We are somewhat slower than we used to be, but there are a lot of reasons for that, but the two big ones are that Curse is blocked by a lot of professional firewalls...
What do you mean with this ?
What is a pro firewall ?
I mean the kind that businesses and government agencies install to filter what employees can access to prevent employees from wasting company time. The old website got through these, and we found that quite a few people (including some staff) couldn't access the site at work anymore when we moved to Curse since it's more well known.
Even though I dont post much, I can 105% vouch for this, I'm one of those people that can no longer access this forum while at work. I'm too busy when I get home to be reading about MTG and so, I've kind of quit MTG all together. Only came here today because I was wondering about Eternal Masters. Maybe i'll be back in a month when theres more about it.
Mirran Crusader + Sword of Fire and Ice can net you 12dmg a swing + draw 2 cards + protection from 4 colors (evasion/protection).
It does sick things with Sword of XY also.
Squadron Hawk + Sword of XY has evasion (flying), self replacement, library shuffle, protection from XY, effect of XY, and splash-able.
Can we vote people off the mtgsalvation.com island?? I'm serious. Anyone?
Even if I draw just 1 more card than you per turn. After 3 turns I would have drawn 6 cards from my deck and you would have only drawn 3.
If we were both aggro.. I would have 3 more threats than you.
if we were both control.. I would have 3 more threats/answers/counters more than you.
If we were both combo.. I would have 3 more chances at hitting my combo piece than you.
Honestly though... it's not time yet to have the "birds and bees" talk. Maybe in a few years.
First real decks (I built 2 at the same time, pretty ambitious for a poor highschool kid) was:
1) R/G Beatz - kird apes/erhnams/llanowarelves/fireball/lightning bolts etc. which I am still love playing today... in it's "contemporary" form (same idea, different cards).
2) Mono Black Control - Hyppies, Knights, Sinkholes, Hymns, Stripmines, Icys etc. I LOVE this deck! It eventually morphed into Necro for a while and most of the cards still lives today as my POX deck!
I think your best kill route is going to be Sanguine Blood + Blood Tribute (or Tendrils). So you're going to need to protect that combo as best you can. Duress and Hymn to Tourach will help you alot by getting rid of any counterspell/control they might have.
Sanguine Blood + Blood Tribute is also a slow as hell combo and is super weak to aggro, so your gonna need to be able to deal with that somehow. Something like Toxic Deludge or even Black Sun's Zenith can make aggro hurt.
The vampires you want will need to be of the controlling type... Gatekeeper is perfect for that role, it kills a creature and can block or attack later. Bloodline Keeper is better than nocturnus (in this deck) because he gives you vamps to sac as a Blood Tribute and can clog up the board and give you time to do your combo.
My list would look like this (keeping in mind of the cards you have already and the casual nature of your meta - This is all theory of course lol)
I use GB wastelands as proxies in all my legacy decks, however, I do actually own a legit set, just not enough for all my legacy decks.
In tournaments, I switch out for the legit playset... if we are playing anything non tournament and someone has an issue with my GB wastelands, i just dont play them. Simple as that.
Think of the competitive magic (it would seem the OP's FNM playgroup is fairly competitive) like a game of survival. If you want to live, why would you bring a knife (home brew) to a gun fight (netdeck)?
Your knife (home brew) might be all original and molded from dirt and held together with your sweat, but thats probably why it sucks and cant beat a finely tuned m14 carbine (netdeck).
Your problem is not netdecking or people who netdeck... let me rephrase it... You ARE the PROBLEM (in all respect).
You need to go and find a different playgroup or maybe a less developed FNM group. Or maybe a casual group that doesnt care about winning and just wants to do cute things.
All this might sound harsh, but its the reality of the game. The internet exisit... adapt how you play and who you play with or end up quitting again.

you might need to be able to deal with those types of casual decks

4 Gatekeeper of Malakir
4 Vampire Nighthawk
4 Bloodline Keeper
Spells
4 Dark Ritual
4 Duress/Thoughtseize/IOK (whatever you got)
4 Hymn to Tourach

Any other time, its casual..
Deck don't matter. However, keeping your opponent's power level in mind matters alot.
