3-2 Our shop "modern open", 21 players playing for total 2 boxes.

Played wargate Bant similar to the one on previous page, but with red for bonfires in the sideboard and kessig wolf run as well as 2 karns.

    2-0 vs Ad nauseum
    2-1 vs living end
0-2 vs Through the Bridge Scapeshift
    0-2 vs Eldrazi Tron
    2-0 vs Merfolks

Not impressed on Wolfbiar Elemental in the maindeck, it might be really good sideboard card.

Back to drawing board, Wargate is a powerfull card and it gives consistency, it is much easier to generate huge amount of mana. We however need to have a faster/more winconditions, ones that can win on the spot (such as looping karns, I did it 5 or 6 times this tournament aroud turn 4-5). Losts of time I could have generated lots of mana but missed on oath/abundant/kiora and could not finish the game.

    Hey Pedros!!

So great to hear from you again!

I'll try to get the testing results posted this evening.

My father has had some issues with his health since being diagnosed with lung cancer. The treatment went well however they greatly reduced his immune system; so we've been in and out of the hospital for the last couple weeks with him catching pneumonia and other viruses/colds. He is being released today; so I will have time to get a few more rounds in and add them to it. On the bright side...he said today that he feels better now than he can ever even remember Smile

Sad to hear about it, glad that everything went well and his going back to health.

I really like the inclusion of wargates, they can create additional dimmension how we can play our game. When I started building around with it, I noticed it created a lot of new slots that helps with consistency of this deck. Just by paying 3 mana we can get our free Nykthos on board. Just why we didn't consider playing it before... It also creates lots of free space we lacked before.

@Fertile Growth - Can you write something about it? Most people here dont like this card (I also dont like it).

@Doubling Season - I would not write this card up. From what I have seen lots of decks currently starts to play 4 Nahiris with 1 Emrakul without playing other stuff like Tooth and Nail or Goryo. Doubling Seasons enable all of our planeswalker to ulti time they comes into play, while some of them dont do much (Garruk and Xenagos creates double tokens, Karn is really hard to kill and can -3 every turn), but they make Kiora, Nahiri and Ral Zarek spectacular as they enable ulti turn they come into play.

This might create another deck, especially how all of those cards works well together and with cloudstone curio. I am interested and will start building versions of this deck ASAP.

I have WAY more to post when I get back (work with Wolfbriar, Nahiri, etc) but I've spent the majority of the last few days tweaking a "Kiora" version if Walker Combo. It all started with my wish to play Wargate to get rid of the clunky draws, multiple and/or turn one copies of Curio, and to increase the consistent speed of Walker Combo...I won't go to far into it without spoiler tags (so I do t take up too much room); but here's the list:

I'll post the current sideboard tonight (although the best part is the 1-of Doubling Season...)after this next round of testing/games. I may end up changing the numbers of things (like change a 3-of to a full set. Etc.) to get the deck as smooth as possible; but the core of the deck and the lines have played pretty much the way I like Walker Combo to play (drawing card after card and quickly overwhtge opponent until you "go infinite". Not a big departure from the way other Walker Combo builds other than the fact that I've won several games just hard-casting Emrakul:)

***ill post the other stuff (sideboarding, etc) when I get back **

    Still waiting for your writeup.

I was convinced with RG Ponza (land destroy), however today I felt that this deck was lacking a lot. This was my first time I went 0-4(0-8) in any modern event I played from the start of the format. Deck looks good, however it cant win fast enought and people will just draw out of the screw.

I am currently interested in both Tooth and Nail and Planeswalker devotion versions. Looking forward for your writeup CurdBros - I loved playing Wargate in eggs, and with the amount of mana we can produce it is great card - a way for tutoring any hate/wincon we have. I am however curious how the hell you ended up with wistful selkie, woodland bellower and eternal witness as well as emrakul in the same deck. We used eternal witness almast always only with command/trap and emrakul with tooth and nail/nahiri. I need to wait a bit...

Not to mention Doubling Seasons - I dont see any way why it should work here (especially without Nahiri).

Did you try to play Tooth and Nail/Planeswalker version of the deck? Similar that we had planeswalkers package/command package/pact package? They share similarities especially now with nahiri.

    Edit:
    Brewing I saw 2 options.

    1) Tooth & Nail inclusion: 8-9 slots (1 emrakul, 1 xenagod, 2-3 nahiri, 4 tooth and nail)
    2) Primal Coommand package (makes Kiora much better): (4 Eternal Witness, 3 Primal Command).

Wargate is briliant inclusion. With this it is possible to play 4 Wargates that makes "virtual" 5-8 Karns, 5-8 Nahiris, 5-8 Garruks, 5-8 Kioras as well as 5-8 Ral Zareks. Notice that both Garruk, Kiora and Ral Zarek can be used for acceleration, Nahiri/Kiora CA/filtering, Karn/Garruk/Nahiri board control.

    Hello there.
If we are looking at blue modern, we should put back those traps back in our deck!
It works great with eternal witness and primeval titan. In deck with pact it is also good to have access to white for restoration angel.
I was running this kind of deck long time ago, and it was awsome in scapeshift/uwr meta. I was also one of few people that didnt hate playing vs control and had possitive win % vs them. Now with all those planeswalkers, shouldnt it be even better?

I've only been able to play in 3 leagues in my time on MTGO so far with my latest list. I went 11-4 overall, going 4-1, 3-2, and 4-1 in each. I punted away two of the matches - one against Affinity, another against UW Eldrazi, and I knew what I did wrong on each misclick, which I attribute not being familiar enough with the interface again. The Strangleroot Geists don't have the explosive "I-Win" turns that BTEs give you, but they give us a lot of game in our bad matchups (Control, GB/X). My other two losses are 1-2 to Merfolk, and 1-2 to UW Eldrazi. Focus on tuning the board for your bad matchups, and change maindeck cards to fix weaknesses. We have a ton of room to work within the shell. The cards are there. We just have to make use of them.

Your list is also more "All-In" Combo as you yourself have admitted and I've observed on stream. If you took a slightly different approach, you'd be having better results I think. What deck's giving you trouble in particular?

    --

Resolving the same Slaughter Games several times against a Blue Tron player thanks to Temur Sabertooth is good.

Here's what I've been running on MTGO since Genesis Hydra's bugged:

SB slots on the cutting block: Ruric Thar, Fracturing Gust, and the 3rd Bonfire.

I've played in some 2-mans as well, and my record with the deck on MTGO is 14-4 so far, which is a small sample size but it feels good and only has felt hopeless once, when I was drawing dead against Merfolk.

What it would look like with genesis hydra not being bugged?

I wrote Nissa's Disciple > Kitchen Finks, so I dont know where I wrote it is good card in a board. Problem with Finks is that it is just too small, and a lifegain is mediocre. People wont point lightning bolt vs it, they would just path to exile it (and we dont have lots of good creatures to path).

Problem with Reclamation sage is that you cant use it instant speed in current version of a deck (nexuses, affinity). I was fan of this card in Chord version, however in this one seal seems much better. It is easier and faster to loop it for CA. It is also a proactive answer, not a reactive one.

On Oath of Chandra it is probably better with testing, however to kill 4+ T creature you need at least 5 mana. I just dont see a matchup where it is better than bonfire, however I just might be wrong on this one. Will need to test Wink

As for flying creatures - if they are not instant speed, I just bonfire them out. If they are nexuses, I have seal of Primordium/Blood Moon. You also play Oath of Chandra, that gets rid of Serra Avenger and early Delver. Only one that is a problem might be restoration angel and UW manland, however they dont see much played right now.

As I you said we might have different thought about SB. For me after sideboard I dont feel like all on synergistic aproach is good, as people bring their own distruption, so often you are just playing worse cards in this slot.

What do you think about Slaughter Games in a current meta? Do we need it in sideboard?

    As for matchups:

With Karn/Command version UR Eldrazi is really bad, as a deck is just too slow. That is why I think in current meta tokens version is a way to go. I am just not sure if I wouldn't preffer to play Elesh Norn in a Craterhoof slot (as I often played like 1 year ago in tutor devotion :P), as Hoof is only an offensive option, while Elesh can play both offensive and deffensive.

Lantern Control - extremely easy with Command/Karn version. They mill you, and you have eternal witness. We have maindeck answers to bridge and a way to shuffle your own deck. In this matchup tokens is much worse.

Burn is better in a command version imo, as you have a 1) way to gain life 2) way to kill eidolon maindeck.

Living End - I think we are just racing. IMO Command version is slightly favoured as you can turn 3 shuffle their graveyard or destroy their mana to delay them, while tokens is only race. This is a combo deck that I think pressures us to have at least some Slaughter Games in a sideboard.

Update on Walker Devotion via Testing

I've recently added back an additional Abundant Growth...they are just so darn good with Oath of Nissa and Cloudstone Curio. I am going to try to get back to three; but I'm fairly ceratain I want to keep at least one Craterhoof Behemoth main.

    Current List:

Of course, the sideboard isn't finished (especially given the meta shake up); but it's getting there (I like a majority of the cards and could see them being permanent fixtures of the board for a while). As always, let me know what you think and I'll keep you up to date on testing findings. Hopefully WOTC can work this Genesis Hydra bug out so we can start playing League and/or Dailies again to get our name out there! The more of us the write them the faster they'll get to it!

    Ok first of all.

Noticed Hoof is back, which is logical with Nissa, Garruk, Xenagos and Elvish Visionary.
I understand lack of BTE as well (imo with Karn version BTEs are just too good. Turn 2-3 Karn is broken as hell).
Sideboard Witness/Command package is fine, I like having this + some Karns in the SB as well.

In the MD I would suggest playing 19 lands, 4 Abundant Growths, 3 Oaths of Nissa and 3 Birds of Paradise. In my testing, especially after SB, Growth is much better than Oath. Putting Growth on fetchland not only prevents you from loosing life, but as well you can later recover it with E-Witness. Oath of Nissa on the other hand is crazy good, however after sideboard you are loosing quite a lots of creatures/lands/planeswalkers, so it CAN miss. (It did it too me twice). In addition, 2 Oaths is not crazy good with curio (can bounce, however you cant chain them) which might be important.

I would call this version planeswalker-tokens version, and Command/Karn planeswalker-distruption version. I need to test this version asap for GP Bologna, however I still feel correct way is to ... play both between MD/SB. However ... In your version I would play 1 Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite as well as some worships. Both cards are perfect for this version and I really dont understand why you dont have them somewhere.

I would play more fetchlands as well. I know this is a 2 color deck, however fetchlands are really important with curio on board. You can protect your nykthos with it. You can use your nykthos additional time with it. Sometimes shuffling your deck is important (you fe. put hoof on bottom with your oath)

I dont really understand your SB. Kitchen finks? Oath of Chandra? Silklash Spider? Reclamation Sage? FULLMINATOR MAGE(how you want to cast this guy on turn 2?) What are these cards for and WHY those? Seal of primordium > Sage. Disciple of Nissa > Kitchen finks. Bonfire > Oath of Chandra. Crumble to dust/Blood moon (yes, I would play this as it does not hurt us THAT much, especially after board) > fullminator mage. Dont want to bash you, however after playing so much with this deck (from the start of the previous thread) I still see some suboptimal cards, so please say for what matchups you have those cards.

3-0-1 (split with infect) another event.

    Beat Bant Coco/Kotr/Retreat 2-1
    Beat Naya Coco/Nacatl/Zoo 2-1
    Beat RG Tron 2-1

    Changes from previous build: -1 Bird(up to 3), +1 Hydra(3) in main, +1 Blood Moon(3), +1 Bonfire(4). +1 Elesh Norn(1), -1 Primal Command(0), -1 Eternal Witness(0), -1 Outpost Siege (1).

I need to buy Worships for Eldrazi (would play probably ~2). Elesh is good vs Affinity/Infect/Coco/Eldrazi. Moons - tron/affinity/infect/eldrazi. Bonfire - zoo/coco/eldrazi/affinity/infect. Slaughter games vs shoal/scapeshift/ad nauseum.

The Karn Liberated main switch has worked out thus far. I've only got about 30 games in thus far, but I actually ended up winning 2 games I would have lost with a Wave (as I was able to exile an Olivia Volderan in one and a Pyromancer's Asscension in the other) and have only lost one game where I would have won with a Wave (as they were able to kill me the following turn with a top deck Bolt and the three other creatures on board....Since my only real concern was losing games I would have otherwise won and/or slowing the deck...so far so good!

I did go up to 20 lands for the time being (as we go up the curve a little more in this version). I really like where it is at though. It focuses heavily on the things I think devotion decks should do:

    1. Cards should either ramp or draw cards (i.e. be a 2-for-1 or more). In this case, Arbor Elf, Birds, Utopia Sprawl, etc. ramp while Visionary, Courser, Witness, Abundant Growth, Oath, and the walkers are all at minimum 2-for-1's.
    2. More important that having as many symbols on the battlefield as possible is ensuring you actually have a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx in play to take advantage of them. Between Oath, Visionary, Courser, and Abundant Growth all digging for lands we often can find a Nykthos within the first few turns (especially when we can loop them with Curio).

The added interaction has actually been quite nice. It has already positively effected three game one's (vs. Jund, Infect, and Storm). I miss the "showing off" you get to do with Wave (where you string them together and play your entire deck Smile ) but as long as I continue to find that the deck wins at an equal or greater rate without it than I'll just have to deal with the loss. Ha.

The current list I'm playing is:

Of course a card here or there may change (i.e. play 3-of one card instead of 2, etc.) but the deck feels right. I was able to get my Oaths online as well; so I can play it online soon! I've still got a lot of testing to make sure Karn should be in the place of the Waves; but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will work out. I'll update after my next 60 games or so and especially after another 100 games.

How do you feel about having both xenagos and karn in the same deck? As good as before or much worse?
This and how did you find lack of the primal commands in the main and only 1 eternal witness in main? To me those cards are most crucial ones in whole deck.

Went 13-0 in my 2 * 4-rounds ~20 players and 5-0 in my ~60 player tournaments with karn version of the deck. I would say most of my wins came from primal command grind, some of karn/witness grind, and only some of them from combo.

CurdBros, before testing with Oath (as I need to do so a lot couse will travel to GP Bologna with GreenDevo) I need a pre-oath deck for this weekend. Prefer Karn planeswalker version. What was the most successful version?

As for Oath of Nissa - imo we dont need Eidolon of Blossoms for it to be good, however it might spawn totally new archetype with Herald of the Pantheon, Courser, Eidolon and probably some white enchantments such as starfield of nyx or angel enchantments.

My last remark for now is a repeat I believe. Temur Sabretooth + Eternal Witness + 2x Garruk = infi mana and acces to all stuff in the GY. It might seem like a cornercase but it has worked for me and won the game on the spot multiple times, in normal games and during a 'Wave-turn'.

I dont think you can bounce 2 garruks. Oh do you mean play garruk, sacrifice the other one, get mana through nykthos, recast eternal witness, get garruk back, and each loop generates additional mana? To do so you would need utopia sprawl, nykthos, garruk, witness, sabretooth and 3 more devotion right? I did not think about this "combo", if you play primal command (and you should probably play some if you play witness) it is excelent tutor target. Nice job finding this out!

    Small things I noticed:

    1) Oath of Nissa is crazy good. It is basicly a slightly better serum vision for us imo. It diggs much better than abundant growth, however it is a legendary enchantment, so remember we cant have more that 1 at the same time. Wouldnt 3/3 split be much better? Remember you cant bounce 2 Oaths with curio.
    2) What it enables is possibility of playing kiora without having more than 1 blue source, which is kinda awsome. Ral Zarek also fits a plan of distruptive planeswalker package, as is turn 2-3 ralzarek kill your elf/goyf/confidant really awsome.
    3) Purphoros would be really nice addition, as it is a way to win a game without going a) throu combat step b) not let and opponent untap.
    4) Nylea on the other hand is really bad imo, so I dont know why would you like to play her.
    5) So is RG Liege. Why do you even consider it? This card is just ... bad. You want to put too many different eggs in one basket. This is not an agro deck...
    6) IMO hydra is much better, as it is "uncounterable" - we are playing it for turoring, not for a body most of the time.
