This set blows. theres only a handful of modern playable cards and some of those are even on the weaker end or strictly sideboard cards.

This is a commander and draft based set plain and simple. They slap modern on to anything they want to make money with.

You are totally correct in many points. I should have said that up to this point this set hasnt delivered what it has been hyped to be. Secondly there obviously are cards that arent good right now but will be later or arent seen as good and will be later I can see that for sure. But the fact remains that making modern premium sets with draft on the mind has a negative impact on the sets design in terms of playable or needed cards. Ill point to that masters set with the tree of perdition as an example and even this set (so far) as one too. This is a premium set man, top dollar and its loaded with cards like this one. I guess thats my issue with it. I just remember how great modern masters 1 and 2 were and how WoTC has attempted to recapture that magic but has made the same mistake for over 5-6 premium sets now.

there is simply a couple of things to consider here:

first and foremost, wait for the entire set to be spoiled, before you pass judgement on how many playable cards are in this. we don't even know half the set at this point.

second, wait for the set to actually be out to see how it'll affect the meta, cause this stuff is hardly an exact science to predict.
consider how long Death's Shadow was a considered a useless 0.10$ rare before someone made a viable deck around it.
go to the "10 Best Cards in Future Sight?" thread from way back in 2007 and check out the grand total of two people who even put Tarmogoyf in their lists.

thirdly, no doubt future sets will also affect the playability of some of these cards. WotC knows this, but we don't yet.

anyway, i just don't see the point of getting riled up under a spoiler for a clearly draft chaff common.
every single set ever has those and every set ever is pretty sure to always have more of those than tournament viable rares.

I dont understand why you would exaggerate the case here. I nor did anyone else expect 254 tier-1 cards. I did however expect at least 10 to be main deck able in various decks but thats simply not the case. Theres alot of useless unplayable stuff in this set by modern and even commander standards. As long as WoTC keeps building their sets with draft in mind we can continue to see this type of trash. Why do you think the masters sets were killed? Why do you think masters one was such a hit? Because it was completely modern focused.

Like i said, after modern masters 1 and 2 they slap the word modern on anything theyre trying to hype and theyll have 4, 5, or 6 more “modern” sets just like this one that will also fail to meet player expectations.

When the best cards in a premium set are the lands thats just not cool especially with the amount of hype theyve pushed. But i get it, they have to be cautious as to not destroy modern but jeez man.. a 2 mana sorcery that deals 3 damage and has a useless ability away from this sets draft... its pretty lame dude and youd be hard pressed to disagree.

Well, given that it's in booster decks, the draft aspect is a given. Rosewater actually said as much on Blogatog. Which...means that anything apart from a supplemental set will be partially designed with draft in mind. (Now, if you have suggestions for how to break draft's hold on the game, I'm all ears.)

As for Commander...well, they did say from the onset that it's not just for Modern, but for anything non-Standard. The question does become how we/they are going to slow Modern down to a 6-8 turn format, though. (Just four turns seems unenjoyably brief from my perspective...)

Always felt Norin the Wary should have been a Human Coward and not a Warrior. Wizards what were you thinking tut tut
