Pontiff is used interchangeably with Pope these days, but historically was used to refer to bishops.

It was one of the things haunt was supposed to be, so, yes, I guess.

I mean, when I look at how they're depicted, I definitely think of the aristocracy.

Pretty solid creature, but they're being awfully careful about printing free sacrifice outlets lately, I bet they consider it a design flaw nowadays. Dark-Dweller Oracle suffers more from that than this card does because this ability is still good when you just hold a little mana open. This one is more about what the card does than having a sac outlet.
