When is MTGNexus planned to open? Any ideas yet? I am sure it will take a while there is a lot of content here to move.

"No, our minds are made up."

"Oh hey someone is buying the site and it's remaining open."

If the people who make up the relevant parts of the community to you are moving, then going over there could be reasonable. If not, then, at least personally, the community is way more important than the staff. In my case, at this point in time, I'm almost exclusively focused on the Mafia side of things, with the occasional foray into EDH. The EDH section is losing a number of serious people to this schism, so I'm probably just forgoing the game altogether for the time being; I haven't played Magic since August of last year anyways, if I recall correctly. Both communities will probably change, but it's a question of convenience of staying here or loyalty to people who are moving, the primary group of which and force behind which is staff. Both sites are at an unstable state. This site needs a staff that is actively focused on it and appreciates the community, Nexus will need people who like the old staff of Salvation enough to want to be there, and doesn't have the funding or people to be as stable as Salvation potentially can be at this time.

That said, as a user, you probably won't even notice most of it. The staff are just people, just the same as users. Their authority is an artificial concept. So make sure that whatever you choose, it's based on your feelings about the community, not just following either the staff to Nexus or just staying here for the site structure itself, as either way, you'll likely end up disappointed if that's the reasoning for your choice.

For me, as a veteran, it is, and always was, about the community, not the name. I'll go where the people I like to talk to, and the staff that did such amazing work, are going.

If the staff moves to Nexus, I'll follow, like I went from News to Sally 14 years ago.

wait does this mean that mtgsalvation will be up and running as if there were no big changes? or will the domain change with it?

Well, it is a nice family of boards. (And now this reminds me of how, in the wake of the Shudderwock ban, I was arguing Hearthstone needs among other things a concede option that can be used at any time.)

I hope the community will move over to MTGNexus, and that it will live up to our expectations. If only for their story : the staff loved their job, and in the chaos of last month’s announcement, they dared dream of a brighter future and took the steps to fulfill that dream. They deserve to succeed. They deserve our support.

I will change my signature to show support for MTGNexus, and encourage everyone to do the same. They’ll need our help with some marketing...

I'll likely be on both for a time, determining which would be better suit me. That said, I'd likely go to Nexus in the end to reduce the likelihood of this happening to me again

This is certainly an unexpected development. I know that MTGSalvation is a great site and has excellent memories. I am part of the group that will be heading over to the new site. I warmly wish all MTGSal users who choose to stay an excellent home!

And just like that, this community gets split down the middle. This whole thing just got way too complicated. Will MTGNexus just become another underwhelming offshoot like No Goblins Allowed? Or will its potentially runaway success cause Salvation to wither and fade? Are Salvation's staff a united front after this announcement? What was once a simple migration of a community just got a fresh injection of uncertainty.
