Well, she'll definitely help shore up the White Weenie matchup for Esper Control decks. T2 Moment of Craving into a T3 Kaya seems like a nice way to keep the board under control. The fact that she hits Legion's Landing is not insignificant.

I'm a little puzzled why they made the second ability so restrictive. Are there good 1 drops that I'm missing?

I think targeted removal of this caliber at 3cmc demands some pretty harsh restrictions, but aside from 1cmc enchantment, artifact, and creature cards, possibly her most interesting angle is that she also exiles tokens. Being able to knock out errant 4/4 Flyers and 2/2 Menacers seems pretty cool.

But why..?

After thinking for another 5 minutes;
If we judge the card as a combo-piece, and as a 10 cost card -- where 7 of the mana is for counterspells and spells to keep her alive, in a deck completely riddled with exile-spells, it could be a win condition.



But you need to exile a lot of cards to with with her -5.

Did they forget that Teferi also is 3 mana and draws a card with his plus 1, and then generates 2 mana and draws 1 each turn -- with an ultimate that pretty literally wins the game if you've stabilized?



...her +1 should always generate 2 life, and cost the opponent 2 life if you exile a creature.

This card is nuts. Her plus 1 builds up ultimate in case you weren't running path, Aside from exiling a yard of 10 cards or so... In the best color combo with built in exile effects and yard hate

Was hoping for a better control planeswalker for Orzhov. It's interesting to note though that the -1 does target most tokens. The main downside of this card is that it doesn't do anything in a lot of matchups. You can exile your own creatures if you don't have a choice in order to gain life. The -5 is neat if you build around it, but this definitely is not an auto-include planeswalker in any current archetypes. Hopefully we see more synergistic cards to go with her.

Maybe this gets better with context, but this seems like an intentional powering down of planeswalkers. I'm all for it frankly, I don't want anymore Teferi's for a little while.

I want this mostly because the art is amazing, but would be decent sideboard against Izzet Drakes.

TRAAAAAASH, more do nothing planeswalkers for janks non competitive players

While at first glance she seems rather benign, she's perfectly positioned for those grindy midrange control matchups, and has the added benefit of some built-in hate against everything from Arclight Phoenix to token strategies and some scary little threats like Pelt Collector, and other cards of it's ilk (IMO we're likely to see a blue variant for Simic). Then there's the easy to achieve ultimate, which over time could actually be a viable win-con in conjunction with a little side-pressure.

Outside of Standard, being able to exile Mox Opal, Champion of the Parish, Aether Vial, Flameblade Adept, Pithing Needle, Grafdigger's Cage, and Death's Shadow (amongst tokens and many other sneaky 1-drops) seems really pretty great.

That -1 is maybe narrow enough that the card should be rewarding you for using it with loyalty, but let's look at some things. It can remove Sol Ring and Mana Crypt, while also being a graveyard hate card, while also gaining you some incidental life points, but things don't look good for her standard playability. Interesting answer for Chalice of the Void and Aether Vial in Modern while also being able to remove things like Death's Shadow, Grim Pyromancer, Champion of the parish, various mana dorks and aggro creatures... The -5 doesn't seem all that amazing- Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas just lasered people dead sometimes with his ult, for example- but might help you close out a game, or gain you enough life to survive another turn even.

I think this card looks bad on paper but might see some favor down the line. She's not Dack Fayden good, but she's like... better than Ajani Goldmane good, perhaps.
