It is said that a single picture can be worth more than a thousand words.

This one, well, it's worth $200 in train fairs, getting up at 6:00am and getting home at midnight, spending eight of those hours traveling... and a thousand words.

Let's just make it a million words instead, why not?

Wow, that totally sucks...I was in a traditional hotel near Peace Park itself and I found the trip to Miyajima really boring >_>. The musuem is the awesome, very very confronting (neato wax models). I went during Starry Night Festival (Golden Week 'n all), there were candles and a stack of instruments (symphony I think?) playing by the riverside.

Very nice shot though. Hope you enjoyed the trip, 8 hour commute is pretty dedicated.

Actually, you are totally right! This is Miyajima, a small island near Hiroshima.

I live in Yonago, which is four hours by train from Hiroshima. Yesterday, I did this:

-Go to Hiroshima (7:30-11:00am)
-Witness Peace Memorial Park
-Enjoy the Hanakairo (Flower Festival) going on there
- Visit the Peace Museum... Just wow. Totally sobering stuff. Incredibly moving.
- Walk a few blocks and visit Hiroshima Castle
- Take the street car for an HOUR, and then the ferry to Miyajima island
-Take that picture with the giant Tori
-Take the street car for an HOUR back
-Go home (another four hours)
-Get home after midnight

That was quite a day, let me tell you.

Is that Miya-jima/Island off near uh...*accesses memory*, Hiroshima? I remember a huge thingy like that when I went. Cool shot though...there aren't actually people in the shot. Awesome.

I'm totally wrong though right? >_>
