An upgrade to Spellheart Chimera, a card that was just barely unplayable. I think this one is pretty good.

I don't see the trample as more important than being able to hold down the fort as a defensive creature until you have a bunch of spells in the grave.

Spellheart Chimera had trample however, which might make this slightly worse. Still good however, and may find a home in Temur Tower.

If tarmogoyf cost one more I would still play it. If tarmogoyf cost one more and had flying I would definitely play it. If I could play a flying tarmogoyf in grixis without a splash, I would. this is pretty damn good, and it dodges bolts and unon-revolted push.

No it's definitely not goyf. You can just put goyf in any deck basically and it's good. But I could see this card having a place in control decks, but it will never be the engine that goyf is.

I wouldn't call this comparable to goyf yet. Only counting instants and sorcery cards in your own graveyard is far more narrow than all card types in both players grave. It can potentially be stronger in power, but that's more reliant on your own deck build. Goyf doesn't really care about how the deck is built, he just gets big.

That is really sweet for an uncommon.

I have a deck "in the shop" that I'm trying to tweak, arrange and tighten up... Sort of a newer version of Suicide Bloo (post Probe ban) with Thing In the Ice, Kiln Fiends and the like. I've been messing with the creature base some... I'm kind of intrigued by this card for that deck; either this or the new Cryptic Serpent could possibly help make my "bad" deck, less bad... At first glance, the card is decent, but in some long, grindy match, the card could be out of hand. Color me... intrigued.
