Good effect in standard, might replace the niche use of In Bolas's Clutches here and there. Personally not a big fan, but I am looking forward to hopefully responding to this (successfully) with Expansion // Explosion at least once. How fun would it be to steal opponent's Teferi, Hero of Dominaria in response to them trying to steal your Niv-Mizzet, Parun then -3 Niv back into your deck?

It sure does, but both Explosion and Mass Manipulation only cost 4 or less when X=0, at which point you probably wouldn't want to cast (or copy) them ^^

Ah, darn. I forgot about the 4 or less bit, my bad. That said, Expansion does copy the X of a spell as long as it's under 4 cmc. You can confirm in the ruling notes here: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=expansion

Rather, it would be an illegal target, and you wouldn't be able to cast Expansion in the first place.

That would be amazing! But the CMC of the spell is equal to what was paid for it while it's on the stack, so sadly your Expansion would just fizzle. The X in a cards CMC is 0 anywhere else but on the stack. For example Expansion can't copy Explosion either, unless it was cast for X=0.

More powerful but worse Entrancing Melody

There's also Dominate, which costs 1 more, but is an instant, making it better for Draw-Go.

It's a really cool card that will fit VERY nicely into the Juggernaut Commander decks that exist. The dream would be gaining control of every creature and planeswalker that your opponents have with infinite mana or something, haha.

I'm curious if this will see play in Standard. The presence of Counterspells makes this card a liability more often than not, although it does some pretty decent work in the late-game against Golgari right now.

Too expensive. Would've liked it better at XUUUUU or X3UU.

Multicolor. You generally have to be careful how many cards with three or more (sometimes even two!) mana symbols of the same casting cost you put in your deck.

So, possibly x3UU. Though that would be strictly better and possibly too good.

That UUUU casting cost is what makes this less attractive to me.
