Welcome to the Magic Market Index. This article series documents the price changes of cards currently in print. This article will track how cards go from release to its time out of Standard, and as long as deemed necessary for non-Standard sets, as well as offer insight into what cards to invest in and what to ignore. The Magic market is a dangerous place, and this article is here to help guide players and speculators through the murky waters to greater returns.
This article will be updated once a week, usually on Thursday. Currently, this article series is tracking Conspiracy 2: Take the Crown, Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, Battle for Zendikar Block (Oath of the Gatewatch, Battle for Zendikar, Zendikar Expeditions) and Shadows over Innistrad Block (Shadows over Innistrad and Eldritich Moon). There are no current plans to track any promo sets, pack foils, or non-set releases. Otherwise, if it can be opened in a pack, it will be covered.
Card prices are picked on Thursday morning from TCG Player mid price, the price used by many for trading cards for cards. Going by the selling price involves whether to go by Ebay, TCG Player low, Star City Games, or another vendor. It is just simpler and cleaner to go by the trade value of TCG Player mid. Comments about cards are the opinions of the author, and should not be taken as facts or divine intervention. That said, comments and predictions are based on data and experience, not on idle speculation or an attempt to move certain cards. Cards that are worth $2.00 USD or more will be on the list. If a card is worth $1.99 or less, it will not appear on the list even if it was on the previous week.

Overall Summary
The state of the Magic market is in a state of excitement and is quite healthy.
There were two premier events last weekend. Worlds had three Bant decks and one Emerge deck. Not the greatest of diversity, but it was not unexpected in such a high stakes tournament filled with most of the best Magic the Gathering players. Since there was nothing truly revolutionary to come out of the tournament, the meta should not be any different. SCG Richmond, on the other hand, had a few decks in the top 8 and even though the winner was Bant Company, the U/G Crush deck took second place. Green is definitely the dominant color in these final days of Standard.
Kaladesh has started being spoiled. So far a lot of the cards are quite interesting. It is hard to evaluate cards until most of the set is known, but it is a set that is taking risks and that can either lead to a strong set or a horrible set. In the past, it has usually lead to great set. The mechanics are interesting, but not likely to go beyond the flavor of this plane. A lot of the mythics feel worthy of casual play and might see competitive play. Right now the top picks for play are the enemy fastlands, the planeswalkers, and Rashmi, Eternities Crafter. There will be a review of the set once it is officially spoiled and all the cards have a price on TCG Player.
Now is the time to sell your excess Standard that is rotating. Unless it has applications outside of Standard, you should dump the cards you do not need. There will be a full review of the two sets next week. The sets will stop being tracked once they rotate out of Standard in the article on October 6.
