MTG Salvation

There seems to be a little confusion as far as Twitch/MTGSalvation.

MTGSalvation is owned by Curse/Twitch. You are not providing Twitch with any information it doesn't already have. You're simply going through a process that will consolidate the information into one place, so that there aren't multiple servers housing personal information.

The answer is still no. No matter how many times you try to justify it. I'm sick of consolidation. I'm sick of merging accounts. I'm sick of crap like Arc and Glyph. I'm sick of websites asking for too much information. If I'm forced to merge MTG Salvation and Twitch, I just won't use either. Several people have mentioned not having Twitch accounts, and no desire to have one. This nonsense coupled with stifling, biased overmoderation on the site is going to be the death of it, and good riddance if that's the future.

Well this site mostly died for me shortly after curse took over. Trades/sales dried up and the navigation quality of the site made it where it wasn't worth it anymore. Now we are being forced into yet again another merger. I've been a member for almost 7 years, been through some really good times and made some awesome deck building threads. 488 sales/trades. But yeah, I'm not making a twitch account, I don't go on twitch and don't want one. So I guess that's it for me. Thanks for the memories, MTGS.

It would be funny if everyone who left due to this bull***** went to MOTL and made that site lively again.

No. If that is the only option, I just won't use MTGSal.

I already have separate accounts for mmo-champ (Curse, I assume), MTGS (from before merging with curse, so not a curse account, I assume) and Twitch. I do NOT have facebook account of any kind, and I'm not making one either. Good thing this merge is with twitch and not with facebook. At least I have a possibility of continuing. I'm just not sure which accounts will be merged in the end.

About passwords, I have over 300 sites where I have some kind of username and password, and each of those has a different password.

Ugh, fine. Apparently because some people can't figure out the simple rule to have different passes on different sites I am forced to join my twitch and M:TGsalvation accounts. All this does is do it so that if Twitch is hacked, they get access to all our different account. It will not make us safer, it will only make Twitch a bigger target.

But fine, whatever.

Even the replies from the MTG admins seems to not answer questions directly. Basically, all I'm reading is "it will be easier for them to maintain the system." "Easier to maintain" does not mean "more secure." It just means it's less likely someone in-house screws something up or overlooks something.

Here's what I want to know: If this merger happens and people stick around, is the functionality of MTG Salvation going to return? Right now, there are still piles of problems that have been noted and still not fixed. If not, what's the point of the merger from a user standpoint?

I did my best to explain the question as to why it helps security.
Let me try again.

Person A has 47 different accounts on various websites. If any of those 47 sites is breached, his personal information is now had by hackers. More than likely, that person didn't use 47 different passwords, so they probably have access to a multitude of other sites. Even if not, that person is relying on all of those websites not being hacked.

Person B has an account on Facebook. He then uses his Facebook account to sign in on 47 different websites. If any of those 47 websites gets breached.. the hackers get grand total of his facebook name, and nothing else.

This is the general overview for single sign on.

MTGS/Curse are owned by Twitch. Currently, everyone has a Curse account which spans all of curse's sites and infrastructure. There is, of course, overlap between the Curse and Twitch infrastructure as the merger matures. Trying to keep curse accounts separate from twitch accounts across a multitude of sites and servers, with different systems and protocols, is the antithesis of good security measures.

and what if Facebook gets breached? The hacker immediately gets access to 47 websites.

Person C uses good security measures and doesn't give his personal information on accounts that don't need it. If any individual of the 47 accounts get breached, he loses essentially nothing (maybe he temporarily loses the ability to *****post about magic the gathering cards).

Person D uses twitch for everything. Twitch gets hacked. He loses access to all 47 accounts.

I disagree with the whole security issue. As has been pointed out, it just makes Twitch a bigger target.

Also, what about the functionality of MTG Salvation? Is it being worked on? Does the user account change help?

I have a twitch account. I don't like linking accounts because if twitch gets compromised (and every major account system eventually gets hacked), everything gets compromised. And then what? I might create an extra twitch account just for this, but I don't think that will really help.

I will not get onto Twitch to keep using this forum. I will stop using it and go elsewhere.
