Welcome to the Magic Market Index. This article series documents the price changes of cards currently in print. This article will track how cards go from release to its time out of Standard, and as long as deemed necessary for non-Standard sets, as well as offer insight into what cards to invest in and what to ignore. The Magic market is a dangerous place, and this article is here to help guide players and speculators through the murky waters to greater returns.
This article will be updated once a week on Thursday. Currently, this article series is tracking Eternal Masters, Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, Battle for Zendikar Block (Oath of the Gatewatch, Battle for Zendikar, Zendikar Expeditions) and Shadows over Innistrad. There are no current plans to track any promo sets or other non-set releases. If it can be opened in a pack, it will be covered.
Card prices are picked on Thursday morning from TCGplayer mid price, the price used by many for trading cards for cards. Going by the selling price involves whether to go by Ebay, TCGplayer low, Star City Games, or another vendor. It is just simpler and cleaner to go by the trade value of TCGplayer mid. Comments about cards are the opinions of the author, and should not be taken as facts or divine intervention. That said, comments and predictions are based on data and experience, not on idle speculation or an attempt to move certain cards. Cards that are worth $2.00 USD or more will be on the list. If a card is worth $1.99 or less, it will not appear on the list even if it was on the previous week.

Overall Summary
The state of the Magic market is losing value as expected. but is still healthy
Eternal Masters is a decent reprint set. The draft format looks weak overall, but this is not a set that is really draftable. It's not so much in terms of card pools, but rather the cost. Most drafts are running around $45-50 s a shot, which is very high It might be worth it to do one, but not more than a few. Packs also seem to be on the rise in terms of their cost. Overall, the set is okay. If you want certain cards, go buy the singles. If you want to open value, this is better than opening packs from Zendikar block. While a lot of decks are not going to go done in buy in cost, Burn will be really cheap now, as the last two expensive cards in the were reprinted.
For Standard, white based decks are dominating Standard such as W/B Control, Bant Company, W/x Human decks, and G/W Tokens. G/R Ramp and blue-based control decks are the only thing making appearances. Note, that means there are six decks doing well, which is a great.
Cards to Watch
Previously, these were predicted to spike:
Lumbering Falls: It went off the list, so it definitely did not go up.
This week:
Eldrazi Displacer: This is seeing serious play in several decks.
Kozilek's Return: This is worth getting some copies.

Singles from Eternal Masters: Some went up, most went down.

Posted Jun 17, 2016For reference, I'm currently working such that the MMI needs to be submitted to me by midnight Thursday. This is a departure from how things used to be, since I used to be able to stay up much later. If it misses that deadline, then I get home from work just before 4 PM Pacific time (which is about ten minutes from this post), which is the earliest I can work on it since my work blocks MTGS. (Edit: Wow, "work" three times in one sentence. And I call myself an editor...)
This week's MMI should be up within a half hour, give or take.

When we're talking about $10 MSRP packs, the card that takes up a precious rare slot is important, and therefore this is is a disappointing reprint, at the Rare level. A card just under $3 is fine at the UC level, but at Rare is a disappointment to just about anyone that opens it, less it filled a critical spot in Limited.
Re: your comment on Regal Force "This only increased demand, not much to decrease price.", this is wildly incorrect. On May 23rd, Eventide copies were $14.79 TCG mid, and on release date EMA copies were sub $7. I would consider a drop of 55% a significant drop in price.
This is after the fact, considering the date in which you wrote your summary, but 5 days after release there are 33 different sellers that have them priced below $5, including the cost to ship them, while TCG Mid has them at $5.73, a 61% drop in price.
Is the comment for Maze of Ith supposed to say "cheaper" instead of keeper?
Also, FYI, in the Ichorid comment, the word you're looking for is "dregs", not "dreads".
Finally, why are cards down to $2 even on the list? Considering the MSRP of an EMA pack is 2.5x that of a typical pack, shouldn't the threshold be $5?
Lots of errors in your first attempt to analyze EMA.

Posted Jun 16, 2016I pick the two dollar mark for all packs, regardless of the cost of the pack. It used to be worth more than a dollar, but that filled a lot of cards and my editor wanted me to cut down on it and it was a lot of extra work for me.
Sometimes I make poor word choices. I am only human, and writing 3000 words, I make a few bad word choice and miss it on my reread.
Imperious Perfect was an honest mistake that I thought was an uncommon until I saw one opened in the rare slot. That said, it would suck to open that as a rare.
I was going purely by the increase from $6.16 up to $7.50, not what the older print copies are going for compared to the new ones. You are welcome to do that on your own. That is way beyond what I want to do with Eternal Masters. I was explaining why it went up for the week.
And the tokens went down. It was not unexpected, but it was nice for a little.
