  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Debut Stream Reveals New Art

    It’s been just over a month since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made a surprise cameo at the Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease. As a result of the mix-up, different plans were needed for preview season. During today’s debut stream on YouTube, we got to see some of the new variant art treatments being offered for the Ninja Turtles.

  • Ninja Turtles Previews Are Starting Soon

    Thanks to a mix up with the Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease kits, the next Universes Beyond set, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had all 61 of its rares/mythic rares revealed early.  The rares in a set are often used as the backbone of preview season for an upcoming set so Wizards of the Coast was forced to think outside the box to get people excited for Ninja Turtles.  Wizards is now sharing their preview plans in an announcement made this morning on Daily MTG.

  • A Magic: The Gathering Live Action Movie Is In Development

    Rumors of a live action movie are being confirmed in an exclusive by Patrick Cavanaugh at MovieWeb.  Matt Johnson, the co-creator of the mockumentary sitcom web series, Nirvana The Band The Show, has been tapped to be the director.  Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald are also attached to the project in a writing capacity. 

  • Magic’s Companion App Is Receiving A Major Overhaul

    If you’ve ever played in organized play — Prerelease, draft, sealed, constructed, etc — you’ve likely interacted with the Companion App.  The Companion App is how you check in and participate with events at your local WPN store.  After checking in, the app will also give you your matchups, timers, and you can opt to use the in-app life counter for you and your opponent.  Now according to an announcement at Daily MTG, beginning the week of February 16, the Companion App will feature Player Profiles.

  • Tolarian Community College’s Annual Trans Lifeline Fundraiser Has Raised Over $450,000 So Far

    Trans Lifeline is an organization that started shortly after the Trans Day of Remembrance in 2014 initially as a hotline to assist trans people looking for support in response to a growing number of suicides among trans individuals.   In 2023, The Professor began an annual fundraising drive to support Trans Lifeline using his Bluesky and X accounts to promote his efforts.  In his first three years, The Professor raised over $1.2 million, raising nearly $600,000 in 2025 alone.  
  • Secret Lair Announces Roll For Initiative Superdrop

    Wizards of the Coast, makers of Magic: The Gathering also make the popular tabletop RPG, Dungeons & Dragons.  Sets like the upcoming Secrets of Strixhaven are evidence that the two games may even have a shared universe.  Now, as announced on Daily MTG, Wizards is dipping into their D&D well for a new Superdrop called Roll For Initiative.

    The first pro tour of 2026 is now behind us and Christoffer Larsen is the victor.  Larsen competed in best of 5 matches with his Dimir Excruciator deck.  A third of all decks played in the Pro Tour were Badgermole Cub powered decks but the top 8 showcased a broader variety of different decks and playstyles

    Typically when I play magic, I play Izzet or Simic.  Izzet carries the ruthless aggression of red with the calculated control of blue.  Simic likewise relies on a splash of control while green takes your battlefield and makes it huge.  Jund, the color combination of black, red, and green is not something I would normally play because of the lack of instant control that blue would normally offer.  Still, I was so impressed with Auntie Ool, Cursewretch that I had to give the Blight Curse deck a fair shot. The day it released, I was forking over my hard earned money just for a shot at piloting this unique deck full of despair and decay.

    Wizards of the Coast in an exclusive given to Jason Fanelli at GameSpot has revealed the product line-up for its highly anticipated Universes Beyond set, Marvel Super Heroes.  No new products were announced for the set but Marvel Super Heroes will have a wide array of options to choose from.

  • Wizards Teased An Early Glimpse Into Secrets of Strixhaven

    Secrets of Strixhaven is still a few months away but thanks to an exclusive given to Jason Fanelli at GameSpot  at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, we now have our first idea of what to expect out of the next In-Multiverse set from Magic: The Gathering. April’s Secrets of Strixhaven has released most if not all of the product information for the set and shown off a few of the cards.

  • New Lawsuit Alleges Wizards Over-Produced Magic: The Gathering Cards

    In a new lawsuit filed in a federal court in Rhode Island on January 21st, Hasbro is accused of artificially inflating the Magic: The Gathering market between 2021 and 2023.  As reported by Corey Plante at Polygon, shareholders Joseph Crocono and Ultan McGlone allege that Hasbro made “materially false and misleading” public statements during earnings calls in that time.

  • Wizards Officially Reveals All 61 Rares and Mythic Rares in TMNT

    Monday, we reported that over the prerelease weekend at least 30 cards were accidentally revealed. The mix-up of some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cards being packed into the promo slot for the Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease kits caused a firestorm of emotions varying in amusement to annoyance across all forms of social media.   Since then, more cards found this way have been spoiled — so much so that unofficial online sources had revealed every rare and mythic rare in the set. In response, Wizards has added all 61 rare and mythic rare cards to the TMNT card gallery explaining, “they're already out there if you know where to look.”

    Since 2015, the name Doug Bowser has been synonymous with Nintendo.  The former president of Nintendo of America took the reins after Reggie Fils-Aimé left the position.  Since then, Doug Bowser, who ironically shares his name with the king of the Koopas, has become a staple at Nintendo. Bowser left Nintendo at the end of 2025, marking the end of an era with Devon Pritchard taking the helm.  Now, just a few weeks removed from his departure, Bowser has a new gig  - sitting on the board of directors at Hasbro.

  • The First Arena Direct Of 2026 Has Been Announced

    Lorwyn Eclipsed is a few days away from being released on paper but as of today, MTG Arena players can access the set digitally. Along with new Brawl decks, Cragg and Squen digital sleeves, and a new Midweek Magic event schedule, Wizards also announced on Daily MTG that the first MTG Arena Direct of 2026 is coming.  This will allow Lorwyn Eclipsed to be the backdrop of players’ first opportunity of the year to win gems, packs, and other prizes.

  • Wizards Accidentally Reveals Over 30 TMNT Cards at Lorwyn Eclipsed Prerelease

    Ninja Turtles may be known for hiding in the New York City sewers but it turns out they may also be hiding in your Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease kit.  Prerelease events started on Friday, the 16th but many players quickly realized that their foil promos were actually cards from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set that releases in March. This caused over 30 cards to be accidentally leaked ahead of schedule during the Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease.

  • Fallout is Coming to Secret Lair

    In March 2024, Universes Beyond added the iconic video game franchise, Fallout, to its growing compendium of worlds with four pre-con Commander decks.  A month later, Amazon released a television adaptation of the popular IP that was met with generally positive reviews.  Currently, season 2 of Fallout is airing weekly on Prime Video with the last episode set to air on February 4th. This makes it the perfect time for Universes Beyond to revisit Fallout. As reported by Jason Fanelli at GameSpot, Wizards is doing just this with the Rad Superdrop.
