Welcome erimir! I agree with you about Lampanelli and Menica. The latter I don't find funny at all and the former, well it took her about 15 seconds to lay out about 10 gay jokes that were just shock-value offensive, not clever or funny. I took a pass on that one.

Yeah but bigotry is an effective way to get a laugh. Sometimes. Sometimes I find it funny just because the racism is so ridiculous, (aka on levels the likes I've never experienced in real life.) I guess to me that's the fantasy. That these things are blown so way out of proportion that they're funny. I liked Frankie Soto better than Carlos Mencia or Pablo Francisco but Soto died. That jerk >_<
Dave Chappelle makes jokes about racism and bigotry much more than he makes racist or bigoted jokes.
Chappelle is so much funnier and better in about every way than Carlos Mencia (real name: Ned Holness). I think there's a place for offensive jokes, and they can be very funny. But Lisa Lampanelli and Carlos Mencia are "offensive" but not funny most of the time. It's entirely possible to be offensive and hilarious, but they just are not. It really depends on what's the joke and what's "offensive".
The most annoying thing about Carlos Mencia is the whole bit where he acts like some stupid thing he's said is hard to get, and explains it as if the audience is full of idiots. He needs to learn that if they're not laughing, it's not because they don't get it, it's because the joke was ****ty.
Ellen Degeneres, eh. Margaret Cho is very funny tho. Notorious C.H.O. was the best one I've seen from her, I think.
erimir: I will never be at a computer that Youtube functions on. I require you to type it all out with feeling. thems the rules! >_>....ok so maybe I just need to find a computer that I can watch Youtube on ^_^.
Margaret Cho is funny. Anyone remember her sitcom? hehe. Ellen's pretty funny too. And she looks pretty good for a 50 year old.
I like Dmitry Martin. he's pretty funny.
And I STILL like Golden Girls. Something about it just makes me laugh.
Do you mean that you heard the Spanish and realized that that's not what it meant, or did you assume that it was mistranslated based on the English phrase? I didn't pay enough attention to the actual words being said, because when there are subtitles I find it too difficult to attempt to follow both the speech and the subtitles, and as I want to enjoy the movie itself rather than focus on improving my Spanish comprehension, you can tell which one wins out.
I thought that was what was meant, since her mother was having difficulties with her pregnancy, so she was "sick" because of the baby.
The Spanish amounted to the mother being sick because of she was pregnant. The subtitles said exactly "sick with baby" which doesn't make much grammatical sense in English.
One of my all-time favorite snicker moments like that was in high school. We were watching a video production of the play, "Our Town". It's set back in the 30s and a young man who is newly engaged to the girl next door comes downstairs into the kitchen and exhuberantly says to his parents, "I'm going next door to see my fiance!" To which his mother replies, "Don't forget to wear your rubbers!"
Rubbers being an old term for galloshes, of course. *snicker*

hehe. well I'm out! Gotta go to the mall and get shoes. I decided to take a half day at work because I'm distracted and not being productive at all.
Lisa Lampanelli, right? She has her moments, but I think much of her act is "offensive" but not funny. Or plain old offensive, although I don't get that offended by such self-conscious attempts at offending - I'm more bothered when I think that the person actually thinks that way. She wasn't too bad tho, but there are far better acts out there. Including her first Comedy Central special.
But she's not as bad as Carlos Mencia, who is also offensive/"offensive", but attempts to pass off his promotion of stereotypes as just "speaking the truth".
I thought she was funny. [[shrugs]]
My boyfriend, his dad, and I all find Carlos Mencia absolutely hilarious. Other favorites include Dave Chappelle, George Carlin, and Dane Cook.
Dane Cook is a silly *****. He said so!
Only one more day of class and then i'm done for the week! sweeeet.

I'm 21 (my avatar pic is from about 6 months ago). I was born in Cleveland but moved to North Carolina when I was 9.
I'm a linguistics and philosophy double major with a minor in women's studies.
I started playing Magic a couple months before Alliances came out, stopped during Prophecy (yeah... didn't know that Invasion was going to be crazy), bought cards occasionally from Judgment through Kamigawa, and started playing regularly again during Ravnica.
I guess I've never heard of Journey's End. Is it a war book or something?
also. There was a recent episode of Pokemon where Ash says, "Brock, you're poking me too hard."
... not that I still watch pokemon.... :whistles:
If I remember correctly, you were watching that episode last week... and writing every part of it to me on MSN. -_-
By the way, you never told me which songs you "had to get used to". I kinda need to know that to continue the list without giving ya non-fun songs for you. =p
I... kinda can't comment on Pan's Labyrinth since I haven't had the time to go see it. Though, it makes me think of "The Labyrinth" with David Bowie. That movie will always ring in my mind just because it's the first time Hogwarts is mentioned (Fine, she says Hogwart, without the s) and due to "Magic Dance".
Also, aroh Erimir.
I haven't been here that long either but... yah. Welcometh.
Watch out for Micah though. >_>
Also, does anyone know any high tempo songs off the top of their head? I'm kinda hyperish right now and need something to go with it.
Also, I'm real drunk right now. Might not want to listen to me. Though I did tell my coworkers I was bi tonight (in the words of an equally drunk coworker: "In a 'pit stop to gay town' way or a 'likes guys and girls more or less equally' way? "The second one, Rob." "Oh, ****ing good for you, man."). I'm going to bed now.

Right up my alley. By the way, in your school, does "women's studies" entail what is called "gender studies" in other schools?

Granted it's been like 10,000 years since I've seen Labrynth, but from what I remember it's nothing like Pan's Labrynth whatsoever, though both are susprisingly dark. I suggest not carrying any expectations when you see it. Yes, you'll see fairy-tale fantasy that has a certain whimsy to it. You'll also see a guy get his face bashed in with a wine bottle in graphic detail.

ahahahahah, cleveland. my boyfriend hates cleveland, but then again most people who live in columbus and cincinnati seem to. For the record, my boyfriend is originally from Ohio...and goes to Ohio State [there's a surprise, I'm sure]. Ohioans are interesting people, I must say.

i have no homework to do. this is straaangee.
haha, pokemon. After they started making the Johoto league [or however you spell it], the show/games started sucking. Though the theme song is always catchy....
I really have nothing to say, in case you haven't noticed.
Buckeyes won in basketball tonight...if anyone cares. Wisconsin lost! WOO! hahaha. Go indiana on that one. My friends who go to Madison are soo pissed. Jo is amused.
graphic violence, what? I looooveee graphic violence.
I have determined that I am a very strange female. And that I don't get along with other girls at ALL. It's a miracle I have a few female friends.

Yes, I can vouch for that. And sometimes, "interesting" means "get the heck away from me."
I'm from Ohio, too, by the way.
I have determined that I am a very strange female. And that I don't get along with other girls at ALL. It's a miracle I have a few female friends.
Well, that's not so unusual. A lot of times people can get easily frustrated with others of the same gender group. I mean, I don't have many female friends, either. Though that might be more because of chance rather than choice. *shrug*

Well, I mean "interesting", when I say "interesting". I've found that in general, persons from Ohio are MUCH nicer and fun and interesting to talk to than those from Wisconsin.
Anyway, what part of Ohio are you from?
I have next to nothing in common with girls, except for the fact that I like boys. [[shrugs]] I hate shopping, makeup, nail polish, fancy clothes, GIRL POWER!!!111one bands, and pretty much anything else you can think of that a girl likes.
I like sports. I like playing them, and getting all dirty and dusty while doing so. I like playing poker. I like talking about music--but NOT in the "OMG THIS SONG IS SO GREAT" way like all the girls I know do. I don't mind going a day or two without a shower. I love jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies. I know more about computers than any girl I know. I like nerf guns and airsoft and all that kinda thing. I like stuff that has to do with WWII. I like violence and blood and gore. And a billion other things I can't even think of right now.
This is why I'm always "one of the guys". and damnit, I love it. I relate to guys so much better.

GusGus: Yes. That's the episode ^_^. I couldn't believe he said that! I eventually liked the songs I downloaded. I have 5 more for January and 30 for February so feelf ree to send me another list. I didn't do all of them cuz not all of them were on iTunes. But if it helps my favorites were Plastic Stars, Goodnight and Go, Cherry Lips, Dear Sons and Daughters, Suddenly I See, I'll Believe in Anything.
Those are listed in order
And hey he doesn't have to watch out for me >_< I'm the kind of presence you can feel coming from at least a half a foot away. Who needs to watch out with that kind of notice?
Too dirty and sad?
erimir: Cool. Kraj'll teach you the secret handshake. I'm too busy with my music and my books
It happens every so often. The lack of a social life at Parkside starts to get to me, people in general start getting on my nerves, my depression comes back [at least stronger than it usually is], and I shut Mikey out.
We'll conviently not mention that I think I'm losing him, anyway. We hardly talk lately, though that might just be me losing it and him reading while talking to me.
I'm afraid I'm going to lose him. Push him a little too far away, and lose him. And not be able to get him back.
Then I really would go crazy. Like, talking to things that aren't there and all that.
This usually passes in a few days, but life is hell in the meantime. I have no friends in college, I don't have anything to do except homework and be on the computer, mikey and i will fight--which doesn't happen all that often, not seriously anyway....I won't eat, i'll sleep too much, watch too much tv.
Basically shut the world out.
I don't know why I do it.
And now I'm done babbling about nothing.
