Exclusive: Check Out These Two Red Spells From Tarkir: Dragonstorm

Tarkir: Dragonstorm is almost upon us, and MTG Salvation was given the opportunity to reveal two exclusive preview cards for the set. With a return to such an iconic plane known for its Khans, Dragons, and plenty of iconic characters, from returning characters like Sarkhan and Ugin to plenty of new ones, especially the new Spirit Dragon cycle.

For our preview cards, we've got a potentially powerful new Red enchantment which rewards you with card advantage, especially if you're deck is running plenty of Dragons to return the Dragonstorm to your hand.

Breaching Dragonstorm

Breaching Dragonstorm - 4R

Enchantment - Uncommon

When this enchantment enters, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card. You may cast it without paying its mana cost if that spell's mana value is 8 or less. If you don't, put that card into your hand.

When a Dragon you control enters, return this enchantment to its owner's hand.

Breaching Dragonstorm has a fair bit going on for it. For 4R you get an enchantment that can, net you a powerful card in a pinch without paying its mana cost. This could mean anything from a new threat for an opponent to deal with, including the newly revealed Ugin, Eye of the Storms to Craterhoof Behemoth. Should you choose to not cast the spell immediately, you still get the card, which is just pure value. To put the topping on the cake, if you're running a Dragon-focused deck, which thanks to Tarkir's setting it's fair to say you might be, you can return the enchantment to your hand to replay down the road for effectively another free spell. I'm already starting to think of the shenanigans this can cause in Commander, or even limited formats to potentially close out games.

Narset's Rebuke

Narset's Rebuke - 4R

Instant - Common

Narset's Rebuke deals 5 damage to target creature. Add URWIf that creature would die this turn, exile it instead.

Narset's Rebuke is a card I want to start including in any Jeskai deck I run from now on. Yes, it's 5 mana, making it an expensive spell. But in theory, it's effectively only 2 mana when you consider you get URW in return for your troubles should the spell resolve at the table. Giving you some extra Jeskai-flavored Mana to then spend on your turn (or an opponent's should you have another handy instant in your hand) is clutch. It's also a 5 mana spell that does exactly 5 damage to a creature and, if the creature is destroyed, is exiles it.  Also, it's a Story Spotlight card depicting the struggle between the two former Planeswalkers, Narset and Sarkhan over the future of Tarkir following all it's been through.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm is slated to release next month, with Prerelease (complete with Clan-themed Prerelease packs) kicking off starting April 4th, while the set's full release is slated for April 11th.
