First WBG elf commander. I feel like a lot of design attention is to that mode.

Hm, good point about the planeswalkers. I still forget about that change sometimes!

This is at least priced to move for standard. Three mana for a 3/4 is a good rate, and this can make use of all legends, including stuff like planeswalkers. The ability not costing any mana means it can be pretty boss in superfriends. Most commander chaff is just that, actual chaff.

I wish they'd leave that for actual Commander sets. It gets a little frustrating seeing cards that look cool, but then everyone says are "only viable in Commander," and yet it's in a main set. Space is at a premium, and for those of us who don't play Commander, having space in main sets used on Commander stuff is a little irritating.

Mox Amber + anything that sacrifices artifacts for free = infinite mana of all three of your colors until end of turn plus infinite artifact cast/etb triggers if you have anything that cares about that.

Correct, nicely spotted. Not in a color that can take advantage of Dominaria Squee, though you could use new Karn to yoink legendary artifacts back.

I'm not sure that will work.

The effect says the cards in your graveyard gain that text. So it only applies that text once to cards that are there, and once the Amber moves zones, it becomes a new entity and loses that text.

If Kethis simply read "Exile two legendary cards from your graveyard: You may play legendary cards from your graveyard this turn.", then your shenanigans would fly, but I think Wizards carefully worded it for that reason.

I wonder why we don't see many dark-skinned elves. Not just in Magic, but in media in general.

Give the pro-representation people some credit. The sort of people who insist that fictional races are only portrayed in specific ways are acting as gatekeepers no one asked for or wanted. This is a fantasy where elves can be crab-warriors so the sort of person who says that they can't be dark-skinned needs to have some perspective then shut up.

Fair enough. People concerned with representation end up too often being more like Devin Grayson (i.e., unintentionally racist).

I don't mean to suggest you shouldn't enjoy Tolkein's body of work over it. I don't think he was trying to convince his audience negative attitudes toward real peoples. I think he just wanted to avoid questioning which side of the conflict you should be rooting for and in that end used a shortcut to make the good guys all blond and beautiful with the baddies dark and grotesque.

If for some new setting they decided to have elves still be green mana but largely dark-skinned like this guy, similar to how the humans of the Zhalfir are dark-skinned, I bet some minority of MTG players would flip their absolute shiz.

Yep, I figured that was why. After all, this was the same man who explicitly based his orcs off of the "least lovely Mongol-types"... which, now that I think about it, makes the entire setting of Tarkir a little more unfortunate.

Because Tolkein created the modern "elf" and his works were not subtly racist. He was no Lovecraft in that department but it suffices to say he was not concerned with this thing called "representation". I don't mean that as an attack on the man's legacy; I'm just answering your question.

I was really hoping we'd finally get at WBG 'life gain matters' card for commander. Oh well, maybe next time.
