I don't think it's a Loam counter. It counters land destruction more than anything. (Which raises other issues...) It also counters Crucible of Worlds and Ramunap Excavator, which fall into the "weird cards that if your opponent plays it, he does so with purpose" category.

I love how it blocks your opponents from enchanting their own lands, or turning them into creatures, for that matter.

Yep, lands can turn themselves into creatures, but I was referring to cards that turn lands into creatures, such as Nissa, Who Shakes the World

Well, lands that turn themselves into creatures can still turn themselves into creatures. If anything, this guy makes your land creatures better by giving them hexproof.

And it doesn't give Hexproof.

Wait, I only just realised this guy counters Teferi's untap, right?

Teferi's ability doesn't target, so I think it skirts right by Tomik.

AKA Ral Zarek's boyfriend. Of course, being that Tomik here works with the Orzhov Syndicate, they have to keep their relationship a secret. And lest you think I'm just some random shipper, this is confirmed in the War of the Spark novel.
