1 extra power over Mystic Snake is nice, but it's the ability to Riptide Laboratory this thing to your hand that makes it potentially slightly better and worth that tough mana cost.

Also, there's Wirewood Symbiote to consider, now that I've thought of it. Used to untap Elvish Piper, perhaps.
