Thanks for the responses guys. I definitely have a lot to think about... and yet, it all seems so simple. Perhaps I may have been overthinking this deck.
At this point I think I'm going to simply go the Eldrazi Monument route, and forget about Biorhythm. Monument alone should be enough to forge a win. You were all very helpful.

Dec 18, 2013Hi all,Posted in: Multiplayer
I'm constructing a new deck for multiplayer. There is relatively little removal and a fair bit of creature theft in my casual meta right now, so I figured that Elves would be a great choice, since they are relatively unappealing to steal on their own without any synergy. There are a fair bit of flying creatures in my meta however. Which is why I want my wincons to be not only Biorhythm, but also Eldrazi Monument, which will also help me block flyers.
I only have a shell of the deck so far. Looks like this:
DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creatures
4 Elvish Mystic
4 Fyndhorn Elves
4 Elvish Archdruid
1 Dense Foliage
4 Eldrazi Monument
What other Elves should I choose that would work best with my gameplan, and also, what other card synergies or draw engines would be best? I already own most of the popular elf cards, so budget is of no concern.
Jan 31, 2013Hello friends,Posted in: Casual & Related Formats
I'm looking to build a duel deck to combat my current casual meta filled with burn, affinity, and Exarch-Twin combo. I was thinking a GW Hatebear deck with perhaps a splash of black would be the best way to combat this meta. Here are the cards I'm considering so far:
Any help would be appreciated. Perhaps some cards, such as Illness would do better in the sideboard when I'm actually facing those Matchups. I haven't begun to start the land base yet.
Jan 1, 2013I generally do not have that problem, because usually when I cast Lurking Predators there are least one or two other creature cards in my hand. I usually won't play these unless I have to, and instead let Predator do the work. So even if there is a Wrath, I'll still have some gas in hand (or man-lands, or Garruk), and Wrath doesn't answer Lurking Predators itself, which should refill your board quickly. You just have to be careful not to over-commit.Posted in: Multiplayer
Also, you should run Genesis.
Jan 1, 2013I play a Lurking Predators deck as well, and I vastly prefer the red splash for Wolf Run, as well as Mage Slayer. Those two cards alone are well worth the splash, as they add both inevitability and a way to get around other creatures/annoying effects in multiplayer.Posted in: Multiplayer
I would highly recommend reconsidering a red splash, and Lurking Predators in general... unless you want to play tokens.
Dec 10, 2012Hi all,Posted in: Multiplayer
I'm trying to build a new deck that abuses the power of Elementals in multiplayer. Particularly Taurean Mauler, Forgotten Ancient, Multani, Maro-Sorcerer and the like. So far, the list below has been playing pretty well on Cockatrice, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something.
Gruul ElementalsMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creatures
4 Taurean Mauler
4 Forgotten Ancient
3 Hound of Griselbrand
3 Rockslide Elemental
2 Scourge of Geier Reach
2 Multani, Maro-Sorcerer
2 Defense of the Heart
2 Triumph of Ferocity
2 Hull Breach
4 Kessig Wolf Run
4 Stomping Ground
4 Wooded Foothills
2 Rootbound Crag
Sometimes I notice that this deck might benefit from more one-sided board sweepers, and occasionally Firespout isn't enough. Replace it with Earthquake maybe? Also, are 2 Browbeats and 2 Triumph of Ferocity enough card draw? I love Browbeat, it's just such a fun card to play no matter what, but maybe replacing it altogether with Triumph or more Defense of the Heart would be a better idea.
Nov 21, 2012I guess Day of Judgment works better if you're using Knight, but I don't see how Knight really factors into the lifegain plan.Posted in: Casual & Related Formats
I still think the deck could be fine-tuned. If you're going the soul sisters/lifegain route, you might as well go all in with it. I'd remove some of the extraneous stuff that doesn't really fit into that gameplan, like Orim's Chant, Honor of the Pure, Mentor of the Meek, and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, for other things that do. Also get rid of the 3 Arrests for some kind of board sweepers, and you only need 2 really, if multiplayer is your thing.
Bump Serra Ascendant up to 4, and add in 4 Soul's Attendant. Other ideas - Ranger of Eos to get your sisters out, Martyr of Sands for some quick lifegain, Felidar Sovereign and/or Test of Endurance as an alternate win-con to beating down with huge Pridemates.
Nov 21, 2012The OP sounded like he plays this deck a lot in multiplayer. If so, toss the spot removal for some good white board sweepers. Wrath of God or Terminus. Spot removal is pretty lackluster when there is more than one opponent.Posted in: Casual & Related Formats
Oct 25, 2012Thanks for the suggestions.Posted in: Multiplayer
Had a chance to test in a multiplayer game again, and the deck performed quite well once more. I came away with the win. I know it's a bit early for final judgments, but I think this deck is really quite powerful. I think the maindeck can be called done.
As for sideboarding options... I'm sure my playgroup will eventually catch on to my winning streak and start boarding in the artifact hate. Any good sideboard cards to counter it? I liked the Buried Ruin idea. Someone in my playgroup is also playing a KikiTwin deck in multiplayer, which sometimes can be hard to stop. Any suggestions for good hate for that?
Oct 23, 2012I agree, I actually like Heartseeker so far. I think it basically gives this deck some spot removal capabilities when it needs to have them. Meanwhile, SoBaM has been a bit underwhelming. It certainly helped in the match I played last night, but I feel like it could have been something even better.Posted in: Multiplayer
Thanks for all the input, everyone - this deck is shaping up to be pretty awesome!
-1 Sword of Body and Mind, +1 Elbrus, the Binding Blade
While I'm at it, does anyone have any other good equipments they would like to suggest?
Oct 23, 2012Yup, here it is.Posted in: Multiplayer
DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creatures - 19
4 Mother of Runes
4 Stoneforge Mystic
4 Squadron Hawk
4 Puresteel Paladin
3 Stonehewer Giant
Enchantments - 6
4 Luminarch Ascension
2 Land Tax
Spells - 2
2 Wrath of God
Artifacts - 8
1 Argentum Armor
1 Loxodon Warhammer
1 Sword of Body and Mind
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
1 Sword of Light and Shadow
1 Umezawa's Jitte
Land - 25
4 Ancient Den
4 Darksteel Citadel
2 Mistveil Plains
1 Kjeldoran Outpost
As you can see I am already down to 2 Wraths and would probably like to keep it that way. Maybe cutting my weakest equipment for Elbrus, the Binding Blade might be a good choice, although they are all pretty good.
Oct 22, 2012Further changes:Posted in: Multiplayer
-1 Wrath of God, +1 Plains
-1 Stonehewer Giant, +1 Darksteel Citadel
So I'm now up to 25 lands in the deck. This, plus Land Tax, seems enough to sustain me throughout the game. I only had a chance to play one actual FFA game so far, but the deck performed quite well. I ended up winning handily, and this deck also seems to be fairly resilient to board wipes, so long as you don't overextend too much. Squadron Hawk, Mistveil Plains, and Kjeldoran Outpost really help with that.
Elbrus, the Binding Blade seems like a good card for this deck. The question is what to cut for it?
Oct 21, 2012An interesting question I was pondering, because being a musician, I myself am something of an artist. I began to think what color that would make me most aligned with.Posted in: Magic Storyline
Red is the color of passion, emotion, impulse, and chaos... and according to the MTG Salvation Wiki on red, self-expression is a heavily red quality.
Sure, I consider myself a passionate person who is in touch with his emotions, especially when I create music, but other than that, I don't feel like a very "Red" person. I hate disorder and chaos - I thrive on order, structure, and I don't oppose the idea of a comprehensive, orderly government and I don't endorse anarchy. I definitely do not consider myself a person who acts on impulse. I like to strategize and plan my actions. (Perhaps this is why I haven't found a really good Red deck I enjoy yet... :p)
So, is art and are artists exclusively Red? Or are things like art and music appreciated by all color ideologies, except that each color finds value in different forms of art?
Oct 20, 2012Point taken on Mistveil Plains vs. Emeria, the Sky Ruin.Posted in: Multiplayer
-1 Emeria, -1 Wrath of God
+1 Mistveil Plains, +1 Sword of Body and Mind
Now, time to do some actual testing with this deck and see how 23 lands holds up.
