Why I hate DC and why Marvel is God
Then we get to Batman. The second superhero I despise. What billionaire in his right mind is gonna put his life on the line night in and night out to keep a city safe? Really? And just out of the goodness of his heart? Another thing that I hate is that Bruce Wayne always fights crime at night. Damn, these supervillains he goes up against are about as smart as those civilians around Superman. Here's an idea: take over Gotham City during the DAYTIME! Bruce ain't gonna come after you unless it's pitch-black outside.
There's more, but I wanna get on to why Marvel is the King of Comics. First off, most of Marvel's superheroes have this other thing called Life to worry about. Spider-Man has to worry about an actual job, a girlfriend, bills, and everything else we have to worry about in our lives. Then you have the X-Men. If Superman had to put up with a tenth of the **** that the X-Men have to go through every ****ing day, he would turn into an emo ***** (well, an even worse one than he is already). Superman is a hero to the whole world. The X-Men? Even when they save a human's life, that human still wants to lynch the mutant.
In the interest of fairness, I'm gonna end it here with 2 examples on why DC sucks donkey balls and 2 examples why, if I was gay and Marvel was a dude, I would totally suck Marvel off. Hell, I would do that anyway, that's how cool Marvel is.
I like the Batman villains. They're just right. Not needlessly complex but not copy pasta either. My fav is actually the Batman: TAS created Harley Quinn. What a character.
And I can't remember where it's from, but I remember a quote along the lines of "The world is for those who live in the daylight. It was built for them to feel safe. It's those who live in the dark that need heroes." The premise being that the daytime has the police and other services to protect, but the night brings out far scarier things than the daylight, so the world needs heroes at night more than the day. Or something.
Oh, and any comic that comes up with a villain as retarded as Penguin deserves to be made fun of.
Superheroes are meant to be larger than life. I like the grandness of DC's superheroes but that may be because I'm a fan of classic literature. Marvel superheroes tend to deal with contemporary issues and thats why they're so popular. DC superheroes are the heroes(and anti-heroes) of greek classics. I don't know of any comics that can manage to be contemporary yet classical. Its hard to manage. Joss Whedon did it with Buffy(the show) but haven't seen its like since.
I agree with you that generally Marvel has many far more compelling characters than DC. Marvel's characters tend on the whole to be much more multi-dimensional where DC tends to be a fair bit more archetypal. But I think Batman is the one character that DC managed to create with a bit of depth. And when explored properly, Batman can be just as compelling s Marvel's characters.
