Celebrating the Artwork of Lorwyn Eclipsed

The first Magic set of 2026 is just over a week away and the contents have been revealed.  According to the debut video posted on Wizards’ YouTube channel last week, the art in Lorwyn Eclipsed is supposed to have a hand-drawn feel to it.  I wanted to take a few minutes to look at some of the amazing artists that have brought Lorwyn-Shadowmoor to life and their incredible art.

Fable Frame Cards

Classic fantasy storybooks, especially those written for children, had a very distinct art style. No matter who the illustrator was, you could see that hand-drawn, paper-esque look and know exactly what kind of book you were about to open. There are 50 cards in Lorwyn Eclipsed that celebrate this art style by 16 different artists.  While Spry and Mighty is my favorite card, each of these artists should be recognized for the fantastic work they did creating such a vivid set of cards. Those artists and their works are:

Japan Showcase Cards

There are eight cards that received a variant art done by one of eight talented Japanese artists working on Lorwyn Eclipsed.  Each card has a borderless and a full art version available in Collector Boosters.  My favorite is Bloom Tender by Yuyuharu.

While I'm not super stoked about them being limited to Collectors Boosters or being rated as Mythic Rare when they’re normally printed as Rare, the artwork is phenomenal, and each of the artists has done a magnificent job creating bright, vibrant variants of some of the set’s most popular cards. That work should absolutely be celebrated. Those artists and their works are:

The world of Magic: The Gathering is brought to life with every set by a group of talented artists who have more artistic ability in their little pinky finger than I have in my entire body. This is but a small sampling of the great art to be seen when Lorwyn Eclipsed releases on January 23rd.
