Doesn't this automatically slot into many vintage and legacy decks? Many vintage decks are just mana artifacts, maybe a necropotence, bolas citadel and sensei's divining top and some planeswalkers for non-land permanents so this goes right in. It seems this would just push out the few creatures you would see in some of those decks, why play something like snapcaster when you can have a free creature.
Also wonder if this will be an issue with grim monolith. Just imagine some control list with mostly spells and only lands and grim monolith. 4 mana, play grim monolith, play this, untap with 2 mana floating into infinite colorless mana? Use walking ballista or some other X spell you can play with this to finish off?
Seems to make grim monolith a 1 card combo of 4 easy mana into infinite colorless?
This companions are begging to be broken and look to add super repetitive gameplay, I think they are a huge mistake. At best they turn out to be bad enough they see very little play but i'm afraid a few of them are quite good and will just bore down gameplay and deckbuilding putting decks into stupid forced shells.
