Aether Adept gains a better mana cost, trading off its ability to target your own creatures (or the creatures of an ally player.) One of the most frustrating things in draft is to see multiples of this effect in a row, so uncommon is fair; this card is slightly better than an old favorite, Man-o'-War, because of its very relevant Wizard typing. I don't know if Man-o'-war still retains a spot in Animar lists, but this can't fill a niche there.
