Match 1:
Went against a mono red deck. his build played geopede. it was pretty strong. First round i lost. kept forgetting that geopede had first stike. in other words i deserved to lose that round. Second round i smoked him. doing what jund does best. plays cards that arent even in my hand. Round 3 was like the same thing over again. even being on the draw i out tempo'd mono red. tough match. but i drew perfectly.
Match 2:
Went against a form of esper control. probobly my favorite control deck in the format right now. but by far the hardest match up ive ever had since building jund. he played spreading seas, sphinx of jwar isle. it was nonsense. since the mana is already a little sketchy, turning my lands into islands seemed good for him. very very tough match. i lost.
Match 3:
Went against some white weenie deck. no competition. it just couldnt keep up. i swept.
Match 4:
very interesting match. i thought i was going against mirror. but he splashed white for ajani vengent, path, and purge. i lost the first round. but wrecked the next two rounds. nothing really interesting. just jund on jund action. which means who can play garruk or broodmate first? i won that match.
so i ended up placing 5th. my tie-breakers werent fantastic. so i got kinda screwed. but i did get to see an amazing bant deck. knight of the reliquary is sooooo damn good. building that deck next.
side board two or three of these guys in the gurruk version of jund. seems rediculous!
it also seems that if you play smartly, which most mtg players seem not to do so well, thornling sticks around once hitting the table. has to be rfg'd. as far as mirror match goes. instant game winner.
wasnt too sure if i wanted to post this because i was gonna keep it on the down low while i wreck people at FNM with mr. thornling. but i do want to hear what you all have to say bout the matter. please forgive the "cocky" content of this post, but it just seems like a no-brainer SB card. curious as to why people havent played it seriously yet.
hate the deck. played it last night because my deck wasnt built yet and my friend had the boros bushwacker deck built. stupid deck, too situational and i saw alot of other decks shine last night that stomped me. when the deck worked it was awesome. but only working 2 out of 5 rounds isnt good enough. never done so bad at an FNM.
So is this jank or is it hella tech that could see play in a U/B, possibly esper control deck? been messing around with it, and being a control player I got kinda excited when i stumbled on this slightly tech play. i knew i liked into the roil in the sealed format but now i really like this card.
the only problem ive been seeing is the 3 black mana it costs for the gatekeeper. so its a toss up doing just U/B or Esper.
here is the deck ive been messing around with.
Main Deck
Courier's Capsule x4
Jace Beleren x4
Gatekeeper of Malakir x4
Day of Judgement x3
Path to Exile x3
Negate x4
Into the Roil x4
Sphinx of Lost Truths x3
Soul Manipulation x2
Essance Scatter x2
Sphinx of the Steel Wind x1
So im here to discuss Great Sable Stag and whether or not it has a place in the Main Deck or Side Board of the Jund deck. Which in my oppinion is the only clear tier 1 deck currently in Standard.
I was in love with Great Sable Stag from the moment i saw it. It seems amazing in mirror match, and the fact that you cascade into it seems really strong. My opinion is to Main Deck it and if necessary side it out.
