Welcome to the Magic Market Index. This article series documents the price changes of cards currently in print. This article will track how cards go from release to its time out of Standard, and as long as deemed necessary for non-Standard sets, as well as offer insight into what cards to invest in and what to ignore. The Magic market is a dangerous place, and this article is here to help guide players and speculators through the murky waters to greater returns.
This article will be updated once a week on Thursday. Currently, this article series is tracking Eternal Masters, Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, Battle for Zendikar Block (Oath of the Gatewatch, Battle for Zendikar, Zendikar Expeditions) and Shadows over Innistrad Block (Shadows over Innistrad and Eldritich Moon). There are no current plans to track any promo sets, pack foils, or non-set releases. Otherwise, if it can be opened in a pack, it will be covered.
Card prices are picked on Thursday morning from TCG Player mid price, the price used by many for trading cards for cards. Going by the selling price involves whether to go by Ebay, TCG Player low, Star City Games, or another vendor. It is just simpler and cleaner to go by the trade value of TCG Player mid. Comments about cards are the opinions of the author, and should not be taken as facts or divine intervention. That said, comments and predictions are based on data and experience, not on idle speculation or an attempt to move certain cards. Cards that are worth $2.00 USD or more will be on the list. If a card is worth $1.99 or less, it will not appear on the list even if it was on the previous week.

Overall Summary
The state of the Magic market is shaken but still healthy.
The drop of a lot of Standard cards is not a great thing but it is no reason to panic. There are two factors at work here. First is Bant Company is starting to retake its position as the top deck in Standard and pushing out a lot of the great new decks that were developed. Once Collected Company leaves the format, the format will open up. Since the main deck of the format is a deck that has a specific shelf life, many are not wanting to invest in the deck. The second is people are looking to what reprints will be in Conspiracy 2: Take the Crown. This has been an interesting set so far and it has take up a lot of attention.
Conspiracy 2: Take the Crown has provided with some really great reprints and some really interesting new cards. It looks like a box might not be a bad investment, but only until the set is fully spoiled can that determination be made. When the set is completely and officially spoiled then that determination can be made, and this article series will go over the cards. There will be an exit review for Eternal Masters to were the set and it card's values will go.

Posted Aug 19, 2016I felt it was clear when I stated that I am using TCGPlayer and not MCM, but I can add that it is based off the US card market. I tried getting an article series going based on MCM and the European market, but that deal fell through with the person I was going to have write it. I do not have the time to do another series.
