I don't get why the Satyr is good Frown Is it just because red doesn't get just 2/1's for 1 like white?

    Yes.

2/1's for 1 are amazing in any color, even white.

Try playing a cube, you will see what I mean.

There is no red spell at turn one that can deal 4 damage to a player. I have no idea where your getting you information from. Vexing devil is broken because if you don't take the damage your opponent gets a 4/3 that they can enchant to give evasion. Vexing devil was one of the reasons aggro decks were so powerful. Also remember Lightning Bolt is only 3 damage and WotC don't like reprinting that card cause they feel it can be too powerful.

This New Satyr is awful how anyone can like it is beyond me. Jackal Pup was amazing when it came out due to the fact that the other creatures were mediocre. The minute someone plays a creature, this card loses all worth. It only has 1 toughness and its ability doesn't pump it. Favoured Hoplite will kill this guy and he doesn't even have haste. Vexing devil didn't need haste because if you played him he either turns into a 4 damage burn spell for one mana or a 4/3 on the field (FOR ONE MANA). Jackal Pup was printed at uncommon, this guy doesn't even deserve rare class, let alone an entire article. He won't see play in aggro decks, Akroan Crusader is better because if they try to destroy or exile him, they give you a 1/1 soldier token with haste.

Akroad Crusader is red mana at common! Who do you prefer?

I... I don't even know where to start. Um. Yeah, nobody listen to this guy, he's actually wrong about every single thing here.

Jackal pup! You are back! And you are so much better (as if jackal pup wasn't already one of the best red creatures of all time)!

    Though nowhere near as cute.

Actually, I'm accomplishing exactly what I want to accomplish; you're re-thinking your position, particularly the five second part. I might even go so far as to suggest you try gently helping the people in question the first couple of times before you get to calling judges. By the third round, anyone playing with the card should have either worked out or been told by someone a good way to define random and do pretty well by that point, unless they somehow haven't drawn it yet or something.

So far as "insulting" you, I wasn't. I was suggesting that if you were going to maintain a hardline stance against people who were playing this card just because they didn't come prepared with a variety of methods for determining random numbers - for a card that it's entirely possible they don't know is going to exist, and for which there is almost no precedent to believe would exist (the nearest has been a couple of cards which target random cards in a graveyard, which has a very easy resolution; shuffle them and pick one face down) - particularly so at a low-k casual event, then maybe a game as social as Magic wouldn't be a good fit for you.

But as you're already re-considering the hardline aspect of your stance, then that means there's a pretty good chance that remark was ultimately invalid to begin with; I just had no way of knowing that because you gave no prior evidence of anything but a hardline stance.

So basically I'm making things better for you, me, this forum, and everyone you'll be playing against. A job well done, I daresay. Smile

Time to move it to the PM's methinks?

He's on a hovercraft of some sort. One that crashes into things.

I'm really surprised the forum is so heavily against this card. He's bad, no one is going to play it, and that's fine. I'm glad the card exists. He describes Izzet as a guild really well, and as a standalone card it communicates itself perfectly. Top-down at it's finest in my opinion.

And it restores my faith in Wizards not making exclusively boring, simple, unfun cards.

So I get that Red is random and deals damage to stuff, but can anyone explain how at all is this a Blue card?!? This is not an Izzet card, but a mono Red card. I read a few pages, and see that nobody has pointed this out.

Aside from that grievance, I find the card flavorful, but kind of dumb. Putting this guy out on an open board means that 66% of the time you will hit a target that will harm you. On a clogged board with 3-5 creatures on each side is one of the better situations, but can be terrible if you have another creature with toughness less than 3. The only way this card is good, is if you have zero other board presence, and your opponent has 3+ creatures on board with 2 or less toughness. This would give you a 60% chance to not hit yourself or your own guy. Yuck!!! That still seems bad. Okay maybe 5 creatures on board with 71.4% chance of not hitting yourself or the Goblin. Now the problem with that is you've got an empty board to their 3+ creatures. Man the more I think about this guy the less I want to ever touch him! Card is terribad.

Flying and pinging. Both blue. Yes this card is terribad. But if they are going to make an awful card, I'm happy they made it awesome. Thank god wizards doesn't make every card a Thragtusk or a grizzly bear like these forums would like.

Because then it might be good.

And if it was good, then people might actually play it competitively.

And if people actually played it competitively, then all the gripers in this thread might suddenly have a valid point.

I think, and I'm not sure, that he was making a joke about a certain 3/3 that does do those things that currently sees lots of play.

What a terrible card... The whole "lol red, so random" garbage is terrible. It's not flavorful, it's not fun, it's not strong, it's just... garbage.

I don't mind cards with drawbacks, but cards have to be predictable. If I don't know what my card is going to do, i'm not going to play it.

It's better than blue mill. If not for Sphinx's Revelation and Supreme Verdict (which are only part blue) blue would not be played in standard. Red on the other hand...

So stop whining red mages, we dimir mages are the real victims these days.

ANYWAY... I like this card because: It means wizards is still willing to do crazy stuff that people will ***** about instead of dumbing the game down for any idiot and not having any fun with cards.

I am getting sick of all these etb creatures though... Every sorcery is now a creature. Jeez.

Unless they reprint Nettle Sentinel and That elf that lets you tap over elves for mana, elf ball won't be coming back for a while. Those two are what allows elf ball to keep perpetuating as it does.

FINALLY somebody who understands that getting elves to work with glimpse of nature takes more than an arbor druid.

This card is NOT for elves. It's much more abusable because it's much less narrow. Stop talking elf-ball in standard people.

Beck and call is probably not for elves decks, definitely not for standard elves. It IS for token/recursion/combo decks and could end up being far more powerful.

Glimpse of nature requires you to cast a creature. Beck require you to have a creature ETB.

Somebody is going to break this card HARD.
    Immortal Servitude anyone?

One sided mutilates and surviving against zombies are the idea of this deck. This deck uses Heartless Summoning as a two mana ramp spell rather than a broken combo card, but doesnt suffer much from it's downside. The aggro decks are so fast and I found the mutilate/Tree of Redemption synergy to be good enough to play tree.
