Been a long while since I animefied any Magic art, the last one was, what, Eternal Witness? And yes that's a comment by the Terese Nielsen.

I'll probably take a long time doing the backgrounds and details, curse you Aleksi Briclot!

Update:

Lineart of the main guy is done, I'll fill him up with base colors first, then move on to the background.

Meanwhile, everyone's free to color him Smile

PM me for original size.

Update 2:

Just base colors so far. I just picked up Shandalar recently from an abandonware site. Can't... stop... playing......

Update 3:

The sky is done, the ground is... tricky. With cel-shading you can't match the number of shades as the original.

Update 4: And we're done!

It's quite a coincidence that this month's Artwork contest is to draw an anime-themed card.

I use a Wacom Graphire 2, everything there is done using a hard brush.

Palinful? Well... that's why it takes me a whole month to finish that I admit that I'm not the most effective (nor diligent) person, just that I prefer hard-coloring everything than to use the other tools.

Cel-shading takes forever to do, mainly because I have to clean up the edges. The shading for this probbaly took like 10 minutes.

wouldn't that be incredibly painful? How'd you make the shapes? Tablet? Pen? Lasso+fill?

I did the sketch in Artrage 2, then exported it over to Photoshop CS2 for outlining and coloring.
