It really does. And I prefer my mana dorks mono-green, just for mana fixing advantage: Having a forest and a Birds of Paradise gives me access to G and one mana of any color. Having an island and a Birds of Paradise just gives me access to U.
And three is way too much to pay for a mana dork which only taps for one mana.
None of these abilities really cohere into a definite plan, because tapping for mana really makes deathtouch and lifelink not as good, but that doesn't a weak creature this make.
Maybe good for a controlling deck with instants or mana sinks? Keep it back to discourage an opponent's attack and after combat, tap it for whatever mana you need for whatever instant effect you need. Or tap it after declaring defenders for a combat trick.
I like it. Feels like it's best in BG decks that splash a couple of off-color cards, but unlike a lot of color fixers, it has a body and abilities that are still relevant late game.
