Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician makes this playable in a goblin deck.

If only red had spells that allowed you to sacrifice lands, mostly mountains, as an additional or subsitue cost to cast a spell. Like Fireblast, Shard Volley. Or maybe a land that can pitch itself to draw you a card like Forgotten Cave. Or maybe a land that can sacrifice itself like Barbarian Ring.
