So lets say the attacking creature is 4/4 with trample and the blocking creature is 2/2. I unsummon the 2/2 after declaring it as a blocker. Would I be dealt the full 4 damage or only 2 damage? Please explain. Thanks.

Can I declare a creature as a blocker then unsummon it from combat (when I receive priority) preventing any and all damage (to my blocking creature and myself) by the attacking creature?

    Thanks in advance.

Say I have Mana Reflection and Mirari's Wake out. I tap say, a Selesnya Sanctuary. How much mana would that give me exactly? My guess is 5, but I just wanted to be sure.

    You are correct.

    1. Mana Reflection doubles mana. This is not a triggered ability given the word "instead"

    2. Selesnya Taps for 4 mana (due to mana reflection's static ability)

    3. Mirari's Wake's ability triggers and is put on the stack

If Mirari's Wake resolves appropriately then your mana totals 5.

You are free to cut, shuffle, or decline to modify his deck as you see fit. As a joke, I often cut the top half of my opponent's deck, then move the bottom half to the other side of it, then put the top back on it.

    2. During combat phase - if one of my attacking creatures is blocked and dies, am I able to sacrifice it - provided I have an instant, or say a land card that let's me tap to sacrifice a creature "to draw a card" (for example)? I am a little hazy on the order in which things apply to the stack. Does my creature simply die immediately? I realize I couldn't cast a sorcery to sacrifice it, but if I had a land or an instant that let me sac it - could I?

    Thank you.

Question 1 has been clearly answered, but to be very clear on your choices for question 2 (without confusing you with technical rules):

When your attacking creature has been assigned a blocker you may:

    1) Continue with combat damage (apparently resulting in the demise of your creature)

    OR

    2) Sacrifice your attacking creature (using the instant or land as you described) before actual combat damage is dealt.

    I hope this helps.

  • posted a message on Grim Lavamancer and Royal Assassin - The Stack
Could someone please explain to me (clearly) the stack effect and outcome of the following scenario:

    Player 1 has Grim Lavamancer
    Player 2 has Royal Assassin

Player 1 taps the Grim Lavamancer and uses its ability to deal 2 damage to Player 2's Royal Assassin.

Player 2, in response, taps the Royal Assassin to destroy the Grim Lavamancer

Will the Grim Lavamancer's ability still resolve to destroy the Royal Assassin? Why or why not?

  • posted a message on Inferno Titan and Lord of the Unreal
My friend cast inferno titan and I had Lord of the Unreal and Phantasmal Dragon in play. He divided the damage: 2 to Lord of the Unreal and 1 to Phantasmal Dragon.

My question is, how is the damage delt? Can my phantasmal dragon be the target of this ability since Lord of the Unreal is still technically in play?

    Help!

    Thanks....

If a player targets one of my creatures with "Ice Cage" can I use "Crimson Mage" to target that creature, give it haste (even though it has been in play for several turns) and break the cage?
