...she went to the liquor store a few minutes ago. I find it interesting that the store sells liquor to minors...here in Kenosha, they seem to police that quite strictly...

I owe a lot of good memories to living in a dorm. If it weren't for my dorm life freshman year, I wouldn't have met the three people who have remained my closest friends for years. And even if I had met them, I never would have bonded with them like you can when you're living with someone or right across the hall from them.
Plus there's crazy stories. Like the time there was a bat flying back and forth down the top floor hall and one guy went and got a tennis racket to hit it with. After several tries and certainty his aim was dead on, he noticed the racket had no strings...
Then there was the guy on the 4th floor who would blast Celine Dion's "It's All coming Back to Me Now" every single day so loud the entire dorm heard it.
Or the time my roomate leapt out of our room screaming manically and brandishing a plastic knife without realizing the people at the door were pre-freshman touring with their parents.
Etc., etc.
But on the other hand, you've got the times where drunken jackasses pull the fire alarm in the middle of the night. Every weekend. In the winter.
And the trogladytes whose idea of a joke is hurling feces at someone's door.
So yeah... you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there ya have...

Yeah. I don't mind my dorm, but then again, the dorm I live in isn't that bad, as it is mostly upperclassmen. That, and I have a single. That, and it isn't the traditional style of dorm, and I only have to share a bathroom with two other people.

I was trying to quit as in not playing nor collecting. But Monday there was this pro player at the comic book store and I couldn't help but be in a draft with him and then afterward a team draft. It was so much fun and he was such a cool guy that it makes me want to be a better player just so I can hang out with him again at other events.

Yeah, I used to detest MySpace in high school, but I'm just starting to use it again. Without all the idiots and politics, it really just acts as a forum between friends.
Something about independance, I guess.
Yep, that's what I'm eagerly awaiting. Granted, I could get an appartment now, but what's the point? I'd just be broke all the time with no way to fund my hobbies, credit card bill, or savings for school.
And mostly because they're competitive and don't play it to have fun. So the entire game is lost on them. (They don't want to play cuz I win a lot)
tru dat. Nothing beats playing a random Unyaro Bee Sting for the win after bashing with your Pygmy Hippo enchanted with a Zephid's Embrace. Granted, those three cards could have been played better (i.e. Storm Seaker), but style is more important. Like when last week I pulled off a Dragonstorm on turn one and popped out one each of the legendary dragons from kamigawa.
here in Kenosha, they seem to police that quite strictly...

Lucky....i have to share a bathroom with 10 or so other girls. You'd think that since we're girls, the bathroom would be pretty decent, right? WRONG. WRONG WRONG WRONG. Our bathroom is worse than the guys' at the moment, because our shower drains backed up. Gross. My dorm isn't TOO bad, but i unfortunately got stuck on the "party floor". and i don't party. Next year, though, I'm moving up to the substance-free floor.

* Leilani cracks up
Wow. That is....just...wow. We had some pre-freshmen come tour our hall...which is amusing, because our hall looks like the ghetto parts of cities...trash everywhere, "graffitti" [dry erase marker] on the doors...Oh, and let's not forget the semi-convienent pile of puke outside our RA's door.
There was the one night the boy next door was so drunk that he dropped his pants and walked around the hallway pissing...the time my roommate was so drunk she fell out of bed before she even got in it....AND the time she puked in a garbage can...some kid flipped [he was also drunk] out, 'cause his roommate was a neat-freak...so my roommate dumped the puke out in the hallway.
the hallway really hasn't smelled the same since, and that happened the third or fourth week of school.
that's just the tame end of things! haha
and now i'm going to go find a snack.

I went to colleges that didn't require me to leave home. I know it sounds weird but I just wasn't ready to leave my mom and brother(who was just 3 when I graduated High School). My college experience will forever be...different from everyone else. Wanna know what day "the first day of the rest of my life" was? September 11, 2001. My freshman class came into school with 9/11 hanging over us and the fact that we'd all been to young to keep George Bush out of the White House. What am I going to tell my kids if they ask about my 1st day of college? I asked my mom and grandma about theirs so I think it will probably come up.
So, moral of the day: wipe your hard-drives before throwing out your computers.
Alternatively, before you throw your computer away... pop the case open, yank the hard drive, flip some jumper settings and put it in your new computer. Maybe it's a measly 50GB drive? Well, 50GB is a lot of porn...

The one I hate the most is 2WW and after that is 5W. You can't draw any cards using the 2WW cost and it bothers me -_-. The 5W is just terrible anyways
That's also partially from Micah, who won't be online again until Monday.

Happy birthday!
I never remember to check the little birthday thing, so I only find out about them by hearsay.
m3h. I have to go make my brother his lunch now. His Majesty, Troy I, has requested tacos and the Queen Mama hath granted his request.
(thanks Mike :))
Now aren't you glad I put all that in a spoiler?
And let me also say welcome TIBA! Let me mix you a drink. I feel I may have slightly better chances trying to argue with a sedated bear assassin
Anyways...
YAY! I AM FINALLY OVER MY STUPID SICKNESS!!(for the most part) Go go antibiotics!
GAYMERS, the cause of, and solution to, all life's problems.
That said... blue... ya "spoilers" made me re-click almost every Magic card you mention. yeah, apparently, I haven't played in a while, and even my memory has been shot further. Oy!

I honestly don't mind what I do, I'm just in financial despair? o.o;;

Something about independance, I guess. That, and I don't know, maybe the dorm circumstances are different; I recall being to a friend's who had separate rooms for everyone, and the mess was everywhere except in his room. I don't know if that varies from a normal dorm.

Basically:
S + T = W
...S in this case stands for 'spam' and the T stands for 'light trolling'. And the W? That stands for 'Warning'. I love math. -- {mikeyG}

That said, my freshman dorm was all right. People here tend to be somewhat respectful. There are still parties, and there is one dorm that I would have HATED to be in, but I was never there.

Yep, that's what I'm eagerly awaiting. Granted, I could get an appartment now, but what's the point? I'd just be broke all the time with no way to fund my hobbies, credit card bill, or savings for school.
Wisconsin? Do you happen to go to Carthidge (or however you bloody spell it)? I have some friends that go there.
GAYMERS, the cause of, and solution to, all life's problems.
No, I don't go to Carthridge...I'm at University of Wisconsin Parkside. Also known as "UW Parkyourassanddonothing". that is, if you're part of the small majority that doesn't drink.
I wish I had a single.
* Leilani cracks up
