Commentary
Teferi has finally overtaken Karn as Dominaria's premier mythic. Karn's ability to slide into any color combination has long made him a versatile beast with a hefty price, but Teferi's dominance in Standard has simply outpaced this. Dominaria as a whole, however, remains in financial ruins. A box that misses on both Karn and Teferi - which is roughly half of all boxes - offers a return of merely half your investment. Only about one in ten boxes will actually net you a profitable return, which makes Dominaria's odds even worse than trying for a masterpiece.

Commentary
The doom and gloom of Dominaria boxes has no foothold in Rival's territory. Although the top movers are mostly depreciating, there's still plenty of value here. More importantly, the value is better distributed across the set. As with almost all recent sets, turning a profit is still highly dependent upon your box's mythics, but there are numerous paths to get there in Rivals. Even just getting one decent mythic and a Ghalta stands a strong chance of at least breaking even.

Commentary
For all the financial love in Rivals, Ixalan remains supreme. Vraska's Contempt continues to soar, further increasing Ixalan's powerhouse suite of rares. It is exceedingly unusual for a set's value to rest more in it rares than mythics, but it's a reality here that's made Ixalan a paradise of value. A smidgen of math puts this well into perspective: mythics represent a third of a box's value in Rivals but only 5% in Ixalan. This culminates to a staggering consistency of return. Half of all boxes are around expected value, with the other half split above and below. The boxes that miss the top rares still average close to $70 of value. The consistency and high return make this set a box cracker's dream.

Commentary
It's been a year since Nimble Obstructionist saw $2, but recent gains in Modern have her returning to her former glory. UR Aggro has been making top appearances there, and this weekend's Pro Tour features Modern prominently. If UR Aggro makes a splash here, grab some copies quickly as Obstructionist could easily double in price again.

Commentary
Aether Revolt will not go quietly into the night, posting another week of gains even as the end approaches. Ironically, many of these small spikes are centered around current Standard fluctuations. This is a capricious time with a ticking clock, but players are enjoying it while they can. This weekend features Standard in the Pro Tour, and no one wants to sit idle for the next two months. It should go without saying to sell into the buzz and offload everything non-eternal you can here.

Commentary
Spirebluff Canal has hit its lowest price ever, and I absolutely recommend picking some up. Rotation fever has set in, but this is a card that will rise over time. Red-blue has always been a strong color combination in eternal formats, and the fast lands have more than proven themselves to be eternal-worthy lands. This is especially in modern, as even the aforementioned rising deck UR Aggro runs a playset. This has been one of the key cards to watch during rotation, and the time is here.

Circling back to Nexus of Fate, it will be most interesting to see how Wizards responds. Of course, how they do is of utmost important to any investment therein. Although we've had a previous Buy-a-Box exclusive with Firesong and Sunspeaker, it has never seen any substantial play. Nexus has begun to, and it's making the key difference here. Will Wizards try to course correct and offer a reprint - perhaps as an FNM Promo? Or will Wizards double down and make this stand so future buyers go to their local game store in hopes of a repeat? I always urge financial caution when everything rides on Wizard's reaction, and their MTGO announcement shows they're absolutely willing to adjust. It's honestly a gamble either way, but selling now is the safe bet that guarantees solid returns.
