3 cards that should never have been printed
Three cards define three formats essentially. The firt would be Tarmogyf, it is the single most played card in tournaments currently in both extended and legacy, and was one of the most played backi n its days as a type 2 juggernaut. This card was overpowered and wizards immediately rconized that and promised never to reprint a card of this power level.
Fast foward to magic 2010. Mythic rares have come out, rares that are significantly harder to get then regular rares, and were originally just ment for casual play, not cards that would be format defining. somehow though wizards thought it would be good to print baneslayer angel, a 35 dollar MYTHIC rare that is played in 90% of the tier one decks.
Zendikar, the set everbody is excited about. Then Lotus Cobra, was spoiled, and immediately everyone knew this mythic rare would be seeing lots of play. You know what starcity is selling these at. 30$ and the prerealeses have not even started yet, if you dont get your play set you cant play tournament magic, because there is no excuse not to play four in any competive deck
So, this is two sets in a row that wizards printed format altering rres, is there gonna be one oif these in every set, because if there is either peoples pockets are gonna empty or there gonna have to quit magic
Agree about Goyf too. Great opportunity cost, bad beating on the wallet ($160-$170 a playset on Ebay right now, which is slightly lower than retail (geesh). If you want a slod 1.x deck you gotta drop a G. Seems bad.
I'm not happy about mythic, but the idea that the rarity was ever intended for only cards that wouldn't be popular tournement cards is pure delusion and doesn't have any basis in anything an official source has ever said.
Equally incorrect is the notion that Baneslayer Angel is played in "90% of the tier one decks". A simple glance at PTQ decklists show that that's completely untrue.
