Wish they would just make cards like this "Basic Creature - Rat" Include the reminder text if you want, but it just seems more elegant to me.

Ah I understand now. Pretty confident that the Basic is not meant to "allow any number" but meant as a way to distinguish lands explicitly.
i.e. Molten Rain, Would be really hard to specify destroying the "normal" lands without the basic type.

That's not what I'm talking about... "A deck can have any number of cards named ~" is covered by just making the card Basic, that's what the Basic Supertype does.

I guess I don't understand what point/clarification you are trying make.....pretty certain the oracle text is: "each other Rat creature you control"

It would actually use the rules that already exist rather than having to spell out something in the rules text that a supertype already does.

what would that accomplish?

I'm open to more rules and explanation but I can't make sense of this. (especially since they have been doing everything in their power to trim text)

For sure help them rats get through, this deck will see play because it's fun and interesting.

However, since this seems to be a better Relentless Rats (traditionally played in mono-B and 20+ Rats), I'm not sure we will see U splashes.
