My group that plays edh every weekend that consist of ten plus people, now all of sudden every person except me and like 2 others are playing every land destruction, board destruction, and it gets annoying cause it makes our games last way to long than they are suppose to!
it wouldnt be so bad though if only like one person had it in their deck but when you play a multiplayer game and 3 out of 4 all play that same stuff, it just makes the games not fun anymore and makes us not want to play edh any more with our group. Edh is suppose to be fun and not annoying !
I dislike Obliterate as an EDH card because it does not progress the game (i.e. outside of Jhoira decks, it won't leave the caster in a better position than everyone else, it's simply being vindictive). If Armageddon is being used as a stall tactic, that's... dissapointing (and you can help yourself out a lot by stocking a lot of artifact mana, most of which is simply C/UC). I really doubt banning Armageddon would help though. What about Ruination? It's arguably a LOT more devastating because it can easily wipe the majority of everyone's land-base except for the red mage's. Then there's Catastrophe, Cataclysm, Decree of Annihilation (not even counterable), Devastation, and several others.
Technically, the reason that you have more time to rebuild is because you have 40 starting life, not 99 starting cards.
It's a casual format, and what's important is that people are having fun. If a lot of the group finds Armageddon effects unfun (but feel that they need to play them to compete), sit down and chat with your group about scaling back on such effects.
Dude, you have 100 freakin' cards in your deck. You have more time than a constructed 60 card deck does to rebuild yourself. Stop complaining, and find answers to your opponent's stuff.
Iona, Shield of Emeria should be banned before either of those two. At least you can recover from all your lands being destroyed. Mono-colored decks are locked out of the game entirely, and multicolor decks get their answers shut out.

Dig up some artifact accel, Crucible of Worlds, Sacred Ground, Karmic Justice, Planar Birth... or just play Terravore.

iona's only problematic when it's one-on-one. but yeah, it is quite brutal and probably should be banned.
