This weekly article series covers all expansion sets and masterpiece series sets in Standard, from the time of their prerelease to the time of their rotation out of Standard. Currently, this covers all sets in the Kaladesh, Amonkhet, and Ixalan blocks, as well as the Inventions and Invocations masterpiece series sets. Promotional sets, special sets, pack foils, and non-set releases are not covered.

Ixalan is here! Well ok, it's just now prerelease weekend, so these are all preorder prices, but close enough! While the trio of planeswalkers will of course take the top spots - especially for preorder - I find it very interesting that they are all beaten out by a big fat green creature and a way to ramp into him.
Preorder prices are always inflated, but I feel Carnage Tyrant is extra inflated. Granted, Carnage Tyrant is a powerhouse of a beat stick, but it's rare for pure beat sticks to command top tier prices. It might make a large impact at first, but the meta will adjust. If you pull a Carnage Tyrant anytime soon, I recommend selling while it's this high. Even if it climbs a few more dollars in the next week or so, I full expect it to fall quickly thereafter.
Growing Rites of Itlimoc, however, I would not be nearly so quick to dismiss. It's not as strong as a pure Gaea's Cradle, obviously, but it adds the effect to both Standard and Modern. Additionally, budget and Commander decks would both love to be able to use the effect without paying the nearly $300 price tag of Cradle. Given that it's a rare, I don't know if it'll continue to beat out the mythic planeswalker trio, but it will assuredly be a marquee card for some time.
For the rest of the set, we are of course inflated on most cards. What will maintain most of it's current price and what will not depends on how the new meta shapes up. This prerelease weekend will give players a chance to really get a feel for the new cards, so cards should start shifting towards their actual prices over the next week. Watch for cards that spike after this weekend, they very well might continue in that direction.

The Scarab God continues to climb, as it is becoming a dominating force in Standard. Even if the new meta balances against Scarab God, it has definitely proven itself to be a fierce card that can't be dismissed for the rest of its life in Standard.
The rest of the set has been declining. No longer the new shiny kid on the block, Hour of Devastation is starting its slow contraction period. While Ixalan will undoubtedly cause some upward movement here and there, the set will overall slowly fall downward at least until the November Pro Tour.

Gideon has been steadily rising since the new Legendary Planeswalker rule was announced. This rise is fueled mainly by eternal formats, as there are no other Gideon planeswalkers in standard. Gideon of the Trials will be in Standard for another year, however; so there is very strong potential for him to skyrocket should another Gideon be printed.
Glorybringer is the only other card in Amonket to see significant change, although it would be stretch to call it truly compelling. Glorybringer has hovered around the $5 mark for three of it's past five months in Standard. It is undoubtedly a good card, but is still waiting for a domineering deck to take it to the top.

All is quiet in Invocations, as it has been for the past couple weeks. Invocations lost 1.5%, which is a perfectly respectable depreciation. Even Spell Pierce has quieted down, landing around the $70 mark.

Metallic Mimic continues it's five-month climb, reaching another new high. As the rest of the set gently depreciates, Metallic Mimic has been slowly overtaking the other cards in the set. Soon it may even overtake Fatal Push and Heart of Kiran, being second only to Ballista.
The set overall has been holding impressively steady. In the past month, the rare slot average, total set value, and booster box values have all remained effectively static. The lack of change is profound.

Chandra was the only Kaladesh card to see significant change. She is now reapproaching her preorder price. Considering she's not a typical 3-of or 4-of in any current top-tier Standard deck, she actually has room to increase further. All she needs is the right deck to put her back in the marquee light of Standard, and she may rise to previous Jace levels.

Hangarback Walker is calming down from its buyout a couple weeks ago. Beyond that, Inventions saw several $5-10 movements, but nothing overly substantial. Although its seen some recent decline, the set stayed within half a percent of its value this week.
Overall Summary
All eyes are upon Ixalan and the new Standard it will bring. With Battle for Zendikar, Oath of the Gatewatch, Shadows over Innistrad, and Eldritch Moon all rotating out as Ixalan becomes legal, we're destined to see a large shakeup of the meta. With large meta changes comes large price changes, so keep an eye on how the top tier decks unfold. There could easily be a sleeper card that triples its value overnight, and as this weekend's prerelease allowed players to get a real feel for the cards - those price jumps could start happening at any moment.
