As for other mutation abilities those are represented in the abitional "when this gets a +1/+1 counter" triggers and the cycle that gives abilities ( trample, Vigilance, flying?) to creatures with a counter on them.
IN that regard this mechanic has more depth than Mentor had.
Adapt is similar to Evolve. And it's nearly identical to Monstrosity. Personally, I've always thought it was a terrible idea to make similar keyword abilities.
Adapt is too similar to Monstrosity. Just like Horsemanship is too similar to Flying. It just leads to confusion.
That's ALL I got.
I want a FUSION of those TWO.
