Card looks quite incredible to me.

Granted, Metallic Rebuke can be snuck in when you have a clue or artifact and your opponent isn't anticipating it, but this does the same thing for the same cost otherwise, with the upside of replacing itself when it isn't relevant and allowing you to dig. I would almost certainly say that as long as UR Control remains a thing this will see play.

I'd seriously consider playing this in Modern. Sure, it's one mana more than both Mana Leak and Impulse, but you get to choose, and that versatility might be worth it.

What makes this appeal to me is you can threaten both on the same turn. Versatility is extremely powerful, hence Collected Brutality. Both of these effects on one card is definitely worth 3 Mana.

The downside of Mana Leak has always been that in U mirrors or long grindy games, the card gradually loses power. To have a version that is 1 more cmc but can be traded in for value isn't just good, its a very real option in modern. Consider that you could leak something on turn 3, and then late in the game, snap impulse to find your wincon or answer.

I can see this card playable in standard. It is a very useful card for control decks since it will give them a power boost do to its versatility. With Torrential Gearhulk been very powerful in control decks, this card will definitely be a new addition for control decks do to been an instant spell which it synergizes very well with Torrential Gearhulk's ability. This card will also increase the value of Torrential Gearhulk even more if this card sees play in standard.
